That's what I would have done; mainly because my mother would have had a hissy fit if I (a 13-14 yo teenager) even suggested cutting a hole in the house. Could have done it, though, since the neighbor gave my father the rest of the fire hose. BIL had seen buses running on producer gas from a large unit on the back end of German buses, so when he got back from the war he and I built a generator from what he remembered and hooked it up to a gasoline washing machine engine with a piece of the firehose. It ran for quite a while and then froze since we didn't have a filter for the gas. When we took the engine apart the cylinder was covered with tar and we couldn't get the piston out.
