Re: Mersenne: hi everyone

The problem is that 90 digits in the exponent seems high for M(M(127)), the next term in the sequence. My understanding is, that in the absence of any number-theoretical reason to believe this sequence always prime (or otherwise to believe M(M(127)) prime), it's generally expected to be composite. I have been wanting to do that number theory conference in Monterey. Perhaps invite the number theorists to join us? Alternate suggestion: have a small gathering of the locals at the Tied House in Mountain View some weekday evening the week after Thanksgiving, and do still get together at the Monterey math schmooze? spike John R Pierce wrote: The Western Number Theory Conference http://home.earthlink.net/~bartgoddard/mainpage.html meets in Monterey (acutally Asilomar) then it would follow we should meet in the Monterey area. Santa Cruz is a 45 minute drive from Monterey, silicon valley 90 minutes or so. I'd be glad to recommend a restaraunt for this, I've lived in the area since 1977.. One of my favorite places down there is a superb Chinese restaraunt in Carmel, but this would only be suitable for 8-12 people max. There are lots of other good places down there, or if folks wanted to drive a *few* miles, we could meet in Moss Landing at Phil's Fish Market for the best chowder and choppino on the west coast (and all kinda other fresh local seafoods as well as some pasta dishs for those who won't eat fish). Phil's is quite large, and if we have a headcount, reserving the back area on a tuesday shouldn't be too tough. I think this would work for 20-30 folks there. _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.ndatech.com/mersenne/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.ndatech.com/mersenne/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers

I am not interested in parties, ratings for highest contributions, number assignments, or information on microprocesor speeds. I am writing a machine language program to find the next 'greater than 10,000,000 digits' mersenne prime. Anyone have any ideas for a algorithm, or approach that has not been discussed lately?
