[meteorite-list] Karoonda specimens larger than 2grams
Hello All, Hope everyone is having a pleasant and apparently quiet weekend. This post is directed to those of us who have specimens of Karoonda (CK4) in their collection that are greater than 2grams. I realize that it is highly unlikely that none are available, but I am curious how many 2g specimens are still surviving in our collections? I've made a statement in my Karoonda auction that my 2.45g specimen is probably the largest fragment made available in quite a long time, and I'm curious if there are any specimens even close to that size in personal collections. Feel free to contact me off-List if you prefer, Bob V. __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Re: [meteorite-list] Karoonda specimens larger than 2grams
Hello Robert, I know a 500+ grams piece, oriented and fully crusted on one side, broken back. Very nice piece. But it is in a private collection and not for sale at this time. Anne M. [meteorite-list] Karoonda
Hello Bob and list, For those of you who have held onto Edwin Thompson Meteorites mail order catalogs dating from October 1984 up until the Spring 2001 final catalog, there are a number of sizeable pieces of Karoonda. In fact, until recently I still had very nice thin sections of Karoonda. I believe the last of these went to Dr. Phreddie Olsen in Denver. Yes, Denver Box famed Phreddie. A number of the larger pieces of Karoonda went to an Oregon collector who specialized back in those day in carbonaceous chondrites. If you check with Blaine Reed, Marlin Cilz, Alan Lang and David New directly, I think you will find that there are a number of nice sized pieces of Karoonda out there in private collections. Collectors who still hold my old catalogs will see that I also featured a number of large pieces and slices of Axtell, Isna ,Ivuna, Murray, Colony, Ornans, Leoville Al Rais, Murchison Allende, and more. For those of you meteorite freaks who love to get crazy over what cannot be had, the catalogs from 1998 to 2001 featured pieces of the Nakhlite; Lafayette. If wishes were horses, I would ride back in time and get those pieces back. All the best, Edwin __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] Karoonda specimens larger than 2 grams
Hello Bob and List, Remember that 84 gram beauty in Bob Haag's 1989 Catalogue (p. 14), 1991 Catalogue (p.35), 1997 Catalogue (p. 35), and, 2003 = The Robert Haag Collection of Meteorites (p. 85): AMNH trade... but that's surely the exception to the rule! So you are absolutely right: Sizeable pieces of Karoonda are far beyond the average collectors' horizon!
