120 db hardly can compete with the heavy base "music" of the totally brain
dead and likely deaf drivers of the true traffic sinners.

Yep... train horns were ignored well.. it most often got a "hand
signal" which I believe in sign language translates to their IQ...

Kenwood makes a good single DIN unit with flip screen that has all manner of
accouterment. The SD has a 560DV (I think) that can do GPS, hooks to a back up
camera, iPhone interface, Sat radio, DVD player as well as AM/FM. Pretty sure
the newer units have a bunch of that built in.

Good suggestion for more noise Perhaps a submarine dive siren.
Tried the train horn, it gets ignored...

Cop lights and siren... with a cannon on the roof, like the Prius seems

2018-11-18 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
What I really want to install on ALL my vehicles is a siren with cop
lights... make that TWO sirens, so the noise can get through to the brain
dead idiots driving with their radio on "STUN" volume, while texting and
driving stupid.

For years, I've been an advocate of a graduated driving license, strictly
enforced...
1. First level: Far right lane only, no speeds above 45 MPH. Transit to
school, work place, grocery, only.
2. Second level:Next lane only, no speed above 70, unlimited travel.
3. Third level: Far left lane, No speed limit, No restrictions,

All levels require strict physical skill testing and mental knowledge
testing for traffic law.
Level 2 would require physical health exam every 6 months which tests for
visual ability, physical response times and ability to safely operate the
vehicle.
Level 3 would require a physical exam every 90 days. and be required to
demonstrate respones times capable of operation of an "unlimited vehicle".

All classes would require drug and alcohol testing and clean certification
to maintain driving license.

Re: [MBZ] Five Cars in a Three-Car Garage

2018-11-18 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Same here. Just to make a point.

The disassociated Mom drivers these days make me crazy.

I was behind one yesterday on a two lane 45 mph road. She had a phone in her
right hand and was using it while attempting to drive and deal with a load of
kids. She never got above 35 mph in a two mile stretch, and was crossing over
the yellow and white lines constantly.

I want to beat people like that on and about the head and face with their phone
in my closed fist.

Grrr.

I think it's in the lack of driver training. A month or so ago, I backed
into a parking spot at my daughter's school, and had a few minutes to wait
for her to come out. Open spot next to me, lady in a very new Jeep tried
to back in next to me, with back-up camera. On first attempt she hit my
front bumper with her bumper. My bumper (White Whale) is grey, very aged,
recently missing a big chunk from the bottom edge, generally looks like
hell. Her bumper: pristine, painted white. Well, at least it was pristine
before she tried backing in. She was yapping on the phone while she was
trying to back in. After she finally was settled in her spot, still
yapping away, I got out of my car and walked to the front, took a look at
my bumper and the new white mark, looked at her still yapping away, she
can't meet my eyes. I just shook my head and walked away. She was still
there when I returned, I took the time to examine the rear bumper of her
car, nice blemish there on the corner. If I'd wanted to deal with the
hassle, I probably could have made her insurance pay for a bumper
re-paint.

I'm planning to upgrade the radio in SWMBO's car, which is double-DIN, to a
radio with a built-in screen that will connect to a back-up camera. I've
also thought about getting one for The White Whale. Maybe after I caulk
all the seams in the roof and stop the rain from getting in.

Some of us old farts can't turn our necks as far as we used to, making the
backup camera really great! It's also very nice for lining up to a trailer.
I installed an aftermarket cheap one in the F150 (bought very few options
with it) and am very glad I did. I used to have to get out and lower the
tailgate to see where I was backing when unloading it - no more.

If the garage isn't full of non-car stuff, 3 cars in a 2 car garage or 5 in a 3
car can be done without hoists. The extra cars go perpendicular in front of the
daily drivers.
Unfortunately, my '2 car garage' is only 20x22 and it's got a lot of non-car
stuff in it, making it a one car garage.

Nice, I need to do that in my 2-car garage. I think I'd only be able to
fit convertibles (top down) in the upper storage, due to a support beam
that goes across the ceiling of the garage.

A lot of issues with that remodel.

Very few existing homes have the kind of space available in the garage ceiling
area. I’ve only owned one home with a garage ceiling that would have
accommodated such an arrangement, and it was an outlier as a very expensive
custom home.

Why did this make me think of the retirees with the screen doors on the garages
where they sit inside all day and watch the neighborhood go by?
