[meteorite-list] Fwd: Last Call - The Global Meteorite Price Report - 2015... in Time for Tucson (ad)
Team Meteorite: The bi-annual edition of The Global Meteorite Price Report - 2015 is available. Note - I will not be offering this on the met-list again until I publish the next report for 2017. Purchasers will receive it as a pdf file attached to an email. I've been selling this report on the meteorite-list and on eBay since 2004 because I knew it would be helpful to collectors. It is the only source in the world of retail meteorite 'price discovery'. It is good to know what your meteorites are 'worth' or what new ones might cost. This edition has been expanded to cover dealer prices for 264 meteorites and their permutations. Expanded from the last edition, there are now also 52 'generic classifications' so you'll even learn esoteric like What does a typical NWA monomict-eucrite cost? * Nice publication overall and very well written. Thanks, it's a great guide, glad you take the time to put it together! WoW! This is wonderful Kevin! Keep up the good work! I appreciate the effort you put in to these and it always makes interesting reading. Excellent report. I will be re-reading this for the next 2 years until your next. Kevin, thanks for giving me the opportunity to get your 2015 meteorite market survey. I really enjoyed your book on meteorite collecting and I often used it for reference. A must for all interested in meteoritica. ** The report begins with a description of the methodology I used in interpreting the information. The data is now professionally presented on an Excel spread sheet. You will find prices for some meteorites beginning in 2005, even more meteorite prices for 2007, even more for 2008, 2010, 2012 and then the 316 items surveyed for this year. Many meteorites have pricing for most or all of these years making trend spotting easy. No stone (or Iron) was left un-turned :) The 'State of the Market' considers whether meteorite collecting is a fading fad. I review the results of a survey sent to several International dealers to gauge their confidence in the future of our hobby. The long-term impact of NWA's is revealed. Next, we go to the Campo del Cielo strewn field where questions about the origins of 'New Campos' and another possible pretender are entertained. My take on The Collapse of Lunar and Mars Meteorite Prices is certain to be controversial. (Update - This week AHupe had a sub-gram slice of Lunar NWA 5000 sell at a rate of $216/gm on eBay.) For those unaware that there never was a dog left like ashes in a moment by the Mars Nakhla meteorite fall, the truth will set you free. I warn of certain (cheap) numbered and nameless NWA's having the potential of being sold as certain (expensive) historic meteorites. The 'Meteorite Price Analysis' completes the report, parsing price movement and availability of the most important meteorites in all classifications. ** Nice study, and very helpful! The price list is great! Just what I needed. I like to stay plugged into the market and really dig your reports. Thanks Kevin, Great work! Thank you my friend, I am always trying to learn and add to the Collection and with your help with the Global Report this will make collecting a lot easier. Hi Kevin , just want to say - thanks for your wonderful work :) *** But the report is not just words and numbers, it's dense with photos of people we know, places we wish we could visit, and meteorites. Totaling 33 pages- by far the biggest edition yet- this price report will enlighten, entertain, and likely save you a lot of money on your next meteorite purchase. It might be useful in determining insurance coverage for your collection (ask your agent). Dealers can check their sales prices against their competitors. Researchers and museum met curators can follow market trends. I haven't raised the price of this report for years to keep it affordable to all and I hope you will agree that it remains a bargain at $15. I offer this work because I think it is good for you... for everyone... not just dealers, to know the current market prices of different meteorites along with which direction they are going. I asked a dear friend, the former editor/publisher/founder of Meteorite! magazine to take a look at this report to save me from my errors and omissions. He did so, adding Well done – it’s a real contribution to the meteorite scene. - Dr. Joel Schiff ** Please visit Paypal.com, use my name - Kevin Kichinka - to reach my account and deposit $15. I will

I guess everybody's perception is different. I take the buyer's market comment back. I just read some emails from several collectors and one dealer that vendors are asking full retail and there are very few bargains to be had. It used to be that it was worth the price of traveling there in order to pick up a few good deals. No such thing as wholesale prices until the end of the show when dealers become desperate to move inventory, some of which is left over from several years from past shows. In this case, the law of supply and demand appear to be out of sync. [meteorite-list] Attendees at Tucson Show
I cannot speak to sales or supplies, but Mike F. is correct about the people attending - -I just arrived home from Innsuites and there was no parking. I had to park about 5 blocks away in old downtown and walk to the hotel. Sometimes this happens later during show but never saw this the very first day that all rooms were required to be open and yes the parking lot and patio have standing water, and Kino/TEP park has vendors pushing sticks up into the tents to drain the water off in deluges. Hardly any parking there early this morning when it first opened. So I hope all of these folks are buying something to support the hard working vendors from all over the world. Re: [meteorite-list] Attendees at Tucson Show
The reason there were no parking spots left is that the overflow parking in the dirt was muddy from what I was told from a fossil buyer who left early in disgust. Everybody knows that there is no where near enough parking at the Insuites to begin with, even under normal circumstances. There were many spots available Thursday from what I was told, the first time I have heard this during all of the previous shows I have attended. You used to have to circle two or three times to find a spot even with the overflow parking open. I am not there this year so depend on reports from others and what is published in the in the media. In any case, I am glad to stay home this year. I hope those that spent the money to visit the show are rewarded with some good deals. I just have not heard of any at this point. Only 9 meteorite vendors bother to post the Tucson Show information request, the lowest number I have ever seen since it was started. Re: [meteorite-list] Attendees at Tucson Show
Tucson is scarier to me than Oman, Rub al Kali and the Australian Outback, especially at night. There is a reason that 24 hour convenience stores lock their doors at dusk and pass goods through barred windows at night there. The nearby Mexican border town of Nogales no fun either. Been there several times but no longer have the desire to return. Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson pics?
Mike, you should be commended for putting on a brave face during adversity. One just needs to look at news reports that have no reason to lie about attendance. I noticed attendance dropping off last year when I did go to the show. For the first time I can recall, getting a room is no problem at all this year. I left my options open and decided a few days ago it was not worth it for me this year. The lack of deals, bad weather, Superbowl traffic, scams and lack of meteorite social gatherings was enough to keep me away this year. The truth is that most people do not have much disposable income to attend the show in the first place is what the news is reporting. The millennials could care less about collectables these days and don't have any spare funds for non-electronic gadgets. I have a huge stockpile of meteorites and a warehouse full of antiques to prove it. The only hot items selling these days for me are vehicles and artifacts. My wife acquired a large U.S. space program collection which I will start listing items from in the up and coming weeks. My only hope is to break even on it since it was acquired due to an investor failing to pay a note. I wish all the honest dealers well and hope that collectors can find a piece or two to add to their collections. Teslas, which are soon to be built right here in Nevada, are extremely nice city cars but you will need a $160,000.00 Jeep American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) Rubicon Brute or a Jeep Special Operations (SPLOPS) Rubicon to hang with the big boys in field :) What does a Tesla have to do with a trade show for Gems and Minerals other than not burning any fossil fuel? Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson pics?
I'm confused, how could attendance be lowest in decades? The show starts today. There are no rental cars and very hard to find a place to sleep in the entire city. It is pouring rain and flooding and hotel is full, parking lot completely full and people walking blocks in the rain to get here. My sales at just fine, and yes, there are no wholesale prices and supply is down and prices are up. Adam, Find new people to lie to you about the show because the ones telling you this crap are delusional, or come down for yourself. According to the press, there are a bunch of tire kickers who are holding onto their now, very limited, hard-earned cash so we will have to see what happens. I guess the lower cost of gas isn't helping or people are distracted with the Superbowl hosted in Glendale, Arizona which is expected to attract over one million tourists. Go Seahawks! I guess everybody's perception is different. I read that attendance is the lowest in a decade and two meteorite dealers, one artifact dealer and one mineral vendor I talked to said they would be lucky to earn their show fees back and they probably will not be returning next year. It looks like a buyers market to me. Tucson is jumping. All hotels full. More people than in many years. Sales are good. Supply is way down. Prices are up because supply running out. The show is great. Last year was my best year at the show, didn't sell a million $$$ but actually not far from it. People with no material and no ambition should stay home, as the show is really active and walking required. The hotel parking lot was completely full this morning, first time in a few years actually despite major flooding rain. I decided not to attend this year for many reasons. The only thing I will miss is the IMCA dinner and the Michael Blood auction which no longer exists. I would rather spend my hard earned funds from artifact sales on searching for meteorites and other minerals.
