I grew up in Central Illinois. I know. Illinois is a nice place to be fromfar from. But the Cheeseheads having the FIBs is just like the people in Maine having the people from Mass and NY, right (as I recall from a trip to Higgins Beach in 1988)? Re: [MBZ] OT: Milk and Stuff
FIB was a term in use by the '80's in the Wisconsin area that I grew up, and I think it existed after the first summer which combined car traffic from Illinois and Wisconsin road construction. A fellow from the Lincoln state asked me why all the trees in Illinois pointed toward Wisconsin. I took the bait, and the punch line was Because WI sucks. My reply: No, Illinois b***s. We had a great time giving each other hell after that. Now I'm a Yankee living in the south. Folk here are too polite to tell me to my face what they think of us Yankees, but there are a few bumper stickers I enjoy like If they call it 'Tourist Season', how come we can't shoot them? Re: [MBZ] OT: Milk and Stuff
Is the gov't. still subsidizing milk production? How about wool? They started protecting wool between the world wars IIRC, when they decided wool for military uniforms was a strategic material whose production had to be protected. Now, of course, there are synthetic products that do the same thing. As recently as the 90s people were paid to raise sheep. One of the big news anchors (Peter Jennings perhaps) owned land in NM I think where he (his people) raised sheep and was paid a hefty fee every year. IIRC it was over $150K per year. Happy New Year!! Besides which its gone up to what? Here regular cheap brand milk is around $2.50 a gallon, thats up maybe 100% since I started college 15 years ago when gas was $1/gal and gold was $300/oz. Basically what I said before milk and cheese haven't risen crazy (I don't pay much attention to bread) its just that you were conditioned to prices that were way too low to begin with. -Curt Date: Thu, 31 Dec 2009 07:44:13 -0600 From: Kaleb C.
