We should also get this cherry-picked into the 1.19 branch. Otherwise it might
happen that the new Mesa ships in spring distribution releases with an old 1.19
X-Server, e.g., Ubuntu 18.04-LTS.

This fixes blending issues seen with kwin and gnome-shell when
32bit visual has sRGB capability set.

Based on the screenshots it looks like that is a separate issue. This bug
causes issues on 'window level' and not for only some contents of window.

Yep, the symptoms are little bit different depending on gpu (different visual
list) and how driver implements texture from pixmap with srgb (AFAIK not
defined by any spec) :/ Hopefully the patch would be reviewed soon.

Yep having done some more investigation I do agree it's not about blending,
it's about getting wrong kind of visual. I'll wait for review comments on the
xorg change.

Another problem caused by the new Mesa srgb visuals -- and assigning srgb to
the special 32 bit composite overlay -- seems to be that the xf86-video-intel
ddx will only give you a black screen under KDE Plasma 5, as tested with
KUbuntu 16.04.3 LTS + distribution provided X-Server 1.19.3. Found this when i
disabled depth 30 after testing my 10 bpc Mesa patches on top of the new srgb
patch and stared at a black screen after logging in again.

Works fine with the intel-ddx at X-Screen "DefaultDepth 30", or with the
modesetting ddx at regular depth 24.

Yes, I believe the dark windows is a result of Qt not using the ARGB visual for
those windows, so the background which is supposed to be translucent is solid
black.

I don't disagree with the solution, but I don't think these are blending
issues; it's rather that applications are looking for a non-sRGB capable
fbconfig associated with the ARGB visual, and either giving up or falling back
to a non-ARGB visual after not finding one.

It is possible that there are 2 separate issues. One is the rendering results
of krunner, panel and launcher menu, that is way too dark and then there are
these invisible windows. Both get fixed by not setting sRGB capable config for
32bit visual, which I think is correct thing todo since there is only 1 such
(non-conformant) visual exposed.

modified test case

The window decoration is a separate texture in kwin, so the decoration should
be rendered normally even if the fbconfig is causing a blending issue with the
window contents. I think it is more likely that binding the pixmap to a texture
failed, and kwin is skipping the window entirely as a result.

I'm attaching a modified version of the test case that prints all the
attributes kwin looks at, and also does the additional filtering and sorting of
fbconfigs that kwin does. This version also sets GLX_ALPHA_SIZE to 8 and
GLX_BUFFER_SIZE to 32.

fix/workaround

I've sent this patch to xorg-devel for review/discussion. Problem is that GLX
may pick sRGB capable config for 32bit visual that is used for translucent
windows and compositor (kwin) does not seem to do blending properly in this
case as it seems not aware of sRGB at all. Another bug indicated that
gnome-shell may have the same issue so I'm proposing to disable sRGB globally
32bit visual for now.

Yep, I believe I managed to isolate there what is happening with those Firefox
menus, they get created with 32bit visual and are then invisible for some
reason. Thanks for the output, will keep digging what causes this.

Tried the test application.

See the attached file (hope I did it properly, this time) for its output.

The application is not successful in displaying a window, but makes the window
manager think that a window has been opened. In fact, the task manger starts
showing a button for an unnamed window. Clicking the button does not rise any
window, though and merely takes focus away from the previously focused window.

You'll need libx11, libxrender and libgl development packages, on Fedora they
are called:

libX11-devel
libXrender-devel
mesa-libGL-devel

Following line should compile the app:

g++ -g -ggdb -o glxapp test.cpp -lX11 -lXrender -lGL

This patch (that simply rearranges visuals) fixes the issue.

OK thanks, I was able to reproduce this just yesterday but today after update
from oibaf not anymore .. so I'm really confused what this is about :/

My testing has been with older plasma 5.10.5 though as this is what the other
bug 103655 is filed against. I will go through all the components today as I
did replace dri and libGL of my own but later replaced by doing "apt-get
install --reinstall" and menus still worked.

Tried right now. Incidentally, I have always been working with SNA, since it is
fine on haswell and snappier than glamor.

I still see the issue with mesa as of

17.4 git snapshot taken on 17/11/15 07:30 commit id 65123e...

I'll try again when a newer build of a mesa snapshot is available for kubuntu
17.10 (likely tomorrow).

Hello, could you please retry with using "sna" as the acceleration method? I
will attach here required configuration file for testing this. You will need to
copy this file to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/.

I've reproduced this and trying to understand what's going on. This is caused
by my patch that exposes sRGB visuals.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

There is a specific repo for kde updates.

As of today, after another set of mesa updates, I do not see the issue on
nouveau.

Or maybe not since this was seen also with nouveau. I will anyway try to bisect

[Mesa-dev] [Bug 103699] Latest mesa breaks firefox on kde plasma with compositing on

2017-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103699

Bug ID: 103699
Summary: Latest mesa breaks firefox on kde plasma with
compositing on
   Product: Mesa
   Version: git
  Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Mesa core
  Assignee: mesa-dev@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com
QA Contact: mesa-dev@lists.freedesktop.org

Seen on kubuntu artful with kde plasma 5.11.3, using the "oibaf" PPA that
provides the latest (git) mesa over the normal distribution one on an almost
daily basis.

Seen both on intel graphics (haswell) and nvidia graphics (Quadro FX 570 with
nouveau).

Since the last week, mesa breaks firefox when compositing is on in the window
manager. Specifically, the overlays that should appear when pressing toolbar
buttons do not appear any more, nor do alert/confirmation dialogs. Note that
firefox does not use the normal system dialogs, rather some overlays right
below the screen element related to them (a button, an element on the toolbar,
etc.).

Reverting to the system version of mesa fixes the issue.

Unfortunately:

1) I have initially thought that the issue was in firefox itself, so I have not
noted down the day on which git mesa started breaking firefox (should be
between 3/11 and 10/11, approximately, though).

2) I cannot bisect, since I rely on pre-built binaries from an ubuntu PPA.

I certainly see the issue with:

libdrm 2.4.88+git170630
mesa 17.4~git1711120730

I do not see it with

libdrm 2.4.83 from ubuntu artful
mesa 17.2.2 from ubuntu artful

Neither I was seeing it with mesa/libdrm from git more than about 1 week ago.
