[meteorite-list] AD--one day reverse auctions today only

Listees
Thought I'd do something a little different this Sunday. The
following 3 items did not sell recently and I have relisted them as one
day reverse auctions. The prices have been reduced and I will continue
to drop the price every hour or 2 until they either sell or I can't
sustain the price drop. They all still have watchers from the previous
listing especially the 99 gram LL3 endcut.I suspect that one may go
first. All 3 come with a bonus Lunar or Mars meteorite in presentation
case.

I will post an alert first on my facebook profile of upcoming
pricedrops

http://www.facebook.com/emeraldisle.meteorites

see the 3 items here

Coffeyville, Chondrite - H-5 from Montgomery County, Kansas auction at the

Wonder if we know the lucky winner and if they showed up at the Live Auction
to appear on TV.

All the best!

[meteorite-list] Light and sound event over North Eastern Pennsylvania 2011/04/16 17:30-18:00

2011-04-17 Thread MEM

Over NE Pennsylvania between 17:30 and 18:00 EDT (Local) there was a flash and
bang of huge proportions Vic. Long Pond, PA

The light was so intense I saw it through my closed eyelids indirectly
reflected
off the walls inside walls. 4-5 seconds later (flash-to-bang) was a huge
rumbling, echoing, and persisting report-- very unlike a normal lightening and
thunder event. Given we were in the midst of an intense rain storm which
otherwise had no thunder and lightening, I held off on making a report .
However in a conversation with a friend who was 25-30 miles away, he mentioned
a huge flash and loud sound also. I am therefore mentioning it should a
fireball have fallen during a rainstorm and might other-wise go unnoticed.

It seems to me that to hear loud sonics within about 5 seconds after the
bright lite appearance, is rather too short of a period to be meteorite
related. It could be I guess, but it just seems too short.

I witnessed this too. There was a massive storm that rolled through
the north east last night. It was most likely lighting from the storm.

Hi Tom and all,

I understand and totally agree. However, for those that are a lot less
shy than me it could be a great tool.

Here's why, if you can type, you can make a animated movie, and the
first one is free! All you do is type in the words you want your
character to say and the program does the rest.

My video took me 15 minutes to copy and paste text from my site onto
theirs. Then I selected the scene, character, and clicked finish.

check out their website here:

[meteorite-list] ATTN: Ron Baalke - Impactor Detection Questions, Part 2

2011-04-17 Thread E.P. Grondine
Hi Ron -

As I did not make it to the Flagstaff meeting nor to the Texas session, and
I've read no coverage of either, so here's some stupid questions for the NASA
NEO office:

Last I heard, the AF had walked away from PS1 operations, and Weiler was not
walking in. What's going on with PanStarrs operation and funding?

Assume that every 26 million years or so the Earth gets pounded by a Long
Period Comet. (In other words, Clube and Napier's injection model is correct,
and Mueller and Morrison's Nemesis model is wrong.)

What is the best way of getting the earliest warning of an inbound LPC?
Not the cheapest, but the BEST.

Assume that the ELE for humans (in contrast to other species) is about once per
1,000,000 years. How much is it worth to find out what hit, whether comet or
asteroid?

Assume that small 30 m cometissimals hit the Earth quite often and cause 5 kt
airbursts, and can come from any direction without prior passes. Does a radar
or lidar system based on the Moon then make sense for their detection?

Do you know if anyone in the US federal government has responsibility for
investigating geoblemes or tsunami remains?

What is the current state of the imaging of 73P's fragment stream?
Will WISE be able to make 2 band observations? Will the price of Moss take a
sudden plunge in 2022?

Finally, the President sent a proposal in reply to a request from the Congress
to set up an office under FEMA to plan impact response. Has any action been
taken by the Congress yet? Any by NASA?

Thanks for your answers. I would not like to go on to late night talk radio and
give more than 50,000 listeners wrong information, but I can.

PS - Hi Steve, Geoff - there's television, and then there's radio. I'm sure
Discovery PR can line you up to take the public's questions.

That about uses up all my stupidity for the evening.
