Thanks. I think it's is the way the scrubbers on big diesel ship engines work; constant spray of fluid downward in a series of cones, and exhaust traveling up through the spray. Wet exhausts have a single nozzle injecting seawater from the heat exchanger into the exhaust gas at a mixing elbow. It then runs down into a rubber hose with the exhaust gas. Some outfits sell little mixing vanes to put into the hose to further agitate the water and mix it with the gas. I will probably try that. Putting more nozzles and an extra pump in to increase the amount of spray is a great idea, but a lot more work. I am not above welding something like that up, though. I'm pretty sure nothing like it is available for a smaller diesel. It would basically be a longer mixing elbow. In CA all trucks have particulate filters and urea injection retrofitted. They are remarkably clean. Across thousands of vehicles it definitely makes a difference. I have been looking for a way to put a dpf on the cummins 5.9 in the boat, but it is wet exhaust. Anybody know anything about reducing soot using a water scrubber for a small diesel?
