Re: [meteorite-list] Fw: new fall

Dear List, All of Erfoud is in an uproar!! A very large, slowly moving
meteorite has detonated over the town, witnessed by many hundreds of
tourists in Aziz's hotel as well as many Erfoudians! Aziz actually saw it
first as he was driving from the hotel towards his home in Erfoud! The
object was seen to split into hundreds of flaming individuals that then fell
towards the earth. The time was recorded as 2040 GMT. More news coming!!!
Thanks Nels

Thanks Ron,

The Wichita Eagle also ran an article on these Brenham finds and gave it the

photos and is color, but it is too large for my scanner. The write up and
the main photograph used in the article can be found on their website

Im sure that locate fall site on desert or montains must take a few days

But if bolide fly slow and exploded then I hope there are big chances that

[meteorite-list] April MeteoriteTimes Mystery Meteorite

2006-04-17 Thread Frank Cressy
Hello all,

Just a quick note that I'll announce the
MeteoriteTimes Mystery meteorite on Wednesday
afternoon.
Not a whole lot of guesses yet...maybe it was too
hard?
For those that are stumped I suggest working the
problem backwards and determining the country first.
Pick a dozen famous meteorites that nearly all the
meteorite community is familiar with and see if any
fell nearly 2 years to the day after that the country
became an independabt nation. Some can be eliminated
quickly. For instance everyone is familiar with
Allende, but it can be eliminated because Mexico did
not become an independant nation in 1967.

After you determine the country, use the photo to
determine the probable classification and magnitude of
the TKW. This and common sense should get you to one
or two possibilities.

The link to the Mystery Meteorite is:

http://www.meteoritetimes.com/Back_Links/2006/April/mystery_meteorite.htm

Have fun!

Perhaps when you use common sense, you might understand the cause for so many
witnessed recovered falls in Morocco.
It is a desert, so searching is not difficult.
It is almost always clear, so most falls would be seen by someone.
It is a very hot country, so the culture there means people are outside well
into the nighttime where in most western nations, most people are inside
staring at their televisions come nighttime.
It is a country where almost everyone has heard about meteorites and they
equate the fall with $$$.
Just as many meteorites are falling elsewhere but people don't report it
because it is just another event.

Yes, sure, but
Did morocco is the only country with inhabitants ? What about Egypt,
Tunesia, Mauritania or Burkina Faso ?
Falls like Benguerir or this one, big bolide with explosion will be seen by
many people, not matter if this is NY or Zagora or Dziegielow :)

One thing is true. They have incredible luck in morocco.
