Problem with holes in the fenders is, if they are there, it's probably even worse on the underside. Mix that with a leaking exhaust, and rolled up windows.oh, me feeling kinda sleepy. lol With pedestrians, most of the damage is done, not from the impact of the car, but rather when thrown by the car, and what you happen to land on, or impact along the way to landing. An emerg ER doctor friend of mine also told me, 90% of all pedestrian accidents he had to deal with, happened at cross walks!! Here in Canada, where we have the largest number of j walkers in Quebec City, they also enjoy the least amount of pedestrian/vehicle injuries. Go figure, eh. Re: [MBZ] pics of new pickup
What with warmer temps, I spent most of the weekend washing and waxing. Doesn't look too bad now. Even fixed some inevitable (otherwide) rust with POR-15 today. The waxing was sort of fun -- ruined at least six old t-shirts, because as I would put the wax on, the oxidized blue would jump onto the rag. Used cleaning polish and it worked very well. I am puzzled by one thing, though. On the roof (which is still untouched in the cleanup process other than a bath) there are four screws, two on the very outside of the front of the cab and then another pair about a foot inboard. No evidence that anything was ever mounted up there so I am wondering if these are something done at the factory. Also a rubber plug for what was probably a place for an antenna, but again no evidence that an antenna (CB, FM or HAM) was ever installed. I tried to take some pics this evening but one couldn't tell from the pics that there was any extra hardware up there. On Sun, Feb 8, 2009 at 6:37 PM, Donald Snook dsn...@mtsqh.com wrote: WOW! Doesn't look too bad. I see it has the optional lower drain outlets in the extended cab part. Don't know as though I would keep the collar on the steering column. I assume that is to avoid someone breaking the column in an attempt to steal it, but it looks to me like it might not be friendly to body parts in the event of an accident. The part sticking down on the left side where it bolts together is a bit scary. I'm not a fan of the hood deflectors either. They may work but I just don't like the look of them - especially on a boxy front end like that Ford has. I had one on my old Suburban for a while but decided I liked the clean look better. A roll of paper towel and a spray bottle of window cleaner in the truck is better. OK, that was my second guess. However, I still don't like the look of the collar. See what there is in the junk yard and fix the column maybe? Or else find some other way to provide it with support. My recollection is that you said this is your first pickup truck. I think you will like having it around. I kept a 68 Chevy pickup around as a backup vehicle for many years. Handy when I needed dirt, gravel, lumber etc. Also served as something to drive while I worked on the daily drivers from time to time. Insurance was cheap and I often let it lapse over the winter months. Could always put it back on if the truck was needed. I still have the Chevy but it has had little use in several years now as I have the Supercrew as a daily driver and my younger son has the F150 shortbox too. I sent an old Ford wagon to the boneyard last year. Had a VERY low mileage V6 engine and trans. Not sure what was interchangeable, but I'm sure there were lots of bits and pieces that you could have used. I bought it as I was thinking about getting another dog, but the dog never came. Not bad at all for $229. 'Course, you've looked good at the floor, haven't you? Don't want ya to fall through. ;))) Oh, what year is it? I missed it, or forgot. By all means, put an MB star on the hood and a 123 or 124 trunk star on the tailgate. My two-wheel utility trailer has MB star on tailgate and 123 wheel covers. The cargo body is from 'bout a '40 to '42 Ford pickup; 'put new axle, wheels, etc., on it 8 or 10 years ago; 'pulls very nicely. Yea. I live where two-lane-wide combines going down the highway don't even raise an eyebrow. It is part of normal traffic. This pickup is pretty safe. For my intended use, it is overkill. If I get it to where it is a go-to-Claremore vehicle, I will definitely incorporate all of these suggestions. But current plan is an in town beater. the pickup I bought for $229 earlier this week. 302 V8, 72,000 miles, both gas tanks were full. The ultimate beater pickup. It's amazing how handy something like that can be. Not 4wd though, is it? Too bad. Nor diesel. Got microwave? Can fix the flow-through ventilation pretty easily that way. And that kind of rig is exactly what's best suited to this kind of repair. Yeah, I guess if you're a farmer driving big machines that have whirling blades up front all day, pointing out a few little holes must seem a bit girlie, eh? All the Socialists that foist these 'safety' inspections on us don't seem to be able to come up with huge lists of people who were harmed by rust holes in the non-structural sheet metal of vehicles. What's more, on a pickup truck like that that has a frame, no amount of sheet metal damage is actually all that unsafe anyway. I think it's just another revenue stream, masquerading behind a 'safety' label. Nope, it is a 302 V-8 gasser. Last summer, I hauled trash cans full of grass clippings and yard waste (mostly fallen branches) to the local dump in the trunk of my 240D. I even once took branches to the dump with them stuck thru the open sunroof of my Quantum. This beater is next summer's answer to my 240D's trunk. Surprisingly, not too many of the local folks driver 4x4 pickups. They throw a couple hundred pounds of sand into the bed (in tubes) and seem to go thru the snow just fine. Is that a no-hub coupling plumbing clamp? May be able to get one at a plumbing supply house without such protrusions on it and/or find a way to turn the slicer part of it upward, etc. Better, yet, of course, would be to find a perfect replacement part at a PP, wouldn't it?
