Hi, I don't know if Creston is a bargain or over priced at $300. Only time will tell. However, Novato another recent California common chondrite fall would be quickly bought up if it was offered at $300 a gram. I know, I would be doing the buying. Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices
I was just accused of making a big deal out of nothing. My response is that the BLM is very aware of what is happening with meteorites found on public land. We had a BLM agent approach us in Pahrump, Nevada and ask us what we were doing. He was asking leading questions like," how much are these meteorites worth?", "what price do get for these things?" and "how much have you collected?" Fortunately, our team did not fall for the trap. Everybody answered, "they have no commercial value whatsoever and we do not intend to sell any of our finds." I was wondering why gold mining operations call meteorites "curious metal rocks." It is because most of these operations have claims on public land. They are not interesting in jeopardizing their operations by selling meteorites or artifacts. They are discarded or buried as quickly as possible. A single artifact find can shut down a construction site indefinitely until archeologists can map out the area. In the meantime, they will not even utter the words "artifact" or "meteorite." State owned land and parks followed the federal laws and made them even stricter. Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices
Gold collectors are paying only $30.00/gram for gold since we are talking about natural gold, not bullion. Crystalline gold specimens go for twice this amount. I can sell it as quickly as it is produced since gold is very liquidable and is in very high demand. I put a few samples on eBay mainly for advertising purposes since it lets prospective buyers know that I have some available. Like anything else offered on eBay, gold goes for below spot prices. It is not up to me to justify prices. Like you said, it is a matter of supply and demand. Lets see how long the $300.00/gram price stands up for an L6. Are people actually paying (speculating) $300.00/gram for a possible L6? This is ten times the price of gold! Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices
Maybe I should dig out my meteorite and collectables inventories from deep storage since it looks like the market has fully recovered and then some if this new fall is a real indication. Give me a break, $300.00/gram for an ordinary chondrite? The price has gone up quicker than my health care premiums which increased by 25% in one year. I think it is time to shut down my mining and mineral operations and go back to dealing meteorites since an L6 fall is now worth 10 times the price of gold., Adam - Original Message - From: "Ruben Garcia" <rubengarcia85...@gmail.com> To: "Raremeteorites" <raremeteori...@centurylink.net> Cc: "Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com" <meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com> Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2015 7:27 PM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices Hi Adam, Simply put, it is the law of supply and demand. Please ask Mike what it cost him to go find it...It was NOT free! He said it cost him plenty!. I'll let him elaborate if he cares to. Additionally he said he missed his family and is leaving tomorrow. So far - today as we speak - only 4-5 slices are available as the rest has already been sold. This fall is not for everyone - it couldn't be - as there was only 59 grams worth of slices to go round. I emailed universities last night and gave them first shot at owning a slice. Many of them acquired specimens and were happy to do so. Since about half was taken at the university level that leaves only about 30 grams worth of slices for collectors. Supply and demand. If you want a slice of Novato (L6 ) or Monahans (H5) it will cost you $1000 per gram. Now you may not want to pay that. If so, fine, it's not for you. Don't buy it.. If you want some of my gold, you can get a better price by bidding on it like everybody else. I do have a one ounce world class crystalline 22k gold nugget that showed up in my high banker a few months ago that is now in my eBay store for a mere $2,295.00 if you are interested. A little know fact is that Gold nuggets of one ounce or better are rarer than diamonds of five carats. The larger the nugget, the more over bullion value it is worth. It is the complete opposite with meteorites: Usually the greater the TKW, the lower the price. GOLD NUGGET - WASILLA, ALASKA -29.1 GRAMS - MUSEUM WORTHY http://r.ebay.com/JA81E0 I was working some pay dirt Saturday and came up with a 15.9 gram gold thumper nugget. I already have over a dozen takers once I decide to sell it. Like any other collector, I want to enjoy it for awhile first. My comments were coming from a collectors standpoint however I do believe in a free market so I wish you well on your $300.00/gram endeavor. Adam. There is plenty of parking for the mobile meteorite command center. The strewnfield is large and endless roads and vineyards. Come on up. It's not far from you. Far more money than gold. Re: [meteorite-list] [IMCA List] Creston new fall prices
I appreciate the invite but the original Mobile Meteorite Command Center lasted one season before being retired six years ago. It seemed like a good idea at the time but real life field conditions proved otherwise. The 120 degree temperatures out here in the desert were causing panels to expand and contort. Fiberglass expands at a different rate than plastic and wood so components would pull loose or pop off. Team Lunarrock eventually upgraded to an all metal Airstream with stainless steel interior. We could not keep the inside temperature below 90 degrees even with beefed up air-conditioning units making it like sleeping in an oven. Dirt roads and trails are no place to be pulling trailers. I cannot tell you how many shocks and springs we broke trying. The second command center now sits in a member's driveway being used as storage. Finally, we got smart and went with safari type rooftop tents and trailers without axles designed to be pulled behind Jeeps. I will stick to gold for now since it helps pay the bills. The last meteorite hunting trip I went on a few weeks ago didn't produce anything other than a military rocket nose fairing packed with electronics which we left in situ. I was afraid to pick it up since I didn't know if contained explosives or not but did manage to take some pictures of it. We also found some aircraft flare clips. It was still worth the six hour drive to get out of the house for a weekend and visit with some friends.
