That'd be a post-'64 though I imagine, serial number in the several million
range? This was a pre-1964 Winchester Model 94, serial number just over 1
million, original blueing still 75% intact. A fairly rare rifle at best.

Speaking of which, my Dad is a serious gun collector so I bounced this off him.
He says the really early Stevens lever guns can be worth some fairly good

It'd be a good idea to take them to a good shop to get a value before doing

Hey Mitch -
Thanks for those gun seller sites - I registered with Gunbroker after
finding some Taurus PT111 magazines I had been looking for -

And to top it off their FFL holders close to me have firing ranges I will be
able to use. Only for pistol so I have to wait to fire my rifles but at
least they're close enough to keep my pistol skills up.

Happy Thanksgiving -

2007-11-21 Thread Curt Raymond

You can't sell guns on eBay...
Selling guns is alot about finding the right person at the right time.
I don't think I've ever seen a lever action Stevens, I also don't think I've
seen a Stevens deer rifle. They made ALOT of cheap .22s and some shotguns. I
might be wrong though.

If it were lets say an average Marlin or post-64 Winchester you'd be looking at
a $400-$500 gun assuming good condition.
Pre-'64 adds value but not a tremendous amount on an off brand like Stevens.

For comparison Dad got a pre-'64 Winchester m94 (really nice, probably worth
$800 on its own) a double barrel shotgun, a .357 pistol and a couple pellet
guns from a kid he works with after the kid's Dad died. Paid something like
$700 for the lot.
A dealer had offered the kid(okay he's probably in his 30s) $500...

Except the 10/22 generally ships with the worlds uglyest stock

Dad's got one of those training rifles too, his is Polish I think. We've got it
stashed under a bed in the camp. Knocks the squirrels and groundhogs around
pretty good even out to 100 yards.

the ruger .22 is far too fancy to be a 123 diesel. the 240D is more
 along
the lines of my bolt action romanian training rifle .22, as good a gun
 as
you will ever find for under 50 bucks.

Re: [MBZ] Diesel bulletproofness & OT: Gun surprise

2007-11-20 Thread Loren Faeth
I think the Ruger 10-22 is the 123 Diesel of the 22 rifle options. I
am guessing the .44 variety that started the gun surprise thread is
similar, perhaps a 280E twin cam 123 analog?
