We had low expectations, but after a very bad first night in the hospital, our first night at home was a breeze. We were able to get in 8.5 hours of sleeping time, interrupted every 2-3 hours for a feeding. I'm not sure how long this will last, but hes not much of a cryer and seems easily satisfied. Today, so far, has been more of the same. Feed, look around and play a bit, go back to sleep for a while. No real crying unless hes getting a full load cleaned up by his mother or me... hes not very fond of that. It was weak, couldn't tighten it to my satisfaction, and all around not that useful. If you have a carrier then take the base, put your knee into it, and tighten the belt - you'll get it such that it won't move without the car, and the strength of the belt is much more than the little LATCH strings on the carseat offer. I did get such that I had the middle belt to an appropriate length in the Volvo, and just put a lot of force into the seat - but it is a lot easier with a base, easier enough that I plan to buy one again this time around. Anyway, the benefit of LATCH is that it is easier to move around, but moreso that it is dummy-proof; if you are sufficiently able to figure out what the dummy might be doing wrong, and avoid it, then it's not necessarily incrementally useful. :) long wheel base W126, confirming that nobody needs a minivan, just a big old Mercedes.
