Mother and son are feeling good and doing well.

In Mercedes related content: his baby seat just fits in the middle rear
seat of the W124 wagon. I think I'm going to install some rings to where
the seat belts attach to use the latch system. I don't really like how
the lap belt holds the seat in. However, the seat fits wonderfully in a
long wheel base W126, confirming that nobody needs a minivan, just a big old
Mercedes.

Now I need to somehow find the time and energy to replace the AC compressor
in the W126. I'm sure I can it done in the few weeks before I go back to
work!

Hope you are all sleeping well. Our daughter has been sleep-resistant since
born, finally at 4+ years she will sleep through the night. I guess
sleeping through the night really didn't happen consistently until she was

We had low expectations, but after a very bad first night in the hospital,
our first night at home was a breeze. We were able to get in 8.5 hours of
sleeping time, interrupted every 2-3 hours for a feeding. I'm not sure how
long this will last, but hes not much of a cryer and seems easily satisfied.

Today, so far, has been more of the same. Feed, look around and play a bit,
go back to sleep for a while. No real crying unless hes getting a full load
cleaned up by his mother or me... hes not very fond of that.

Satisfy that little son as much as you can today - because you can
satisfy him. You certainly won't spoil him - he is unable to get fed
without you, nor tidy himself. Hey - its only a few days that you
will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonder of a little guy growing
up - enjoy it all now, because you won't be able to recall this time
later. He is yours to enjoy today - take the time to enjoy.

Marvellous! Enjoy for all it is worth. They grow up quickly. My boys are
now 26 and 22. I still remember them as happy, chubby babies and
toddlers but those images are fading. They are both tall and slim -
taller than me.

Don't let other things get in the way of life at home. I spent several
years as a leader in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with both of them. We had
good times doing that, among other things. We went canoeing and camping etc.

They now have lives of their own and don't always have enough time for
me (in my opinion) but I think my wife and I did a fine job raising
them. They are both hard working and productive young fellows.

I -hated- the LATCH in our Fords. It was weak, couldn't tighten it to
my satisfaction, and all around not that useful. If you have a
carrier then take the base, put your knee into it, and tighten the
belt - you'll get it such that it won't move without the car, and the
strength of the belt is much more than the little LATCH strings on the
carseat offer.

I did get such that I had the middle belt to an appropriate length in
the Volvo, and just put a lot of force into the seat - but it is a lot
easier with a base, easier enough that I plan to buy one again this
time around.

Anyway, the benefit of LATCH is that it is easier to move around, but
moreso that it is dummy-proof; if you are sufficiently able to figure
out what the dummy might be doing wrong, and avoid it, then it's not
necessarily incrementally useful. :)
