Re: [MBZ] the free? 240D

2006-03-11 Thread Jim Cathey

I think that changing sheet metal and the rad would be MUCH easier than
pulling the engine/tranny out of both cars and swapping them. It may
very
well have some hidden frame damage which would necessitate the
engine/tranny

swap. Either way, the stick would be much funner to drive.

Usually you let the condition of the rust and paint determine
which is the donor, and what gets donated. Engine swaps are easy
compared to much bodywork. Tranny type swaps are also doable,
so long as it's not a column shift vs floor!

He said the driver side of the 240 is toast from the fender and driver
door. That would make the integral side view needed instead of the
stalk side view the 220 has. He could use the old door and fender, but
the better body seems to be the 220 not the 240. My car, I would drop
the engine and trans into the 220.

Is it also a 115? Why not swap its engine into your 220D?

I got a little more info on the car. It's a pea green manny tranny
240D
with a little more crunch 'n munch than just the rad. It needs some
fixing/replacement done to the driver's side front fender, front door
and
the rear passenger's window. This is not so bad, but the kicker is
that
they mentioned a price of $50 for the car, keys and title. I told them
that
I would accept their ORIGINAL OFFER for me to have the car for nothing.
I'm
waiting to find out if they decide to go for it. It's not cool to
first say
it's free and then offer it for $50. Perhaps the MB Gods are thinking
it
over?

see a post from Jim Cathy replied to that I never saw in the first place.

KEVIN!!!

Wake up and toss the man $40 for his troubles. You will have a parts
mobile to provide glass and fender, as well as door (upgrade with
mirror). Or just take the 616 out and throw it into the 220 and be a
GOD yourself with a stick and some extra oomph. At the PnP the engine
alone is $145

Just my $0.02

I agree, if you want the car then cough up before someone else grabs it. I
know I'd regret it if I lost a deal like that.
