Are you sure there's actually a bracket that goes there?  It's been a while
since I had a crossover connection at that juncture, but I seem to remember
those studs as being superfluous.   Anyway, I've been operating without one
for years, with no detrimental effect.

I do remember taking it off because I couldn't get the trap out of the way 
without removing the bracket.  Also, it wouldn't allow me to move anything if 
the bracket wasn't loose and removed from both studs.

So...you think the bracket isn't needed?

has never leaked.  I wouldn't sweat it, but YMMV.
