Re: [meteorite-list] Serichi (Habaswein) stability--somewhat answered

2017-12-05 Thread Andrey via Meteorite-list
Hello,

And many thanks to *everyone *who answered. I somewhat did not expect such
an active course of discussion.

At this point I need to say that I am not only collector (and did't wrote
this anywhere) - I am small dealer also. I cut and prepare irons and
pallasites by myself for 9 years, so I have some experience in this. You
can see my works on ebay for all time, please don't consider advertising.

As all who works with irons and pallasites, I have certain methods of
stabilization. Sometimes they works great, sometimes only for some time,
sometimes don't work at all. The reasons can be imperfection of my methods,
quality of specific initial pieces and rather humid climate where I live.
But the main factor (just my personal opinion) is meteorite itself. Are
there many of us who have seen stabilized for years Dronino or Admire? Even
Brenham or Muonionalusta? Short time - no problem, but for years?

Polished to mirror slice of Sericho without any protect (was left as a test
specifically) get rusty for 5 days. So the purpose of my question was to
understand is this my preparing methods so bad, piece, climate or Sericho
is itself so.

So thank you ALL again, for your advice especially. Happy Holidays and best
wishes from Vilnius,
Andrey

[meteorite-list] Stability of Sericho (Habaswein)

2017-12-04 Thread Andrey via Meteorite-list
Hello Dear List Members,

Just a small question to new Sericho (was Habaswein) Kenya pallasite
owners, dealers, cutters: how stable is it?
>From my own experience I noticed its extreme degree of instability, similar
to Admire or even more... Is this unlucky piece, just fortuity or is it
really so?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

[meteorite-list] AD - historical (1933) Europe large specimen

2016-03-14 Thread Andrey via Meteorite-list
Hello List,

A few weeks ago I decided to sell the best and most valuable piece of
my collection. It is Zemaitkiemis, L6. Fell 02.02.1933 in Lithuania,
Europe. The stone is 5380 g.
And there are also few good moments:
this material is absolutely unavailable (only 2 specimens are in the
private hands), that is historical (1933.02.02) fall in Europe, the
stone is quite fresh, 95% crusted, semi-oriented with amazing
regmaglypts through all surface and flow lines. Has 2 labels of
professor Kaveckis on it and all museum documents, where it is
accurately described. This specimen really can be the great
centerpiece of any private or museum collection.
Seeing for the sum, this offer is for serious collectors.
Feel free to contact me for pictures and price (off list, please).

Andrey Jerochov,
IMCA#6240.

[meteorite-list] using flat lap for irons and pallasites

2014-07-11 Thread Andrey via Meteorite-list
Hello dear list members,
I work with different meteorites for long time, but recently decided
to start using flat lap for grinding and polishing slices of irons and
pallasites. And now I have a couple of questions for those who tried
to do this. Kindly ask to share me few moments, please...
1. How long approx. will work diamond laps for this matter?
2. I have not bad results with first steps grinding (80, 180 and 360
grits), but then something is wrong. Using 600 and 1200 grits laps I
have vertical vibration of the specimens and deep scratches (deeper
than 600 !) on the flats, especially for large specimens. Why this
happens?
My machine is 300 mm with fixed speed 520 r/m. Polishing of well
prepared specimens with diamond pastes is going well.
Will be very grateful for any useful advice.
Best regards to everyone,
Andrey

[meteorite-list] need help in identification

2012-12-15 Thread Andrey
Hello dear List Members!
This iron was purchased on eBay as Gibeon. After cutting, polishing
and etching I have this:

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/A7gXGpRzXl9qsW41LBhMleBvwVxWmoSjT0miZoa1dK0?feat=directlink

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Bye41AsMncjWVUiY-IFjQuBvwVxWmoSjT0miZoa1dK0?feat=directlink

It is absolutely obviously that it is not Gibeon. Patterns look
similar to Seymchan, but it has more cracks, another patina and less
stability. Seller did not respond on my emails. Any opinion will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
