But, it could be nice car if the mileage is correct. I have never seen a 93. I guess this is the 2.5. I assume a 93 has a 2.5, but I have never seen one. Did the 94-95 have the 3.0 six cylinder? The only that bothers me is the price of diesel. He's my calculus on that. I drive less than 12,000 miles a year. In fact, it took me 4 months to get to 3,000 miles for my last oil change. For the sake of the calculations, I will assume 12,000 miles per year. So, lets say I buy a gasser and average about 19 mpg. Or, I buy a diesel and average 25 mpg. The gasoline would cost $3.05/gallon x 632 gallons = $1924 or for diesel $4/gallon x 480 gallons = $1920. So, is it worth it to drive the diesel over the gas car. It might be only becuase if I drive for work, I get reimbursed and a 124 diesel gets great highway mileage. But, in general it looks like a wash. Donald H. It might be only becuase if I drive for work, I get reimbursed and a 124 diesel gets great highway mileage. But, in general it looks like a wash. My thinking, unsupported by any hard evidence, is based on the fact that diesel passenger cars in the USA are a niche market. People who buy a new Mercedes diesel are different from people who buy a new Mercedes gasser. The latter will in general be buying a status symbol, and may not care much about the maintenance schedule as long as it starts and runs and looks good. The diesel owner made a deliberate decision to buy something out of the mainstream, and is probably more likely to be interested in the car as a machine and take care of it, not abuse it, follow the maintenance schedule, etc. Thus the used diesel for sale by the original owner will have less deferred maintenance and unfixed problems than the gasser. Now, if you're buying it as the third or fourth owner, or from a hippie who refuels at the grease barrel behind Burger King, all bets are off. How's the comfort level and overall satisfaction of owning and driving a W124 Diesel compared to the Expedition? That would make all the difference to me. Another thought is that the maintenance on the Mercedes may be a bit more simply since it's older. Except you will get 32-33mpg in a 2.5 turbo, at least thats what I get on mine, that Im probably fixing to sell in order to buy another interesting car.
