Re: [MBZ] OT: Wifi rebroadcasting

How are the buildings powered? Would powerline Ethernet work?
(Possibly, if they share a transformer.) That's how I get it to the
back end of the house. Two Airports then provide one network
that way.

Got one of these maybe 8 years ago on a Newegg Shell Shocker deal.
Worked great when I put it in the current environment 3 years ago.
Then it died this year, I bought a 'refurb' off eBay to replace it and
it's been terribly unstable. I suppose I could just buy a third one, I
think #2 is defective.

2.4 GHz has a longer range fyi.

Greg

Building 1 puts out 2.4GHz at 1 Watt. Consider that end set in stone,
what I want to do now is rebroadcast it throughout building 2 instead of
only having service in the room where the USB hookup to the outdoor
antenna is located. I figured if I rebroadcast 5GHz in building two
there will be less interference between the two signals.

Forgot about cantennas for the host link to building one.
I wonder if you can just put a mini usb dongle (the thumbnail sized
ones) in the can instead of all the messing around with type N
connectors?

But it would be simpler to just stick a decent adapter in a window.

Now thinking of this instead.

A laptop in building two on the building one side can just barely sorta
function on the built in wifi adapter. It sees the hotspot and can log
in, but data transmission is erratic. Works reasonably well outdoors by
building two.
