Hello? Anyone out there? Is this still the Meteorite list? Sorry, but I seem to be finding a problem reading about meteorites due to all the noise. Re: [meteorite-list] Hmmm.. Monthly Favourite Update
Hi Dave all, Well how about some nice Thin Section pics then! John Kashuba very kindly took some photos of his NWA 2704 thin section which he has allowed me to use on my current Monthly Favourite page. They really are some beautiful images. www.meteorites.com.au/favourite.html Cheers, Jeff - Original Message - From: Dave Harris To: metlist Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2007 5:44 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] Hmmm.. I am actual curious to know now how much is the price for gram of this meteorite of ONLY 1500 grams total mass said in the first days this meteorite its arrive in the market. From the offers of material I have received in this days, I presume we are go to at 10 kg. material.last time I take another similar rip-off Matteo - Original Message - Da : [EMAIL PROTECTED] A : Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Oggetto : [meteorite-list] Two large crusted meteorites from the latest fall available - AD Data : Sat, 02 Jun 2007 16:32:51 +0200 to raise funds for a further investigation of the Bassikounou meteorite fall we are parting with two selcted specimens of this recent witnessed fall. The first specimen is a rhomboid 497gm fragment with freshest fusion crust and roll over rim. This specimen has seven surfaces of which six are covered with fallfresh thick primary fusion crust. One fragmented surface shows only minor signs of heating indicating a terminal fragmentation shortly before the dark flight. Among the unique features of this fallfresh meteorite are impact marks composed of parallel streaks of adherent clay soil. A plant fiber embedded in these marks still sticks to uncleaned meteorite. The second Bassikounou offered is a 318 gm completely crusted indivudal. This specimen is heavily sculpted and shows a chaotic fusion pattern indicating heavy and fast turbulating around its centre of gravity. Both are absolute premium pieces. For collectors of cosmic metal we offer a large regmaglypted 117 gm etched endpiece of the Taza plessitic iron. The spectacular half individual is excellently prepared and has a brilliant etch. The cut surface displays a kamazite band that flows into a troilite inclusion and which is dramatically intersected by hundreds of parallel plessite needles. [meteorite-list] A question of the proper way to discuss pairing
Hi List, this is Tom Phillips. I just listed an individual and a slice of a meteorite that I used in a Meteorite Times write up called The Perfect Chondrule . I'm not trying to advertise but rather make sure I am handling the issue of like material properly. I have sorted out of a huge (over 1000Kg, not all mine) bulk mixed shipment of Moroccan Meteorites 32 Kg. of like material. It is my understanding that none can be Officially paired and each separate fragment would need to be classified to be named. I addressed the subject in my eBay listing very carefully but I was hoping any one with the time could share thoughts on this subject with me (And perhaps other interested list members). This listing is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemih=016sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3A ITviewitem=item=260124441047rd=1rd=1 Thanks,Tom ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] Marcin's CH3 chondrite
Hello List, I would like to direct your attention to Marcin's latest acquisition: NWA 4781, a rare and unique addition to the exotic group of CH chondrites (see David Weir's excellent website for more information on the CH-clan!). The NWA number is still provisional but will soon be official. This unique chondrite has been classified by two (!) different labs and both David and I had the pleasure to study pictures of this significant Hot Desert find before it was offered to the collecting community. Right now there are only six CH chondrites worldwide: Açfer 182 / 207 / 214 / 366 - Allan Hills 85085 and: NWA 4781 .. so I think that Marcin's $/gram price for such an ultrarare meteorite is more than very attractive: http://www.polandmet.com/_nwa4781.htm I've taken pictures of my 1.184-gram endcut (magnification:16x and 32x) just in case any potential buyers are interested in seeing its tiny chondrules (average mean diameter ca. 0.1 mm) up close. Best wishes from the proud owner of 1 + 1.184 grams of NWA 4781. Bernd __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] Marcin's CH3 chondrite: Total number
Hello List, I just got mail from David that I should correct my statement that there are only 6 CH chondrites. The MetBull database says there are 19, even though many of them are paired. David has the total number at 13 but he also says that he could be off a couple either way. It is really high time I resume updating my databases ... something I haven't been able to do for several years now :-( Anyway, few people will be lucky enough to own a CH3 chondrite so do not miss out on this one. [meteorite-list] NWA 4781 new CH3 carbonaceous chondrite AD
Helo Im proundly present new ultra rare meteorite from NWA area. NWA 4781 (provinsional) Carbonaceous Chondrite CH3 W4 Morocco , 11.2006 TKW=181g I must say that I have never before see a meteorite with surface like in this CH3 meteorite. Inside, iron distribution is also unusual. Iron is in small groups and not distributed regulary in whole matrix like we see on all chondrites. From time to time I have found on slices larger iron spheres up to few milimeters. Matrix contain very small chondruls , mostly under 1mm, and rarely larger. Meteoritical Bulletin say that there are only 19 CH3 chondrites and only 9 from hot deserts. 1 Oman SaU 290 4 Alregian Acfer's 182, 207, 214, 366 4 Maroccan NWA's 470, 739, 770, 2210 http://www.polandmet.com/_nwa4781.htm I hope that final price is fair for such rare material with limited supply. Right now I own only around 120g of this meteorite. Free 20g type specimen and cut loses make your work. More rare meteorites will come soon, only if labs will work fast :) -[ MARCIN CIMALA ]-[ I.M.C.A.#3667 ]- http://www.Meteoryt.net [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.PolandMET.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.Gao-Guenie.com GSM +48(607)535 195 [ Member of Polish Meteoritical Society ] __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] [AD] New Website, Campos, Old Collection Gibeons
Dear Listees: Greetings all. Well, the List sure is quiet. I hope that's because you're all outside enjoying the good weather. I'd like to make a few sale announcements: • I recently completed work on a new website: http://www.campometeorites.com From the name it won't be hard to guess that this site is all about Campos. It presents a good selection of modest-sized, affordable Campo del Ceilo irons to suit all budgets, as well as premium specimens with natural holes, etc. The site also includes a small photo gallery and extensive information about the history of Campo del Cielo. • I acquired a number of terrific Gibeons with a most interesting and unusual history. From the Taylor Collection in England, these irons were collected by a Namib goatherd in the the 1960s, and were purchased by a British geologist in 1971, from the late goatherder's wife. They were all surface finds. Most have been wire brushed, and have particularly nice shapes. All come with an original color Taylor Collection label: http://www.aerolite.org/specials/taylor-collection.htm • I have given Aerolite.org a re-design, and added in some new features, graphics, and photos, with the hope of making it more fun and user-friendly: http://www.aerolite.org -- and -- http://www.aerolite.org/meteorites-for-sale.htm • I am pleased to now offer four lines of meteorite jewelry, including exclusive creations by Sirocco Design, Delray Designs and Crystal Spirit: http://www.aerolite.org/meteorite-jewelry.htm • And finally, if you need something *really* special for your collection, please check out the new Museum Specimens catalogue: http://www.aerolite.org/museum-specimens.htm Thanks for looking. Best wishes to all, and spring greetings from sunny old Tucson, Geoff N. www.aerolite.org www.campometeorites.com Official supplier of Steve Arnold Brenham meteorites http://www.aerolite.org/brenham.htm __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] Marcin's CH3 chondrite
Bernd, David, Marcin and List, This IS a fun rock. There is a lot to see and you KNOW that it has gone through a lot of processing before it got into our hands. Large chondrules formed somewhere, got broken then mixed with small perfect chondrules. Phyllosilicates were aqueously altered elsewhere then incorporated as dense lumps in this otherwise dry blend. (But do I see just a little bleaching on a couple RP/C chondrules? Tell me if you see any.) I snapped a few pictures to show this meteorite's texture and variety. http://www.johnkashuba.com/Pages/Meteorite%20Pages/Pictures/NWA4781CH3.htm Regards, - John John Kashuba Ontario, California -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2007 12:07 PM To: Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Subject: [meteorite-list] Marcin's CH3 chondrite Hello List, I would like to direct your attention to Marcin's latest acquisition: NWA 4781, a rare and unique addition to the exotic group of CH chondrites (see David Weir's excellent website for more information on the CH-clan!).
