Another point is the strong weathering on the pictures:
 http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaposf%C3%BCred_vasmeteorit
It does seem to be an iron meteorite but does NOT seem to be a fresh fall.
Cheers, Antal

[meteorite-list] Kaposfured meteorite

2011-06-10 Thread Igaz Antal

Dear List,
I started a small investigation about this quite recent meteorite:

http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?code=34560

Its status is undocumented. What dokuments/set of information makes a
meteorite official in databases?

During the past 16 years it received very little attention and publicity even
in the local scientific media.
The story of the fall raises a lot of questions (melting things after hours,
undocumented crater, specialists forgot to take photos, etc). Please read:
http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meetings/LPSC98/pdf/1082.pdf

Another point is the strong weathering on the pictures:
http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaposf%C3%BCred_vasmeteorit

Based on my very little knowledge it does seem to be an iron
meteorite but does NOT seem to be a fresh fall.

I became very interested in the true story of this fall, but before any final
conclusion I decided to ask this community. What is your opinion?

Best Regards,
Antal

[meteorite-list] Meteorite fall: approved or doubtful?

2011-06-09 Thread Igaz Antal
Dear List,
I am new here and have some probably very basic questions:
Is there any central database to check out details about metorite findings?
What should be documented to consider any findings approved?
I only find http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/research/projects/metcat/
this catalog but it does not fully match with local databases in Hungary.
Thanks for any comments,
Antal
