Re: [MBZ] OT OK this just really p1$$e$ me off to no end
Local Frod dealer does this in their “$25 quicky oil change lane. When I used to have a couple of Focii in the stable I would take them there for oil changes, as it was cheaper than the local oil change place, and I knew the materials would be better quality. A couple of times they went through the hard core upsell thing until I told them I was a former NIASE certified mechanic that didn’t currently have a place to the do the work myself. After that I just got the, “Hey, looks like you’ve got a worn belt, want us to change it?” and we were good. And I had them do some minor work, as I didn’t have time or a place to do it then. I agree, however, it’s clear they prey on various types of people to get work into the shop. -D > On Jun 17, 2021, at 3:23 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes > wrote: > > That is how service writers make money. exactly. I talked her down off the ledge told her to just keep driving it for another 10yr/100kmi or whatever. The fluids could probably stand to be changed, we can do that in her garage if need be. She says the AC BLOWS ICE COLD so no issue there. --FT On 6/17/21 3:23 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes wrote: That is how service writers make money. Common dealer tactic, drum up a bunch of expensive repairs in the hopes that you'll decide to just trade the vehicle in on a new car. That is how service writers make money. They intimidate and they pick on people that they think don't know any better, especially women. I had my mother's 2008 Honda Civic with 22,000 kilometers on it, for a while a couple of years ago. It got recalled for the air bag inflators so I went to the dealer. They insisted on having the exact mileage so I read it out to him in the drive through bay. He informed me that it needed an alignment. I told him I did not really think so. He did his best to persuade me and when I declined he insisted I sign a waiver because it was dangerous not to do it and he did not want the dealership to be liable. I told him my son was a red seal licenced auto tech and I would discuss the matter with him. Then he gave up.
