Last week I noted that there were 9 instances of two meteorite falls
occurring on the same day since 1865. I found my data on these so here they
are:

1. Aug. 25, 1865 - Aumale, Algeria (L6) and Shergotty, India (Martian)
2. Aug. 28, 1925 - Ellemeet, Netherlands (Diogenite) and Lanzenkirchen,
Austria (L4)
3. Aug. 8, 1933 - Sioux County, USA (Eucrite) and Repeev Khuyor, Russia
(Iron)
4. Sept. 17, 1945 - Atoka, USA (L6) and Soroti, Uganda (Iron)
5. Sept. 21, 1949 - Akaba, Jordon (L6) and Beddgeler, Wales (H5)
6. Oct. 20, 1951 - Manych, Russia (LL3.4) and Yambo, Congo (H5)
7. Oct. 30, 1994 - Devri-Khera, India (L6) and Lohawat, India (Howardite)
8. June 21, 2002 - Kilabo, Nigeria (LL6) and Thuathe, Lesotho (H4/5)
9. March 1, 2009 - Carterville, USA (chondrite) and Nkayi, Zimbabwe (L6)

Additionally, in two instances, falls occurred on the same day but in the
same area, and are assumed to be from the same fall. They are:

Sept. 26, 1939 - Glabggang, Indonesia (H5/6) and Selakopi, Indonesia (H5)
Both fell near Bandung
Nov. 13, 1952 - Galim (a), Cameroon (LL6) and Galim(b), Cameroon
(EH3/4-an)Rubble Pile??

Enjoy,

Frank

Hello List,
If you are looking for the same day but different years then you can
use this service.
It is a bit outdated statistic based on MetBase data. MetBase has a
day of fall/find and MetBull doesn't. That's why not all the recent
falls are listed. But still you can play with this to see how many
falls/finds where recovered the particular day. Just choose the day
and check: http://sv-meteorites.com/play_with_statistic.aspx Best regards,

half after the Repeev Khutor iron landed just north of the Caspian Sea. I
think Kilabo and Thuathe fell about 5 hours apart. Cheers, Frank On Friday,

Jbilet Winselwan26°40.044’N, 11°40.637’W

Morocco/Western Sahara

Found: 24 May 2013

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2)

History: (H. Chennaoui Aoudjehane, M. Aoudjehane, A. Laroussi, A.
Bouferra) In early June 2013, A. Bouferra, a meteorite hunter from Smara,
reported a new carbonaceous chondrite that had been found close to Smara.
Due to its proximity to Smara (7 km), many meteorite hunters visited the
area in the summer of 2013.

Physical characteristics: Total mass is estimated about 6 kg, with small
and complete pieces between 3 and 10 g, a few medium-sized pieces 10 to
200 g and rare big pieces 200 g. The largest sample is ~900 g. Fresh
looking fusion is crust present on many fragments. Some fragments are
wind ablated. Some cracks contain secondary, crystalline alteration
products. Interior of stones is black and peppered with chondrules.

Petrography: (R. Hewins, MNHNP, L Garvie, ASU). The meteorite contains
chondrules and fragments of Types I and II. These include BO-PO, formerly
metal-rich, and olivine-pyroxene Type I chondrules. Type II chondrules
with forsterite relict grains are present. There are regions packed with
chondrule material and coarse PCP, and zones with scattered chondrule
material in fine-grained matrix. Chondrule sizes range up to 1.2 mm,
though most are around 200 μm. A few CAIs are 800 μm. Powder x-ray
diffraction shows a strong 0.7 nm peak for serpentines, a broad but
weaker peak around 1.3 nm corresponding to smectites, and a weak broad
peak consistent with tochilinite.

Geochemistry: (R. Hewins, MNHNP) Olivine is Fa0.98±0.44 and Fa25-40.
Pyroxene is Fs2.6±1.5 and Fs40-61. Rare kamacite with 5.8 wt% Ni is
present. (P. Cartigny, IPGP) The oxygen isotopic compositions of two
pieces were determined as δ18O 3.811±0.09 and 5.851±0.016,
δ17O -2.446±0.040 and -0.601±0.026, respectively. Δ17O values are -4.441
and -3.663, mean -4.052.

Classification: The oxygen isotope compositions, petrography and mineral
compositions are all consistent with CM2

Specimens: 17.8 g MNHNP, 17.4 g FSAC provided by L. Labenne, 20 g UNM
provided by G. Fujihara, 122 g ASU provided by Farmer. Other collection
masses include: Farmer 2.6 kg, Labenne 1.6 kg, T. Jakobowski 512 g, G.
Fujihara 358 g, M. Ouzillou 173 g.

Best regards

Martin

Team Meteorite:

In the last hours many list contributors have opined on the
'worth/value' and predicted availability of this latest and greatest
meteorite fall occurring in Russia.

Like every collector, I wish to eventually own a piece of the
Chelyabinsk meteorite, who's dramatic escapade was captured so many
times by dash-cams installed by drivers dedicated to thwarting the
mischievous. Thanks to corrupt cops, really, really bad drivers and
suicide-bent pedestrians, we have a library of video unrivaled in
history. Some will argue (mostly sellers of meteorites) that this is a
'one off' event, and any specimens offered today demand a premium.

This is true.

Until the next time.

As with stocks, real estate, Van Goghs and flea-market hubcaps, most
of us want to 'buy low' even if we never intend to sell. Certainly,
those who pay $50 or $70 or $1,000 a gram today will not love and
respect their personal specimen as much a couple of years from now if
they see dealers offering kilos of the same material @ $1/gram, Buy
one get one free'.

OK. I probably exaggerate.

This we know. The MetBull predicts a TKW of 100-500kg. That's a
whole lot of weight to move when offered on eBay as 0.12 gram micros
starting at .01 cents, no reserve.

As noted by a list member, and in a scary sign carelessly edited out
of 'Revelations' confirming that the Apocalypse is near, Mike Farmer
(his real name) agrees with Steve Anold (likely an alias) that Russian
customs officials demanding your pay-pahs, please coupled with
slushy snow will keep the pristine specimens, even the
teeny-bit-of-rusty W=1 pieces off of the market, making for a 'firmer'
price this moment until ?

Steve articulates well his way around 'roll overs' and Michael has
been there, done that, and his opinion demands respect.

So I'll guess that for now, we best defer to these sound arguments.

But marketing forces always prevail. The Russian border is porous.
Capitalism will yet again raise its Keynesian head over the heavy fist
of communism in the form of contraband. The Cossacks will ride again.

And as interest wanes, and customs officials become less interested in
what LEAVES Moscow and more interested in taxing imported flat screen
TV's, every Russian dealer arriving in the 'free world' will be
competing with his brethren price-wise (and for those hopers and
dreamers, nothing is 'free' in the 'free world', that's an ironic
political slogan).

And for sure, any material brought to Tucson will never return to the
Fatherland.

Or Motherland, whatever.

So

For our fun and your profit, I will offer a prize to the person that
publicly, on this very list, CORRECTLY PREDICTS THE AVERAGE PRICE PER
GRAM of all types of Chelyabinsk specimens (average price determined
from individuals, slices, primary crusted, secondary crusted,
uncrusted, frags, oriented, disoriented, rollover lips, roll-under
lips, hot lips, hot lips with holes, hot lips with facial decoration,
oriented-with-holes-and-rollover hot lips, etc.) AS DETERMINED by my
bi-annual survey of all qualified dealer's websites. AND, in case I
need a tiebreaker, you MUST also mention how many dealers will offer
this as sales inventory, both estimates as published on the internet
by midnight calculated from my house in the mango grove, November 30,
2014.

Example - US$5.25/gram, 18 dealers.

Your prizes will be a copy of The Global Meteorite Price Report -
2015 as prepared by me, at least a $15 value depending upon the
demise of the US$1, AND an ebook copy of The Art of Collecting
Meteorites, presently on Amazon for $9.99 which just happens to
describe the economics of meteorite pricing on p 70-71- When to buy.

FYI - I am the messenger, not a genius in solving this 'pricing/value
equation'. Nininger, Norton, Foote and Wulfing were my references.

But hey, take a chance, win a prize, everyone likes a prize,
especially when they don't even have to purchase a lottery ticket!
Maybe there IS something FREE in the 'free world'.

So the gauntlet is thrown.

Contest entries must appear publicly on this Meteorite-Central
bulletin board by midnight, Easter night, March 31 Eastern (USA)
Daylight Savings Time to be considered.

Limited to one entry per household. In case the winner 'expires'
before the contest ends, his/her heirs/next of kin will be awarded the
prizes. All taxes, duties and baksheesh are the responsibility of the
winner. By submitting entries, contestants from Italy agree to play
fair and accept the decision of the judge, me. Contestants from the

any of thesespecimens are considered stolen by Police and having them in
hands
will link to serous crimes.

we will email the story and the kind of evidences witch have been collected.

The robbery is evident and definitly prouved.

The extortion is indefensible. Witnesses, emails and papers prove it.

Re: [meteorite-list] What private collector has the most localities?

2012-03-22 Thread Jan Woreczko - www.meteoritica.eu

Ha
I have a ~150 kg in 1000 specimens, an average of 150 g per specimen, which
is not bad ;-).
But also because of the money I have a lot of micro specimens. But nothing
is forever and has a collection can be increased by increasing the size of
specimens. ;-))

While I have over 300 individual meteorite finds and falls in my collection,
many of them are tiny, in the pea or smaller size range. Space and price are
both considerations, especially on the rare ones. I don't have more than a
dozen that will not fit in a 1 square gem jar.

Hello List,

Back to this subject.

I just created a small webpage where you can play with such kind of
statistic:

http://www.encyclopedia-of-meteorites.com/FallsByTimePeriod.aspx

All data are from EoM database:
http://www.encyclopedia-of-meteorites.com

Enjoy!

Subject: [meteorite-list] Last Night I sold My 25,000 Meteorite Specimen!

Hello All...

Not that this means much in the scheme of thingsbut as far as my
business goes it is pretty amazing.
Last night my ebay auctions concluded for the week and I sold my 25,000th
meteorite.
I keep fairly accurate records and the number of 25,000 is for meteorite
specimens that have a collection card with them.
Some other interesting tidbits... I started selling in 1997. I was the
third person to start selling meteorites on ebay. I have never had a
personal website (Unless you count my ebay store).

Now, my question is WHERE ARE ALL THOSE SPECIMENS NOW?
Best Wishes
Michael
