[meteorite-list] Second Large Fragment of Chelyabinsk Meteorite Found in Lake
http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_03_17/Search-for-largest-Chelyabinsk-meteor-chunk-delayed-due-to-bad-weather-1498/ Search for largest Chelyabinsk meteor chunk delayed due to bad weather Voice of Russia March 17, 2014 A second huge fragment of the Chelyabinsk meteorite was found in the Chebarkul lake over the weekend. And yet the operation to lift it from the bottom of the lake has been put off due to poor weather in the southern Urals, with massive snowfalls and strong wind. Experts established the location of the fragment "within a range of few meters" last weekend. Its diameter, according to preliminary estimates, is more than two meters, while the weight can be several tons. The search for the largest meteorite fragment is delayed due to poor weather conditions in the southern Urals, with massive snowfalls and strong wind. Divers expect the weather to improve by Friday. The largest of the fragments found to date weighs more than 500 pounds. It was raised from the Chebarkul lake October 2013 and is currently exhibited in the regional museum. The Chelyabinsk meteorite entered the Earth's atmosphere February 15, 2013 about 7:10 MSK. It caused a huge explosion in the atmosphere at an altitude of 30-50 km and resulted in fall of numerous fragments upon a large area of the Chelyabinsk region. Thousands of people in the Urals and northern Kazakhstan had watched the explosion. The largest fragments of the celestial body fell near the Chebarkul lake, 78 km west of Chelyabinsk. __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
