I had a friend was going to do a running thing Saturday but she had done one
2wk ago (ran 42mi after not running for 2yr, she’s an animal) and a bunch of
her posse came down with the woohoofloo so she had to back out. They all had
the vaxxes so it was curious. I don’t think any of those who turned out
positive had any significant symptoms, and she didn’t have any, so maybe the
vax mitigates the symptoms or infection in some.

LOL, Angie and I are both vaccinated although we haven't had any boosters. She
doesn't like to take anything when she gets sick, some people decide to punish
themselves I guess.

I had a blinding headache for 2 days, ibuprofen helped but didn't take it away.
She had the same but didn't take much of anything so she really suffered.

The worst thing for me was that I couldn't sleep. At night I'd double dose
NyQuil and a dose of melatonin just to get 8 hours but that wouldn't put me to
sleep in the day time. So for a week I was mostly just uncomfortable and
bored...

Re: [MBZ] COVID

2022-08-27 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I've heard that if you have sinus issues you might not show positive even if
you are.

One thing I noticed when I tested last (Abbot test) was that they said to swipe
the nostril 5 times and that it should take 15 seconds. That's 3 seconds per
swipe which is probably 6 times longer than I was doing. This time I set a
stopwatch and just swiped for 15 seconds, probably 20-30 swipes per nostril. I

Not for me, Angie had it in April. I tested negative at that time just as she
is testing negative now.

I think you're right though, Angie's cousin has had it 5 or 6 times. I suspect
what I've got is the omicron variant, highly transmissible, not so bad to get
through. Other than a sore throat and lost voice I feel no so bad today.
Interestingly I feel better after I eat.

I didn't drink any coffee yesterday, didn't feel like it would do me any good
when all I wanted to do was sleep. I had one cup of cold brew today and my
headache is nearly gone. I wonder if part of my headache was caffeine
withdrawal.

Re: [MBZ] COVID-19 Vaccines and study sizes

2021-03-13 Thread Tony Wirtel via Mercedes
Long time without a post!

Given info from US FDA on size of phase 3 clinical trials the Pfizer study
is a close second to J Phase 3 is the last step to collect data before
one could apply for clearance to use in the US:

Pfizer: 43.651 (Combined phase 2/3)
https://www.fda.gov/media/144416/download (Table

Moderna: 30,418
https://www.fda.gov/media/144434/download (Table 1)

J/Janssen: 44.325
https://www.fda.gov/media/146217/download (Table 5)

While the Pfizer study was a combined phase 2/3 study (w/FDA blessing),
phase 2 studies are relatively small- for example, ~2k people in the
Moderna Phase 2. If you have good data and are addressing an urgent need
you can ask FDA to combine a phase 2 and phase 3. If they like your data,
they're likely to give you the green light.

While not common, this approach has been used with previous disease states
and drugs.

I'll echo what was said before- if you can get a shot, take what you can
get. The differences in efficacy are minor compared to the risk of
covid...esp w/the new variants swimming around.

My Frontier has those notches, and I never realized that was their
purpose. I always thought it was so you could insert boards to keep
smaller loads from sliding around, sort of like load locks in a box
truck.

That's because it's narrow, not because it's short.

With the tailgate down sheet goods are just fine in a short bed. My first

I believe that version has a 6 ft long bed, instead of a full size truck 8
ft bed. I call it the "city boys truck".
Interior of cab has every known luxury, so that part is nicely equipped.
It's just challenged to haul a cord of wood, or a stack of 4x8 plywood.

Find me a 5 year old 4wd extended cab pickup truck with no rust and under
80,000 miles for under $25,000 and I'll give you a $500 finders fee.
Around here if it runs and drives the price is double what it was last year and
there aren't very many choices.
In 2014 when we were truck shopping I could get a brand new Ford F150 STX 4wd

to keep falling no one is driving much, they don’t have jobs to go to and I

look at the price of fax machines!

Our daughter who lives in the Bay Area has, count them, TWO Teslas a model
S and a 3. The S is leased and about to go back, but daughter owns the 3 so it
stays. Their third car is a Nice 2001 Lexus/ Rav 4 SUV or whatever It is
called. Daughter has driven the model 3 about 60k miles and has replaced some
tires and Tesla just warrantied the 12 volt reg car battery or deep cycle that
powers accessories or something

I think she is the norm, maybe a bit of early adopter.

In the last three years or so I have bought a Kia 2008 mini van for $200 (129k
miles) ... I fixed a few things and have driven it for 3 years About 20k miles
at the cost of fuel and an idler pulley, a few coil packs and a $50 used
alternator. Perfect car

I bought a 2008 Kia accent with 200k like new, clean stick for $350... it took
8 months to sell for $2500

And I have the 2003 sprinter with lift gate that only cost $2800 with free
Pennsylvania

I would say I have never seen cars cheaper in terms of real cost, allowing for
inflation etc

I think these ICE Mercedes cars will be $500 before you know it because no one
will want them

As for Covid, at age 66 Georgia offered me a vaccine which I took, a couple of

Re: [MBZ] Covid 19 Mystery

2020-07-24 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A 60-year-old man who died from a gun shot wound
to the head.

A 90-year-old man who fell and died from complications of a hip fracture.

A 77-year-old woman who died of Parkinson's disease.

These are some of the deaths in Palm Beach County recently, and
incorrectly, attributed to COVID-19 in medical examiner records.

The CBS12 News I-Team uncovered several examples in Medical Examiner
reports of people counted as a COVID death who did not die of COVID.

Cuomo took a trip to FL to donate no longer needed ventilators and PPE from
NYC. New Yorkers went through hell but somehow smashed the curve without
experiencing a resurgence (yet).

Cuomo is probably scared to death of NY vacationers bringing back the virus
from their FL vacations.

There will be those who don’t believe or want to accept the
numbers/statistics/data no matter who provides it, which is a problem in and of
itself.

How can you quantify “recovered”? Off a ventilator? Discharged from the
hospital? What about those with milder cases or symptoms? How do you determine
they are recovered? Add to this the related issues some of these patients will
have for months if not years that will affect their health. If I get off a
ventilator and get discharged but suffer from some sort of related breathing
issues from the disease, have I recovered?

My point is not to challenge, but to show that much of this isn’t quantifiable
in a clear and direct manner, so it’s nearly impossible to do so. This is
unknown territory for everyone.

Kaleb we test everyone who comes into the hospital, so they dont give covid
to hospital staff or other patients. The trauma patients often go to the OR
and get intubated for instance, which generates a lot of aerosols that are
infectious. Its a big risk to hospital employees.

Sometimes people have more than one thing. In the overall scheme of things,
however, the cases you cite are rare. We usually know what kills people.
Covid pneumonia is very different from other pneumonias and it is seen on
CT.

What makes this all confusing and more scary is they continue to report the
number of new cases daily but no the number that recovered that day. In most
cases it just about equals out from what I can tell thru the fog.

You would need hundreds of motorcycle fatalities of riders infected with
COVID 19 in order to have any significant impact on an accurate COV 19 body
count.

Can we believe the numbers? For example the 300 Florida testing stations

Or the young man who died in a motorcycle accident (and apparently not sick)
who was counted as a COVID death because his corpse tested positive? Both

Very few transmission events from infected people after two weeks following
symptom onset. Very ill people may be able to shed live virus longer.

The repeat tests being positive do not mean the sailors were necessarily
reinfected, or infectious. It is a PCR. Cases like this have been described
in China also, but no documented transmission has occurred from these
individuals to others and they may simply still be shedding viral RNA
without being contagious.

Pterostilbene (100 mg daily) and Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) (300mg daily).
Learned about it a about six months ago. Started taking it without any
expectations, in fact, I fully expected it to be a lot of hype and do nothing.

I’ve had leg/muscle/joint pain in my left leg/knee for about a year. I can’t
easily raise it, like you would to tie a shoe while sitting down and crossing
your legs. Doctor poo-poos the condition and says I just need to spend more
time stretching. I challenged him, asking why I didn’t have to do the same for
my right leg. No answer.

Anyway, I heard about this stuff last year and thought I would give it a try.
Everything I read said that it would take a good 3-4 months before there were
any noticeable effects. Within about 45 days my left leg/knee is now free of
pain and I have almost 100% mobility.

Maybe it’s a placebo, but I could definitely tell things were gradually getting
better as I took it. It costs me about $60/month for everything, but for the
results I’m getting I’m quite pleased with it.

I get plenty of D naturally, but I’ve taken 1000 IU of C daily for years. Not
sure if it makes a difference, but Linus Pauling seemed to think it did.

I take some anti-aging supplements, too. Wicked stuff that has really done well.

Consuming 400–800 IU (10–20 mcg) daily of Vitamin D certainly wouldn't hurt
anyone and would very likely be good for them, but the claim that vitamin D
supplements can prevent respiratory infections is still being researched; with

If you're truly vitamin-deficient it's a good idea to correct that. But
don't think that loading up on vitamin C or D is really going to do much
for you, beyond having "enough."

Vitamin D deficiency is a thing though, since so many people have been
scared into thinking that if they're not wearing at least SPF 50
sunscreen at all times that they are going to die of skin cancer.
