Re: [meteorite-list] Most expensive watches of the year -Meteoritewatch priced over 4M.

2014-12-23 Thread Raremeteorites via Meteorite-list
Yes, I have witnessed or heard first-hand of this type of greed and lack of
respect for others honest work for decades. It only seems to be getting
worse accelerated by a poor economy. This watch company is just an example
on the high-end of the spectrum. One of my friends, who was working on a
survey vessel, witnessed a seaplane wreck on Lake Washington and rerouted it
to the rescue. Inside the wreckage was none other than John Nordstrom who
was more concerned with salvaging his briefcase than rescuing his wife. I
will not let my wife buy her shoes or boots from Nordstrom's knowing how
unsavory they are.

On the other end, I have given people the opportunity to make an honest
dollar several times but it never ceases to amaze me how quickly they burn
out from a little bit of hard work and try to find shortcuts (entitlements
and outright stealing). Plagiarism and theft are one and the same as far as
I am concerned. In the once fine, avocation of meteorite collecting,
piggy-backing, plagiarism, lack of honoring commitments, material swapping
and theft have become all too common for my tastes.

I could write a book on the subject but feel it would be better to focus on
other pursuits.

I can confirm what Adam has related. The Ambassador slice encased in it's
cutting edge engineered, airtight portal was, for a short time, the most
extraordinary object entrusted to me, The piece was perfect in every
presentation. He who designed the portal was a genius and what was presented
and contained within was the most intensely recognizable, inspiriring slice
of the Moon I will ever see in my life. To hold it in my arms and gaze at
this enormoous, unblemished, priceless, celestial object was akin to having
a sexual experience.

The idiots who didn't have the education, intellect, or sensitivity to
realize what they were trying to steal from Adam will remain just
thatidiots.

Yes, I proposed the idea to Louis Moinet about a watch with a lunar face
using NWA 5000 which actually looks like the Moon. They copied my Jules
Verne portal design and name after I provided them with images of the first
slice of NWA 5000. The first complete slice of NW 5000 was mounted in a
custom machined case which looked like a portal. I renamed the piece from
the Jules Verne Slice to the Ambassador Slice after being plagiarized
by

this watch company. They named their first lunar watch the Jules Verne
and even had a mini-portal in the side of it to view a tiny cheap piece of
a

Dhofar lunar meteorite.

Dhofar lunar specimens were the least expensive at the time and yet they
want millions of dollars for the watches.

How original?

Most expensive watches of the year

THERE’S NOTHING that conveys your financial status more than what you
wear on your wrist. The world of luxurious timepieces has expanded in
recent times as technology, innovation and ornamentation combine to
produce watches that are truly unique and spell class and elegance apart
from money. Notably, the brand that features the most is Patek
Phillippe, but not as number one. Venture Capital Post has listed the 10
most expensive watches sold across the globe in 2014:

***
Louis Moinet Meteoris watch: The history attached to this watch is what
makes it so valuable. Designer Moinet decided to use pieces of
meteorites to make a set of watches. He collaborated with meteorite
hunter Luc Labenne to collect pieces from the moon, a Mars meteorite and
an asteroid. The result was the creation of four extremely rare
tourbillon watches worth over $4.5 million each.

Hi all:
Adam have you ever applied for a design patent for your Idea? they arent very
expensive for an individual. Here is a link to the patent office. Photos
automatically have a copyright for the person who took the photo without any
application needed. if the design was taken from a photo it could be copyright
infringement. but things like that are usualy settled out of court for pennies
on the dollar.

Most expensive watches of the year

THERE’S NOTHING that conveys your financial status more than what you

Yes, I have in the past but do not bother much anymore since protecting a
patent is cost and time prohibitive. The only interest I have in patents is
patented property that carry with them supreme, complete and unchallengeable
ownership. California is famous for trying to challenge (tax) patented
property but has lost every case in Supreme Court for over 100 years so
there is some hope.

Hi all:
Adam have you ever applied for a design patent for your Idea? they arent
very expensive for an individual. Here is a link to the patent office.
Photos automatically have a copyright for the person who took the photo
without any application needed. if the design was taken from a photo it
could be copyright infringement. but things like that are usualy settled out
of court for pennies on the dollar.

I renamed the piece from

by
this watch company. They named their first lunar watch the Jules Verne

Dhofar lunar meteorite.

Dhofar lunar specimens were the least expensive at the time and yet they
want millions of dollars for the watches.

Adam, you live in a palace where the only industry is gambling. When economy
dropped, so did gambling.
People learned quickly how to live within their means, and gambling became a

sad casino scene for the 70+ age group and $1.99 buffets.

[meteorite-list] Meteorite prices as a gauge of economic health

2014-12-23 Thread Matson, Rob D. via Meteorite-list
To make this discussion a little more meteorite-specific, in a truly healthy
economy
meteorites could not be purchased for the low prices they currently command. The
economy is doing fine if your gauge of the economy is the stock market. If
you're wealthy, you're probably having a good year. But if you're right out of
college any time in the last five years, you are probably not doing so well.

GDP growth was 5% for the 3rd quarter -- not for the year. It remains to be seen
whether that admittedly impressive level is sustained. A few other factors to
keep
in mind. The stock market and most commodities are priced in dollars; what
happens to the price of stocks when the dollar falls in value? Another sign of a
struggling economy is the ratio of the price of platinum to the price of gold.
Mined
platinum is far rarer and more valuable to industry than gold. It is also more
expensive
to extract, and is mined in far fewer places in the world than is gold. (South
Africa
accounts for over 70% of annual production; no one country accounts for more
than
~15% of gold production.) Gold is perceived as a safe haven and a hedge against
inflation or recession; platinum, by contrast, is sensitive to economic cycles,
precisely
because of its heavy use in industry (e.g. automobiles). When economic times are
bad, the price of platinum can fall as low as gold, or even below it (as it did
for most
of 2012). As recently as last week, gold and platinum were at parity, which is
a sign
of questionable economic health. As proof, this latest GDP number has given
platinum a boost, but done nothing to the price of gold. Compare here:

http://www.kitco.com/charts/livegold.html
http://www.kitco.com/charts/liveplatinum.html

The graphs are virtually identical up until 6 hours ago.

As for the unemployment rate, you are referring to the commonly reported U3
number which does not include people who have given up looking for work, but
*does* include people who work part-time (not by choice) as little as one hour
a week. The U6 number is more representative of the true employment
situation, and while it has been falling since 2010, the U6 number was lower
from 1994 all the way until late 2008. --Rob

[meteorite-list] FW: Meteorite prices as a gauge of economic health

2014-12-23 Thread Dave Gheesling via Meteorite-list
questionable economic health

Great post, Rob, as usual. From the short term effects of quantitative
easing (buckle up for the long term effects, and it would be irresponsible
to use the stock market as a current gauge), to the recent and intriguing
modification of employment statistics (right you are below), to the
burgeoning matter of healthcare cost expansion...no need to go further,
although that's easily doable. We are indeed releasing some pent-up demand,
but without a doubt, the domestic economy is not yet approaching recovery.
So, to your initial point below, perhaps it is a good time to buy
extraterrestrial real estate.

All the best,

Simply ask how many people are better off these days. Nearly 50% of the
houses in my neighborhood are vacant and remain on the market. In a booming
economy these houses would be occupied! I do not listen to false reports
and twisted numbers. I observe what is really happening.

Poor economy? Stock market crashing through record highs, GDP growth of 5%
this year, best since 2003, fuel prices collapsing, unemployment rate lowest
in 10 years.

[meteorite-list] Looking for a large OC slice

2014-12-23 Thread Sean T. Murray via Meteorite-list

Folks,

I am looking for a large format ordinary chondrite slice - something at
least 30 cm across, preferably closer to 35 cm across axes. I'd like
something that shows a fresh matrix and metal.

Please contact me off-list.

And Greg - don't bother sending me a picture of NWA 5000 :) - I'm looking
for something a bit more ordinary.
