[meteorite-list] Ad, ebay
Greetings fellow enthusiasts, I just finished listing around 65 specimens on ebay as fixed price listings. I'm trying to raise funds to populate my 150 gallon aquarium that I just got set up. (Raising freshwater angelfish is one of my other passions). I hope that I've got a little something for everyone. I've reduced prices on everything and I think you'll find that my offerings are very affordable. All but a few have make an offer available, so if the price isn't to your liking, make a reasonable offer and I'm sure we can get to a price that will make us both happy. The following are available: 1. A thick (6.5mm) slice of Zag with around 40% fresh black fusion crust on the edge. 2. My last slice of NWA 8170, a beautiful Polymict Eucrite with at least 3 different Eucrite lithologies, 5.24 grams. 3. Several slices of NWA 8588, a shock melt Eucrite. 11.60, 13.54, 15.49 and 48.5 grams. The 48.5 gram slice comes with a display ring custom made by Marcin Cimala. 4. NWA 8184, a 1646 gram half stone of an L3.7 that's loaded with armored chondrules. The price on this specimen has been reduced by 66%. 5. My latest classification, NWA 8615, a Howardite with ~ 50% diogenetic pyroxenes. This doesn't look like a typical Howardite and all slices are highly polished. All are in the macro size range (from 1.3 - 5 grams in size) and selling for $15 per gram. 6. I've listed around 30+ macro sized slices of NWA 8007, a beautiful L3.2 that's just loaded with chondrules. If you haven't added this nice undifferentiated meteorite to your collection yet, now is a perfect opportunity to do so. 7. My last slice of NWA 7957 a chondruleful CO3.5. 8.A beautiful end piece of Agoudal with a stunning etch, 66.3 grams. 9. A complete specimen of Gao with 1005 fusion crust,(8.74 grams) with Big Kahuna provenance. 10. NWA 7955, Polymict Diogenite. I'm selling a complete 3.21 gram slice as well as a 6.08 gram lot of 31 fragments. 11. SaU 001, complete slice, weighing 18.4 grams with a really cool achondritic inclusion. I am IMCA member #9020 and guarantee the authenticity of every meteorite that I sell. Authentic or your money back. Free shipping on any orders over $100. All specimens can be seen at: http://www.ebay.com/sch/anorthosite/m.html?_nkw=_armrs=1_ipg=_from= Paypal preferred. Any questions please feel free to contact me off list. Thanks for your time. [meteorite-list] Ad, Sale. newly classified Howardite
Greetings all, I'd like to announce NWA 8615, a new Howardite that I purchased earlier this year and was just recently classified. Carl Agee describes it as Two matching stones, weathered exterior with some caliche. A saw-cut reveals a breccia of light and dark clasts set in dark brown matrix. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows a highly brecciated texture with ~50% diogenitic pyroxenes, ~25% gabbroic eucrite pyroxenes showing Fe zoning, and ~25% equilibrated basaltic eucrite clasts showing clear separation between augite and pigeonite, with coarse exsolution lamellae. Accessory Fe-Ni metal, troilite, Ti-rich chromite, chromite, and ilmenite throughout. Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Muttik, UNM) Diogenite orthopyroxene Fs28.8±6.2Wo2.4±1.4, Fe/Mn=34±6, n=10; gabbroic eucrite low-Ca pyroxene Fs47.1±3.7Wo4.7±3.7, Fe/Mn=36±6, n=8, basaltic eucrite augite Fs44.3±11.0Wo27.0±12.6, Fe/Mn=34±1, n=3; basaltic eucrite pigeonite Fs62.9±1.2Wo6.6±1.9, Fe/Mn=33±2, n=3; plagioclase An89.3±2.5Ab10.2±2.3Or0.5±0.2, n=6. Classification: Achondrite (howardite) with three lithologies: 1) diogenite, 2) unequilibrated gabbroic eucrite with zoned pyroxenes, 3) equilibrated basaltic eucrite. TKW is only 109 grams, so after type specimen and cut loss, there is only a small amount of this material available. I've listed 10 pieces tonight and will list a dozen or so more tomorrow. Free shipping on orders over $100. I have put photos on Flickr. In the past I have marked sold specimens in the description. This has created some confusion. From now on, as items sell, I will remove the picture of the sold specimens. Price is $20 per gram for a limited time. [meteorite-list] NWA 8184 and armored chondrules
Greetings listoids and listettes, I just acquired a new specimen of NWA 8184 (thanks Tomek Jakubowski). It is a beautiful L3.7 and contains a plethora of armored chondrules. More than I've ever seen in any other meteorite. Something I haven't seen before is a BO chondrule with FeNI running through the Olivine. Please see images at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157646327000960/ Please excuse the picture quality, there is no sunshine here today and that's generally how I get my best photos. Greetings List, A few additions (Agoudal end cut, Allende and an Unclassified Eucrite avilable for a great price) and just in case you missed my first sale post: I'm having (at least in my opinion) a huge sale. I believe I have a little something for everyone available. If you see something you like, but don't like the price, email me and I will do my best to help you out. Many of these pieces are from my own collection, but as I said, this is the worthiest of causes. Inquiries off list please. I am IMCA member # 9020 and I offer a complete money back guarantee on all items. Links are all to Flickr. Greetings fellow enthusiasts, Has there yet been a definitive publication on the origin of NWA 7325. When first found, I remember it being suspected of being from Mercury. [meteorite-list] Ad, NWA 7955 and more
Greetings fellow enthusiasts, I have a new offering for you this week of a recently classified Polymict Diogenite, NWA 7955 and some significant price reductions on previously offered material. NWA 7955 is described as a relatively fresh fragmental breccia composed predominantly of angular diogenitic orthopyroxene grains. Minor components(5 vol.%)included basaltic eucrite clasts, coarse pigeonite and calcic plagioclase grains derived from gabbroic eucrites, chromite, ilmenite and troilite and rare angular grains of olivine. Geochemistry: Diogenitic orthopyroxene (Fs20.7Wo0.8; FeO/MnO = 33), olivine (Fa39.6, FeO/MnO =50; Fa47, FeO/MnO = 52), host orthopyroxene (Fs51.6Wo 3.1; FeO/MnO = 32), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs26.5-30.6Wo39.7-40.8; FeO/MnO = 29-35). Images here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637883098175/ (Just move your cursor over any image for weight and availability).Sold pieces will be marked in the description.) Price for this material is $20 per gram. Also available: NWA 7954 a relatively fresh Monomict Eucrite, $12.50 per gram, Images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637054980564/ NWA 7957 - C03.5 (S2,W2) $20 per gram - Images - http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637066409445/ NWA NWA 8007 - L3.2 (W1) a fresh beautiful chondrule delight. $10 per gram. I originally set the price at $15 per gram, but am motivated to sell this stone today. Contact me with a reasonable offer and it's yours. Images at - http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637073714725/ If you think my prices are reasonable, I would appreciate your purchase, if not, contact me with a reasonable offer. All specimens will be shipped in either an acrylic display case or Riker box (depending on specimen size) Free shipping worldwide on any order over $100. Jack, List members, I can't speak to finding a non crusted achondrite, but I have purchased one in the not so distant past. Originally thought to be a possible lunar, it turned out to be a Eucrite. [meteorite-list] AD; A NEW Eucrite, a CO3.5, Rumurutiite and more
Greetings List, I have a few very nice meteorites to offer, so let's get right to it. Sorry if this post is a little wordy. 1. NWA 7954 (Provisional) A nice polymict Eucrite. A single stone of only 109.6 grams. I only have 7 slices of this meteorite available. $15 per gram. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637054980564/ 2. NWA 7957 (Provisional) CO3.5 (S2,W2) A single stone of 86.1 grams, only 12 pieces available, including a nice end cut with some frothy fusion crust on the back. $25 per gram. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637066409445/ 3. NWA 147.6 gram probable Rumurutiite. I cut a 15.2 gram piece from the end of this specimen for I.D. All indications are that it is a Rumurutiite. This is an incredible looking stone! Basically 3 sided, one side shows moderate weathering, the next side is nicely flight marked in a wavy pattern that appears whitish in areas both in photos and looking at it in hand, but under 10 - 60 magnification, nothing but fresh black fusion crust can be seen. The third side is beautifully flight marked and fusion crusted as well. This stone appears very fresh. I also, upon closer inspection, found some flow lines and lipping. The interior shows brecciation, lighter colored clasts set against a dark fine grained matrix and whitish colored chondrules. Take a look even if you're not a buyer. Price is $15 per gram. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157637073714725/ I would also like to remind everyone that I still have some mind blowing slices of NWA 7989, an incredible Shock Melt Eucrite! This meteorite displays colors of brown, red, orange, grey and black. This is one of the prettiest Eucrite breccias I've ever seen! Price is $20 per gram on slices over 20 grams and $25 per gram on slices less than 20 grams. ***I will consider trades on this material***. This meteorite and the two other NWA's (except NWA ) have been expertly cut and prepared by Marlin Cilz at Montanna Meteorite Laboratory. The NWA 7989 is cut to 3mm thickness giving great size to weight ratio for your money. I also have a 72.7 gram end cut of this material and a 450 gram slab. Please contact me if interested. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157636479471674/ 4. I still have a several slices of NWA 8007 available. This is a gorgeous OC L3.2, chondruleful and colorful. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157636572967283/ I also have numerous slices of this material in the 1-5 gram range that I haven't had the chance to photograph yet. Let me know if you'd like to see those. 5. NWA 7987 OC H4 (S2,W2) Price reduced to $2 per gram on this nice H4. Images at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157636635091753/ Free shipping on any order over $100. Priority to the U.S. Specimens (other than the NWA ) will be shipped in a labelled acrylic display case and will come with an I.D. card.Paypal is preferred method of payment. Please inquire off list. Otherwise i wouldnt talk about these here. Im a experienced mineral collector since 25 years. I saw tenthousands of samples live in shops, museums and in the field and i saw much more in images. I dont need to tell, how often i watched my own collection. I do this just because i love watching and searching minerals. I read during an average day at least 5 A4 pages about minerals and rocks to learn more. Of course i have many books, among these is one of the biggest and most detailled textbooks about minerals, which was available in germany (Röslers Lehrbuch der speziellen Mineralogie), which i bought while i had an age of less than 10 years, just because the commom books became too boring. I have read every of my books during my live more then 10 times, some even so often, that they begun to disintegrate. So i think im maybe even a bit more qualified to identify minerals, than the average people, who study some years and put after this studium the textbooks in the corner and do just their jobs. And i say again, they dont look like fulgurites. Even weathered ones should show glass and especially bubbles. You say a Nasa geologist? They are not gods, they are also just humans. And most geologists are specialised to certain kinds of knowledge to do their jobs. You would wonder alot, if you would show common already identified mineral samples to a group of common geologists to let em identify these. Especially, when they not look like these in the textbooks. Has your geologist put some hydrocloric acid on your fulgurites? Or have you? Occurrences of fulgurites does not mean, that every thing with a hole is a fulgurite and does also not exclude the occurrence of wrong fulgurites. Its the same thing as with meteorites. Not every black stone in a desert is a meteorite and the occurrence of meteorites does not exclude the occurrence of wrongs. __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Hi Fred, Exactly and Wow! With your Bensour it seems that just the same had happened! Has also the black rim! My guess at the time I got it, was simply a matter of primary fusion crust (the brownish one) and secondary fusion crust (the darker one). Could it be a matter of altitude where it was formed? Speed temperature of fusion?... There we definitely have to ask our experts of aerodynamics and chemistry here. To me it's evident, because the black crust lips over the brown one, that that brown on the back must have been formed before the crust on the apex. There are going things in flight on the back of the stones remember the Tamdakht-Couscous or the 12.5kg-flat heat-shield, which had also such fragments incorporated in the skin.. Now these color-crusts with Chelyabinsk (and Tissint). Here, look, our most shocking example! Is something for Jan, Menno or Rob, Because half of the stone is almost: ORANGE! Importance : Haute Hello there, we have to share with you a pretty exciting observation. It was here already on the list, that some of you found on the first-pick Chelyabinskis places with a brownish, nevertheless fresh fusion crust. That phenomenon btw. you had sometimes also on a few Tissints, there the brown crust was even translucent (were horribly difficult to sell, because people watching the photos were skeptical, thought, they wouldn't be fresh, but weathered - and that, where no iron is present in Tissint to rust). Many of you blossomed during the last 3 months into true Chelyabinsk-experts, so please, pay attention to those two individuals and tell us your opinion: 75.45g http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_75_45_g_01.JPG http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_75_45_g_02.JPG http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_75_45_g_03.JPG 68.37g http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_68_37_g_01.JPG http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_68_37_g_02.JPG http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_68_37_g_03.JPG http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_68_37_g_04.JPG Well, baffling, aren't they? Both of them have a side, and ONLY one side, which is fully coated by the brown crust, while all other sides are black, as usual. Here: http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_68_37_g_02.JPG And here: http://www.meteoritenhaus.de/img/Chelyabinsk_75_45_g_02.JPG And you see, that the brown-side is framed all around by a lipping, which is black, hence most would therefore say, only because of the rollover-lip, that the stones are flight-oriented. At least one can say, by means of the circular lipping around the edges, that the stones had for a longer time a stable position in flight. And that the brown side is the backside, the lee-side. And what is striking, is, that the lipping overlaps

[meteorite-list] I.D. help needed (Kentland quench melt?)
Sorry if posts twice. Greetings List, Over the years searching the Kentland Disturbance I have found many shatter cones, impact breccias, melts etc. Recently I've been finding what appears to be a green melt. I'm not quite sure what is is or if it is indeed a melt from the Kentland impact. Another collector recently sold some of this material as a quench melt, but I'm still not sure that's what is is. I was hoping some of you with more experience could look at a couple of photos and give me your input. This specimen is really quite beautiful. Check out the photos even if you can't I.D. it. It was obviously in a plastic state at some point, but on cooling it has some fascinating crystal patterns. Two images are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157633412699552/detail/ Again, I would appreciate any input on this and would even welcome the opportunity to send this to anyone who specializes in impact material for a closer examination. I just returned from Russia, so I know all about the details on the ground. This is the most important meteorite fall in modern history, type is of no concern really. While prices on eBay are premium, the pieces for sale are all superb, collected in -30 -20f weather, still in deep freeze, pristine. I have seen pieces already oxidized that were thawed improperly, still covered in ice or snow, and thus beginning to rust. All the material found after 3-6 ft of snow melts will be heavily damaged. Furthermore, driving down the strewn-field, it is mostly heavy birch and pine forests, and 3 foot high grasslands, not farmland! So when that snow is gone, and that grass stands up, forget it. You cant swing a detector in that terrain. It is an LL chondrite, low metal anyway, detectors don't work well on this meteorite unless almost touching the stone. While plenty more will be found, it may not be nearly as much as what we thought (I admit I was wrong:). When the snow melts, we will see what happens, but Russian government and scientists all working on it (I was in the laboratory a week ago). If you want flawless clean unweathered material, now is the time. After the melt, it will look like a different meteorite. One an anonymous finder contacts Carl and has him send cash to a PO box. Red flag. Two the phone number is disconnected. Three the transaction was done in cash. I have to say with those three elements this would have to be a scam, someone got had. If this was a legit sale wouldn't it have been done in the correct ways via pay pal not some undercover 007 style, sending cash in the mail to a PO BOX? As for testing goes, cant Carl Agee do a terrestrial age analysis and also have a cre done which can prove or disprove this theory that someone is suggesting that Mifflin has two litholgies, which I have to say isnt the case and that these stones are not related to Mifflin in anyway from the evidence presented by Jason. Now the question is who was the scammer. I have to assume that one this scammer knew what they were doing and somehow was or is connected to the meteorite collecting world or they are really smart and picked up how to scam meteorite hunter 101. First of all they knew of Carl, two they knew of the fall, three, they knew of what a freshly fallen meteorite looks like and four the meteorite in question is a real meteorite but not from the same fall. I think the scammer is one of us or is connected to one of us just because of the circumstances of the event and that the meteorite is a real meteorite and has fusion crust. If it was a non meteoritest, I think it would have been a stone, but this was not the case it was a real meteorite in the mists of being a fake Mifflin. This is to good to be done by some non meteorite collector but again people are getting smarter these days to make some cash. But this means that this scammer would have to buy a real meteorite to turn around to sell as a fake recent meteorite fall. All I can say is if I came into this situation I would have thought the sale would have been a scam right from the start with me sending money to a PO box. Also I am glad I didn't buy this stuff I was able to buy some from Joe Kerchner which that had some drama in its self as well
Re: [meteorite-list] A New Nearby Oddball Planet
Sterling and List, Great answer Sterling, but I have a question. What if there are 10 other as yet undiscovered planets orbiting this star? Wouldn't that change the equation considerably. And why would anyone assume that the planet in question is the only mass making the star wobble? thanx, Steve Steve Witt IMCA #9020 http://imca.cc/ --- On Mon, 5/2/11, Sterling K. Webb sterling_k_w...@sbcglobal.net wrote: From: Sterling K. The mass of the planet? Well, there's a slight wobble of a star caused by the gravitational pull of the planet. The extent of this movement can be used to estimate the planet's mass as a proportion of the stellar mass - which itself is another estimate based on the star's spectral characteristics and the star's luminosity once we know the star's distance from Earth which we know by parallax and other techniques. The Hertzsprung-Russell equation (boy, I hope I spelled that right!) relates the mass of the star to its luminosity and color: http://outreach.atnf.csiro.au/education/senior/astrophysics/stellarevolution_hrintro.html So, once we have a handle on the star's mass, we can translate the wobble into what planet mass it would take to make that amount of wobble. OK, we got the mass of the planet down. Now, when the planet crosses the face of the star, it causes a tiny reduction in the strength of the light and that tiny reduction is proportional to the size of the disc of the planet compared to the disc of the star. If the star dims by 0.0001%, the the area of the planet is 0.0001% of the area of the star. And we can measure the angular diameter of the star's disc. And because we know the distance to the star, we can can calculate the physical diameter of the star from the angular diameter. And from that we can calculate the diameter of the planet in actual physical terms. And, once we have the planet's diameter and mass, we can calculate the density of the planet. All you need is a ream or two of paper and a jar of sharp No. 2 Ticonderoga pencils Yes, there is some error introduced, or more correctly, a range of answers, but that density of 11.0 is very unlikely to actually be as low as the density of iron (8-ish) and just as likely to be a higher density than a lower one. [meteorite-list] Looking for an All Sky Camera host, OT just a little
Greetings List, A little off topic, but not too much. I'm a host for an All Sky Camera through Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque, NM. I have been trying to get things set up for some time and hope to be operational within a week. The reason for my post; I'm in Lake Station, In. A camera is soon to be operational in Terre Haute, In and we need one more host to establish a good baseline . Preferably the host would be either in the Lafayette, Kokomo, In area or in or around Bloomington Il. You would have to have a PC that you can devote entirely to the camera. The software used is called Sentinel. The PC used to run the Sentinel Software must meet minimum requirements: 1 GHz Processor 1 GB Ram 500 GB - 1 TB Hard Drive CD ROM drive 1 Spare PCI slot available An Internet connection so the camera can be treated as a network. The software currently runs only on Windows machines. XP is the preferred version to run with the software. Sandia provides the camera and housing, see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevewitt/sets/72157626015869010/detail/ This will give you an idea of what the unit looks like. Sandia also provides a Hauppage Video Capture Card that installs in the PCI slot on your PC and of course the Sentinel software. It is the responsibility of the host to install the camera in a suitable location (with as much sky view as possible). Supply 110 V AC to the unit and to run a coax cable from the camera to your PC. Once everything is set up you program the system to activate above a certain light thresh hold and the system will capture any and all events. Lots of times birds, airplanes etc .etc. A good amount of meteors and hopefully on occasion a bolide event. It is up to the host to go through the events captured and weed out the garbage, of course look for entering meteoritic material. The camera housings are not all the same as you can see in the above photos and the innards vary also, but to give you a general idea, here are the specs on one system: *CCD Hi-Cam Tech HB-710E / SONY Image Device: 1/2 Interline Transfer CCD Total Pixels: 811 x 508 Effective Pixels: 768 x 494 Pixel Size: 8.4 x 9.8 Resolution: 580 TV Lines *Lens Rainbow L163VDC4P Focal Length: 1.6 ~ 3.4mm Aperture: 1:1.4 Angular Field of View: 180° x 114.1° at 1.6mm 84.3° x 55.8° at 3.4mm Iris: Auto-Iris *Housing 4 PVC pipe Flanged fittings 5 Acrylic Dome Height: around 20 tall *Internal Components Heating Elements Thermostat Air Circulating Fan All 110v AC This is obviously not a first come first served deal. The host has to be someone who will give this the proper attention it deserves. If you're interested, please contact me off list. There are already at least 3? List members who are hosting cameras. I consider it an honor to be a host and hope you would feel the same. Any questions, please contact me off list and I'll do the best I can to answer them. Thanks for your time. I think there may have been some problems last year (not certain, but ...) however this year it is my impression that absentee bids were treated as regular bids. At most, it would have been said that the current bid was absentee but the next bid would win 'in house.' Again, I do NOT remember any absentee MAX bids being given out early. Hello all, I usually stay away from these protracted discussions and am quite happy to lurk on the list. A lot of good, qualified people discussing a topic I truly enjoy: meteorites. Now, I am not interested in sparring with anyone. I just published an article in the Montreal Gazette debunking UFOs; you could substitute UFOS for anything else in the ever widening field of pseudoscience and my article would remain essentially the same. So anyone eager for my views can readily look the article up. However, my computer has recently been invaded by an avalanche of emails from this list that has *nothing* to do with meteorites or science. The basic problem is that pseudoscience is like a religion; no amount of science will ever convince its proponents. So I usually don't bother; ignorance is bliss, as they say. So those who believe in dowsing, divining rods and whatever other contraption, feel free to search with them. Think you can find meteorites, gold, diamonds, water, Jimmy Hoffa with a stick ? Go for it ! That is your business; I'm just not interested. So, could we get back to the science of meteorites, please ? To: meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Cc: Michael Fowler mqfow...@mac.com Date: Sunday, October 17, 2010, 8:03 PM Phil, Am I missing something here? You say the devices work at detecting bombs in Iraq. I suppose that means that no more bombs are getting by Iraqi checkpoints. I wonder do we live in the same world? Mike Fowler PS It's not so much a matter of doubting the dowsers, as being amazed at the arguments they put forth Hi Mike, I think the point of the article is relevant to what's being discussed here. People that know for scientific reasons that dowsing doesn't work, can't dowse because it won't work for them. Dowsing only works for the ignorant like myself and dumb construction workers and plumbers. The Iraqis believe in these devices and they work for them. And we're talking about life or death here, surely the devices work, they're staking their life on them. The experts make the exact same arguments in the article that I've heard hear. Scientific test show the devices give no better than random results, etc. etc. Everybody keeps telling them they don't work, when obviously the Iraqis know that they do work, otherwise they'd be getting blown up. Unless the Iraqis are so dumb, they're getting blown up, yet still insist on using the dowsers. If that was the case, surely the article would have reported it. This is the NY Times after all. I like at the end of the article where the naysayer can't get the dowser to work, but it works perfectly for the believer. It's like that Monty Python episode where everybody has to believe in the apartment building or it falls down. A non-believer moves in and the building starts collapse, until the believers convert him and the building goes back up. Every time he has doubts, the building starts to fall down, then he recants and the building goes back up. That's some funny stuff! And even though these guys are putting their lives on the line every day with their dowsers, they of course can't pass the fraudulent Randi's impossible requirements and cash in on his stupid million dollar con. To: Meteorite List meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Date: Saturday, August 21, 2010, 12:26 PM Hi Folks! I have some interesting news for those of you who maintain meteorite-related websites. Over the last week, I have intensively researched the google page rank of 89 different meteorite websites, including dealers. I have compared the longevity, page ranks and traffic details of these websites and complied the data into a report. This report will show the google page ranks of 100 websites (89 meteorite sites plus some benchmarks) and then give some analysis of what these pagerank numbers mean, and how you can improve your page rank. If you run a meteorite-related website or a dealer site, then your site is probably mentioned and ranked in this report. This report is 9 pages long and is available upon request for $2. If after reading the report, you don't think it was helpful or informative, I will refund your $2. Any webmaster who wants to improve their traffic or any dealer who wants to increase their sales, should see this report. If you want a copy of the report, send $2 via PayPal to - meteoritem...@gmail.com Some of you might be quite surprised (or shocked!) to see what your website's google page rank is. Also, I am offering my cutting and polishing services to any meteorite collectors who have stony or stony-iron specimens in need of cutting. Perhaps you want a specimen sliced, windowed, or a type specimen removed for classification. As long as your specimen is no bigger than 3-inches at it's widest dimension, I can cut it. I have cut and polished specimens for other dealers and several collectors, and I can provide references and photos of my work on request. I can do just cutting without sanding, or I can sand/polish all the way to 1500 grit and beyond, for a true glassy-smooth finish. See this link for more info about cutting - http://www.galactic-stone.com/product/meteorite-cutting-services-i-cut-your-meteorite Currently I am offering 25% OFF every specimen in my store, just use coupon code sale at checkout to get the discount. :) See the newest specimens here - http://www.galactic-stone.com/products/brand-new/?page=1s=newest Unclassified stony specimens - http://www.galactic-stone.com/products/nwa-unclassified Exclusive Riker box displays - http://www.galactic-stone.com/products/riker-box-displays Also, check out the new Meteorite Top Sites List - increase your website traffic for free! - http://meteorite.gotop100.com/ Feel free to contact me offlist with any questions or requests - meteoritem...@gmail.com Thanks for looking and have a great weekend! Re: [meteorite-list] Iron meteorite inclusion question
Yinan, Mike, I had a slice of Odessa years back that I had etched with Ferric Chloride and the process turned to otherwise brassy looking Troilite nodules a dark gray to almost black color. The Schreibersite remained nice and sparkly. I had the specimen re-etched with nitric and got my nice brassy look back again. From what I understand you can get around this by painting the troilite inclusions with a clear lacquer before etching with ferric and then remove the lacquer with acetone or some such solvent afterwards. That's definitely Troilite. I've heard you can brighten it up with a pencil eraser, but use caution, as it scratches easily.
