Bay Ridge is far from downtown. There are subways everywhere. It would be insane to rent a car unless your work day involves driving around the Bay Ridge area. How much time will you have? Take the Staten Island ferry - great trip. Or the circle Line around Manhattan. Visit lower Manhattan to see the 911 memorial and then take the ferry to Liberty Island. Plenty of great museums and Broadway theaters may be opening up. It's like any big city. Dirty, smelly, crime-ridden, scammers everywhere, expensive. I was there in the mid 1990s. Friend of mine showed me around and we went to a couple of cool bars but all in all I would never care to go back.
