Re: [meteorite-list] RES: Quartz on meteorites

2017-09-25 Thread Abdelfattah Gharrad via Meteorite-list
Hello all and thanks for answers and it's nice to have more idea and learning
from all.

if we see grains of quartz stuck on a stone so this stone is not meteorite?

a stone that I had the opportunity to see mottled with quartz grains (SiO2) and
it is a meteorite analyzed as H6 chondrite by Prof. Carl Agee

Physical characteristics: TKW: 571 g. Dark brown exterior, saw cut reveals fine
grained oxidized brown interior with fine weathering veins.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) SEM, EDS, EMPA. Microprobe examination of a
polished mount shows olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, plagioclase, few small, <500
micron, extensively equilibrated chondrules, ubiquitous troilite, oxidized
kamacite, and weathering veins .

Mineral compositions and Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Wilson, UNM) EMPA.
Olivine Fa19 Fe/Mn=42, low-Ca pyroxene Fs17 Wo1.4 Fe/Mn=24, plagioclase Ab81.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6), moderately weathered.

Specimens: Oakes holds the main mass, 22.9 g including a probe mount on deposit
at UNM.

Best regards,
Abdelfattah.

A few meteorites do contain rare grains
 of SiO2 including tridymite,
 quartz and cristobalite, but generally
 these grains are quite small
 and intergrown with other silicate
phases. Some IVA irons contain a
few blades of trydimite, but if you see
a rock with several percent or
more of quartz grains that are
millimeter size or larger, it will not
 be a meteorite.

I really thought that ureilites are a good example to help learn more about the
age of the planet earth? is this right please?
the carbon crystallized on ureilites can give an idea of the age for the long
time of its crystallization.
But, there is a difference of ureilites (kind of ureilites like eucrites ...
etc). So what kind of ureilites that have ancient characters?

Also when you place an advertisement here you will need to

there is some one who can give a explanation about the formation of the

these are meteorites that have criteria of chondrites and also achondrites

also the mineralogical content ( diamand ) and their structure hard to cut.

Re: [meteorite-list] Ureilite Formation

2014-10-06 Thread Abdelfattah Gharrad via Meteorite-list

Thanks Bernd for your answer.

I was thinking about this type of meteorites and I think they are unique and
it's like a kind of transition from a kind of chondrite-rich of carbon to
primitive achondrite with absence of chondrules and high magnetism (pressure
and temperature) . what let me to post this question on the list so I find that
ureilites are typical.

this my opinion. I am not graduated on this field but always we want to learn
as everytime some thing new appear and also we want really know about the
meteorites.

I thank all the people whom writed me to guide me and share with me their
information.

Thanks again,
Abdelfattah.

 Hello Abdelfattah and List,

In 1992, C.A. Goodrich wrote a very comprehensive paper
 about ureilite
formation. If you have access to this invited review, I
 strongly advise you
 read it:

 GOODRICH C.A. (1992) Invited Review - Ureilites: A critical
 review
 (Meteoritics 27-4, 1992, pp. 327-352).

It is almost impossible to explain in just a few words how
 these coarse-grained, ultramafic, highly fractionated,
igneous rocks were formed. Mrs. Goodrich was
well aware that ureilites have some primitive
 characteristics that are difficult to
reconcile with extensive igneous processing. Among these
 are:

 1) metal with high abundances of trace siderophile
 elements,
 2) carbon which contains planetary-type noble gases;
 3) the oxygen isotopic signature of
 primitive/unequilibrated
     solar system materials.

Both (1) and (2) are typical of undifferentiated, chondritic
 (!) materials but in
terms of mineralogy and lithophile element chemistry
ureilites are absolutely non-chondritic. They rather
resemble ultramafic rocks from the Earth and Moon.

Moreover, the presence of noble gases in near-chondritic
 abundances is difficult
to explain because gases are expected to be lost at high
 temperature. This is
especially difficult to explain because none of the other
 major achondrite types
contain noble gases in chondritic or near-chondritic
 abundances.

So you probably understand that there is no easy answer to
 your question
but I am sure Mrs. Goodrich’s Review will “emlighten”
 you!

 Best regards,

 Bernd

I agree entirely with you John.

I see almost daily on the MetList people selling all kinds of rare
classifications, not just ureilite, but also carbonaceous, like, just a
few weeks ago, CM, CO, and even a CO3.2!!  not just CO, or CO3, but
CO3.2
This is outrageous, and ridiculous. There is no way to tell a
classification that precisely without a lab, an electron microprobe,
and an expert meteoriticist reading the results.
To me this is totally unacceptable, and I most certainly would not buy
that. In fact I do not even buy without proper provenance!
Maybe I am difficult, but I'd rather say that I am very careful, and I
want to protect, not just me but my clients too.

Anne and list,

This has always perplexed me.
How man people make a claim of a classification, particularly a rare
one, without classifying it?  Then every time I ask them about price,
they expect me to pay the going rate for that classification on ebay?
It has never made sense to me, and frankly, it has kept me from wanting
to buy more specimens of this sort, because I feel like my chances of
being multiply.
Hope you are all well.
Cheers,
John

Frankly I don't care who it is for sale to, what I want to know is:

How do the seller know that it is a ureilite?
Has it been classified?
And by who?

And No, I am certainly not buying without that information.

S schergotite
N nakhla
C chassiny
M morroconaite /Saharanite

This is not something we should argue about a new groups
need a new names SNCM

So who is giving names now
NASA or nomcom or who

I would realy that this be considered
Anne
BB was a nickname for black beauty
It was called so before dr carl agee analyse it
Than it become basaltic breccia what a coincidence

Maroccoite is also close to the mineral Marokite (CaMn2O4) already
named to honor the occurrence (Morocco or Maroc in French)

Berberite carry many favorable arguments however that name is very
close to the mineral Berborite (a BERyllium BORate)...

But I agree the NWA countries should be honored.
Other suggestions ?

 Jeff,

Now that you are at NASA you can appreciate the perverse things people
do with words just to come up with a cool acronym. Making the new
Martian meteorite acronym even half way cool requires some drastic
measures, like giving NWA 7034 Basaltic Breccia Black Beauty a new
name based on locality: I propose saharaite. So we now have the
 meteorites from Mars or SCANS

 S: shergottite
 C: chassignite
 A: ALH 84001
 N: nakhlite
 S: saharaite

 Enjoy!

 SNCPB?

If we use the N from NWA instead of B, and the A from ALH, how about
 CANNS?

Or maybe we should just do the sensible thing and call them Martian
 meteorites?

Hi Martin,

Here is an excerpt from our noble gas abstract for NWA 7034, Cartwright et al.:

We obtain T3, T21 and T38 ages of 5.1 Ma, 11.4 Ma and 5.4 Ma
respectively. The older T21 age may result from heteorgeniety of
target elements like Ca and Mg within the breccia. T3 has little
dependency on chemical composition (and T38 also less than T21), and
with elevated 4He concenrations, perhaps 3He loss was minimal, and
thus this age real. A CRE age 5 Ma is older than observed previously
for shergottite CRE ages, though the 11.4Ma age is similar to Nakhlite
/ Chassigny CRE ages.

So it's not carved in stone quite yet...

 Hi Greg,

The NWA 7034 main mass is the original ~320g single stone Black
Beauty that I started working on back in August of 2011. For a while
I thought it was the only one in existence, but over the past few
months more stones, all smaller than 320, have been recovered. The two
additional stones that I have personally inspected are 107.5g and 65g.
So that is 492g, plus the 84g pairing NWA 7533 (which by the way is
geochemically identical to NWA 7034 and clearly from the same
meteoroid). I have recently seen photos of additional stones, so you
are correct that the Black Beauty TKW is probably a bit more than 1kg.
When the dust settles, I hope to revise the NWA 7034 write-up in
MetBull and list the TKW. Personally, I think it is very confusing to
have a bunch of NWA# pairings, when all these stones are so clearly
pieces of the same rock, they are unlike any other meteorite both in
  hand sample and geochemically.

By the way, we will be presenting new data at LPSC (not in the Science
paper) on noble gases that have been measured in NWA 7034, which are a
match for Viking measurements of Martian atmosphere. Also the cosmic
ray exposure age is likely ~5 my, the size of the NWA 7034 meteoroid
in interplanetary space (before Earth entry) is estimated at diameter
~50 cm, so anyone hoping that there are many 10s of kg of Black Beauty
on the ground in the Saraha will be disappointed.

  Thanks,

  Carl Agee

It is nice, but I don't see why it would be much more valuable than say Nakhla
or Shergotty.

 Hello Listers

I was wondering, will this meteorite ever be sold on the open market or has
 it
be donated to science already because of its rarity? And if so, what would be
 the
value? I mean in science terms, this find could have a few billion $ value or
 more cause
that is how much it would cost to build a rover that could bring back a
 sample like
 black beauty from Mars

[meteorite-list] VERY SAD NEWS

2010-04-22 Thread abdelfattah gharrad
Dear list members,

I want to inform you that Mbarek Ait El Caid was dead today I had this bad news
from a friend of Rissani.

Mbarek is a serious and honest confidant man who helped the science in field of
meteorites. the majority of meteorites that have the scientific, collectors and
dealers coming  from this person.

and I think many people know Mbarek or heard about him and specialy those who
have visited Morocco.

Mbarek is a person well experienced in meteorites. the world of meteorites has
really lost a wise man and the active tillering person.

I do not know what to say about this person. He has a good and exellent
performance. I worked with him for years.

( INA LI ALLAH WA INA ILAYHI RAJIOUNE) we are all to GOD and to GOD we return.

Cheers,
Abdelfattah.

2010-01-12 Thread abdelfattah gharrad
Salame ya sadiki Nelson,
Iam ok God thanks hope all is ok with you too and yours.
this my meaning:

when the earth and skys were attached (BIG BANG) I thought there was a
connection between meteorites bathing in space and this phenomenon it's my
thought but there is a relationship. if not what is the origin of these
meteorites and what kind of differentiation is based their difference from each
other.

Best regards,
Abdelfattah.

exactly understand what you mean here please. I don't
 follow the
ex-coherence. Do you mean are the earth and sky attracting
 the meteorite?
The actual attractton of the earth (and sky) is what brings

will be able to say that the interior of a meteorite

these degrees with the falling speed what gives aspect
different to the stone and formations from the

if there were a resemblance of some criteria of

the meteorites had the same processes of fusion and
