I have been trying to get SWMBA to pop some on my roof. She does not see the value. I like the idea of off grid for small power. My roof is perfect with a full south/southwest swath. Neighbor up the street built himself an eco house with 8" foam insulation, solar water and PV, cisterns for rain water, pervious asphalt paving, PV attic fan. Stupid thing is, he kept tall trees on the lot that shade his roof until well past 1300, so his generating capability is limited. Next door has big trees too, and they shade from 1600 on. clay On Mar 21, 2016, at 8:01 AM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes wrote: > Good incentives for wind and solar manufacturers and installers, though. > > BTW - anyone install solar PV (photovoltaic) panels on their roof top yet? > . > > On Mon, Mar 21, 2016 at 9:58 AM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > >> Oregon is a beautiful place, but... >>> It's pretty amazing how folks vote for their own detriment, time, and >>> time again >>> >> >> Oregon is a strange place. Oregon is full of idiots. Apology to any residents on the list. They used to have a nuke plant, but decided to take it off line and destroy it. Then they sold their generating ability to Buffet, so he and Berkshire could make tons of cash. Warren also purchased the trains that haul coal to the ports in WA to be sold to the orientals. Washington closed down their coal fired plant and only permit NG plants and are trying to get off nukes. We are tossing up lots of wind farms, while taking out generating dams. City of Seattle is on a mandate to purchase electric cars instead of LP/NG or dino fuels. This is going to be a mess. No way are the solar panels going to pump enough juice to keep us warm in the winters. The new law will wipe out coal-generated energy supplied to the state in phases through 2030 and requires utilities to provide half of customers’ power with renewable sources by 2040. Wind driven = homeowners Rising = flood Homeowner’s would not cover rising water, i.e., storm surge, pool overflow, etc. We’re roughly 40 feet above sea level, but within about 1/3 of a mile of a major stream, the Alafia River. For a storm surge to make it to 40 feet at this point on the Alafia, which has a flood plain width of about a mile at this point, the better part of the west coast of Florida would have to be under water. There is a “sea wall” at the back of our property that goes down to a level of about 25 feet, and at one time some years back when we had several hurricanes move through the area (2003?) there was water lapping at the base of the sea wall. The sheer volume of water it would take to fill the river basin to the point where our house would be threatened is well beyond anything that could be caused by a hurricane or associated storm surge. Re: [MBZ] Italian tune up with a turbo
Plenty of places in Florida would hit that, but they wouldn’t be terribly close to the beach, maybe 45 minutes to an hour. Proximity to the Gulf is a double edged sword. It’s more expensive and you’re more likely to be in a flood zone, which will drive your insurance rates sky high. I’m 45 minutes to a hour from some really nice beaches, like Anna Maria Island. My flood insurance is $400/year and is not mandatory. I buy it because it’s the only thing that would prevent my house from being totaled in a hurricane. Rising water versus wind-driven water is the difference. Cost of living here is decent and there are no income taxes. Sales tax is about 6-7% depending on where you live. The Gulf coast is far better than the Atlantic coast for a lot of reasons. If you want details or have questions, drop me a PM. Re: [MBZ] Italian tune up with a turbo
No difference with a turbo, you simply need a bigger load for the increased power. Cool down: give the engine at last a few minutes of either slow driving or idling to cool off after the event, to avoid coking the lubricating oil in the turbo. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On March 18, 2016 11:36:09 PM EDT, Bob Rentfro via Mercedeswrote: >This om606 is my first Turbo.
