Not unusual manner in which to deal with this.

Actually, other than time, restoring a steering wheel isn’t that difficult.  
POR makes some really good epoxy for the job, as do others.  It’s something I’m 
sure I’ll have to do when I find a suitable car, as they all suffer from it to 
some extent, some worse than others.

This thing is a polished turd for the most part.  At least it appears to be in 
context.  It came up on my national CL search a couple days ago.

OK, here's what I would do.  Buy for $1200 and drive it daily, fixing it
gradually for a couple years before sending it for a repaint and total

dashes.  I’m sure it’s not cheap.

That came up in my searches yesterday.  I was pretty turned off by the seat 
covers and the fact that it doesn’t run.

Otherwise it’s possible, but the non-operational aspect is a real killer for 
me.  The statement, "Upon receiving the car I took it to a very well known 
mechanic in Winchester, Kentucky who specializes in vintage Mercedes. The car 
wants to run, but needs a fuel pump in order to do so” concerns me as well.  If 
you took it to a mechanic to get it running and chose not to, why?

Last I heard they were bringing good money, but not enough to pay for 
restoration.   New parts specific to the E are probably priced out 
o sight.
