Re: [MBZ] OT: Murder by hogs

2019-12-26 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes
the feral hogs decimated bird life in Hawaii.  Most birds there nested
on the ground and the hogs wiped many species completely out.

I'd like to hunt them as well, but shooting from a chopper would be my
preference

Caution: Video contains flying, shooting and animal eradication of feral
hogs.
It is, however, on my personal bucket list.

I do. Understand that the area I live in was empty farm and grove land 20 years
ago. 10 miles from me (or possibly less) the area is still undeveloped for now,
and it pretty much empty scrub or swampland. The pressure on wildlife from
development around here is significant. It’s causing a lot of habitat loss and
as a result forces a lot of it into relatively compressed areas, such as the
lands along the river.

Just came in from reloading the smoker and heard “Hawky”, our red-shouldered
hawk that lives behind the house, raising Cain about something. He flies around
and regularly relieves us of our tree rats (squirrels).

Re: [MBZ] OT: Murder by hogs

2019-11-28 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Our community, along with the community across the street from us, backs up
onto a 60+ acre conservation area that was deeded to us when the developers
purchased the property. The Alafia River flows along the southern part of the
park, and there are environmental lands (ELAPP) owned by the County that
surround the river for the better part of it’s length through it’s watershed.
As a result of this there are a lot of wild animals that transit through the
area as it’s a corridor for them to move between the eastern part of the county
to Tampa Bay.

So no, these are truly wild animals. Along with the panthers, bobcats, coyotes,
deer, hawks, eagles, etc., etc. that live in the area. I’m going to miss
listening to all the wildlife when we move in a few weeks. I’ll still have
access to the park, as I’ll be in the other community, but we’ll be farther
away from the edge of the park.

2019-11-28 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
We have feral hogs in our private park immediately behind my house. They’re
nowhere near as large as the ones in Texas (that I’ve seen) but they’re
certainly present and they do a lot of damage. If I go walking back there I
always carry a sidearm in the event I stumble across a bunch of them.

2019-11-27 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Some years ago when I was living in Houston there was a story about a 10yo girl
who had gone out in the country hog hunting with her daddy and had no luck.
They came back to the truck and were loading up when this huge hog comes
walking across the road. The little girl grabs her rifle and shoots the thing.
It was HUGE. I don’t remember exactly but it weighed several hundred pounds and
was like 7ft long. Monstrous. Plenty to put on the smoke.

I'd like to go on a hog hunt, we don't have them here.My cousin lives in Texas

Actually I fired my .54 caliber muzzle loader today with 450grain "buffalo
bullets". With 80 grains of real black powder behind it I bet one of those
would roll a hog good and proper.
