I've been told that there are STEEP fines for selling used catcons
to the public. I found a 40k wreck at a salvage yard, wanted to
replace my 160k cat with the used one, and the yard owner refused
to sell it to me at any price. The original cat is still on my car
at 232k, because I was prevented from upgrading it to a low mile
cat which didn't rattle like it was falling apart inside.

No, it is a exquisite one of a kind and vintage too. Guess the idea is that
if you have a gullwing you want this to go with it.
How much would you sell something like this for? Also depends how much MB/DC
want for something like that, if they still sell them.
Anyway don't stress Kaleb just buy it:-)

Re: [MBZ] Cats (was the enterprise looses.....)

2005-12-30 Thread Tom Hargrave
This may provide some insight.

One of my database clients refurbishes catalytic converters for a living.
What they really do is receive scrap exhaust, cut out the cats and inspect /
test them. Those that pass the OEM test are painted, badge as refurbished
and sold.

Here's why they sort them.

Depending on what's inside, used catalytic converters can be worth a lot of
money. But before they can sell them, the contents (or converters) need to
be sorted because the metallurgy differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.
They were sorting and counting because the price per piece that they were
being paid varied by type.
