Customers just want to know what is the problem and when the parts 
can be expected.  That gives them a chance to evaluate options and 
plan accordingly.


Going silent is bad for customer relations.
updates are good.


I ordered stuff from brand x.  I got an email saying it was shipped 
the same day  +1 point.  Yesterday I checked the tracking number in 
the email and it said expected delivery is monday Not good for 
getting the car back  on the road this weekend. -1 point


Net score = 0

  Right now I am down 3 vehicles.  one is terminal.  one is major and 
hundreds of miles away.  no quick fix there.  the third was plugging 
my driveway and no parts in 2 weeks from either of 2 suppliers.  All 
I need is glow plugs and an intake manifold gasket!NOT happy 
campers.   The good news is that the junkyard has a reman Bosch for 
$45.  I had ordered a brush/VR from trent.  The guy at the junkyard 
has a 91 350SD in smoke silber.  Nice!  He used to be my neighbor.

This list represents a group which has evolved into an extended family. By
virtue of taking on the business, you become an integral and vital part of
that extended family.

Going silent for an extended period causes worry, first that you are OK,
second that the business is OK, third that the parts we depend on to keep
our MB running successfully are going to continue to be available from a
reliable source. In this case, you.

We came to depend on Rusty, but only because he was dependable. If there
is a suggestion I would make, it would be to stay available or at least
have someone in the company able to give solid information in response to

Believe it or not, the 190D 2.2  350SD/SDL both have the same belt.
008 997 34 92 (0089973492)

Not sure why the catalog is not set up correctly for your 350SDL.
Regardless, you can just order via the part #  add it to the cart along
with anything else you'd like.

I've double checked the EPC 008-997-34-92 is the correct #.

There was a recent discussion about Bando when somebody was looking for belts 
for their Japanese branded vehicle. Seems like it turned out to be an OEM for 
Toyota and/or Mazda.

It's not my call and I am not going to get involved one way or another, but I 
will say that I have re-established ties with Gary and he has mellowed 
significantly, in my opinion. I think my observations have some credence due to 
the fact that I was often on the receiving end of his ire.

On a related note, I spoke with Randy Steele this morning. He no longer sells 
commodity parts, as it's simply not profitable. However, he is very active in 
selling NOS parts and finding sources for hard to find parts, so I would 
encourage those who have cars with these sorts of needs to contact him, as he 
is extremely knowledgeable and very good at knowing what can and can't be found 
out there.

I recently (well 5 months ago) got a new belt for my 190D, my local CarQuest 
had one (in stock no less), I forget the brand (Continental?) but folks on here 
said it was a good choice.

I tried to find belts on that web site, they must be buried somewhere, 
not found under Engine.  I put in a belt number and got a hit, but 
nothing about type/manf, size etc., though the banner does say Genuine 
Original Equipment Replacement Parts so maybe they are OEM or actual 
Benz parts.  How would you buy stuff from them if they don't list it?  
Call I guess...


Pelican Parts seems to have easier navigation but their prices are 
higher than bpfl if the belts are the same,  bpfl $16.06 v. pp $19.75


I just sent Jabba a list for a quote, does he sell urochit? hmmm..

Gary has access to lots of stuff, but if the only part available is
something with a bad reputation (like Uro), he'll say so. Sadly, this is
the case for a lot of stuff, and its always changing.

For example, for a while, only MTC brand monovalves were available. He
called all over for me trying to find bosch, then we finally agreed to just
try MTC since nothing else was available. It was crap, as expected, but at
least I was warned in advanced. (As far as we can tell, Bosch no longer
makes these, and genuine MB is now another supplier and more expensive. I
later bought the MB one and its great)

flaming the list days $1000 of credit each for MB parts and keeps his 
lip to business, I could tolerate the un-banning.

sells commodity parts, as it's simply not profitable. However, he is very 
active in selling NOS parts and finding sources for hard to find parts, so 
I would encourage those who have cars with these sorts of needs to contact 
him, as he is extremely knowledgeable and very good at knowing what can 
and can't be found out there.

Extremely difficult people can be damaging to a group.  We had such a person 
on another group where I'm a moderator.  We waited too long to ban him, many 
valuable members left, and the group has never again attracted the kinds of 
interesting members it had before.

Bando is OE for several American car brands.  It's a Japanese company with a
plant in Kentucky.  Think I'll try Bando if they make water hose for MBs.

The valve I need controls the vacuum going to the transmission on my '83 
300D.  It sits on top of the injector pump and is connected to the 
accellerator linkage.
