It’s Facebook. Common sense goes out the window the minute you step in that 
place.

I had a mild dust-up with a guy on the W124 group yesterday. He was complaining 
about how a fuel pressure regulator for his 300E was $300, which he simply 
wasn’t going to pay because the fuel pressure regulators for his similar 
vintage BMWs are only $100. What an outrage!!

How can you argue with logic like that?

I tried to explain how even parts that are functionally similar can have wildly 
different prices due to many reasons. I also asked him why he was replacing it 
because it was clear he wasn’t diagnosing, but throwing parts at the problem. 
Someone had already asked him this, but he blew them off with some goofy idea 
that, “If it’s 30 years old it doesn’t hurt to replace it anyway.”

Yet he was bitching about having to pay $300 for a part he probably didn’t even 
need and wouldn’t fix his complaint (rough idle.)

I simply don’t get it. Where do these people come from, and what’s in the water 
they’re drinking?

Absolutely.

Either that or he's so caught up in his life he simply doesn't have time to 
deal with it. I can recall those times with two small children in the house and

split the difference - $6500.

I politely told him "No thank you" and wished him good luck with the sale (he's 
been trying to sell this sat for over a year.)

I doubt he will, but if he comes back to me the price will drop to $4000.

Seems like he did when pushed for details, and I don't think it had anything to 
do with the engine, he was down on the 2003-2005 E class and not too excited 
about the 2006, but I don't remember why. I want to say it was electrical, or 
maybe something with the transmissions.

You are aware that the SBC brakes fitted to the W211 have an extended 
warranty due to all the troubles. Not one of MB's best efforts.

Also, don't buy a W211 older than a 2006. If you can swing it, an '07 
Bluetec is a great car without any built-in design defects.
