Check out Pilkington classic glass program if you end up needing a
windshield. They sold me a Sigla glass for my w108 at a reasonable price
recently... About $300+shipping.

Jaime,

Is that program special, different from what an aftermarket installer would
get?

A couple years ago a Pilkington windshield was installed in my '95 sedan,
and a month ago a rock strike cracked it. Seems to me that replacement
windshields just aren't as strong as the originals, or maybe the
installation was poorly done. I watched the guy install it, seemed like a
very professional job, but I'm no expert.

Re: [MBZ] 123 windshield gaskets

2014-10-03 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
I just got the windshield in my Suburban replaced yesterday at
Safelite. My wife caught some rocks from a dump truck on I-95 a coupla
months ago, which cracked the glass in front of the driver. The crack
that started in Houston on the pass side about 10 years ago never got
much bigger and I paid no attention to it. Interesting in that it does
not get as hot here as there, which I think caused that crack to grow
slowly.

I have no idea if this glass is any better or worse but I think it has a
lifetime warranty with it, and there is no insurance deductible.

I cracked the windshield in a new S class yesterday. A small stone hit it
just right, I didn't even hear much of a bang.

Oops.

In related news my son bounced his stainless steel water bottle off the
inside window of a C class this evening. Luckily, nothing broke. Only
plastic cups in the car for now on.

you might be stuck as this might be the only road to quality. just make
sure you aren't getting a chinese one from the dealer or a counterfeit one
from someone online

i personally approve of penoff's method of build a relationship with a
local brick and mortar dealer and get them to sell you at a discount as
there are quite a lot of jokers on parts.com
