2014-11-10 Thread E.P. Grondine via Meteorite-list
Hi all -

Used copies of my book "Man and Impact in the Amerficas" have been going for
around $20.
There are now several copies from the last powwow season going for as low as
$13.
If you ever wanted a cheap copy, now is probably a good time to buy.

good hunting,
Ed

[meteorite-list] AD(sort of): Need advice on broken Nininger meteorite

2012-11-08 Thread Mendy Ouzillou
I have a 19.66g thick slice of Potter that was broken into 3 pieces during
shipment. Thanks to an eBay listing, I now realize it has a Nininger number
on it: 476.277. I am planning on selling it, but would like advice on the
best way to move forward. Glue it back together or leave it as is?
Thanks,
Mendy

[meteorite-list] AD (sort of) - Will Trade 1000-watt Xantrex Inverter for meteorites

2010-01-01 Thread Galactic Stone & Ironworks
Hi Folks,

I have been buried under an avalanche of impending medical bills, so I
am dragging a few things out of storage to liquidate. This inverter
was purchased to provide power for the "Bolide Bus" (an RV I am
building to chase meteorite falls), but that project is now on
indefinite hold. So I no longer need this inverter. This inverter is
brand-new and has never been used or installed. It has been removed
once from the factory box for inspection. I paid $375 for it about a
year and a half ago. I will offer it as trade towards meteorites
that I can resell or I will sell it for cash. (or a mix of cash and
meteorites)

This inverter has a 1000-watt capacity and has a 3-stage float
charger. It's perfect for RV, Marine or off-the-grid applications.

Here is a web-link to some specifications on it (Xantrex HF 1000) -

http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/257/p/1/pt/8/product.asp

West Marine sells these for $475 - http://tinyurl.com/y9c24m8

I'm motivated to sell, so I will let this go at a substantial discount.

Contact me off-list with any offers - meteoritem...@gmail.com

Thanks for looking and Happy New Year!

MikeG

PS - I have photos available on request.

[meteorite-list] AD (sort of): Los Angeles - Diabasic Shergottite

2009-09-11 Thread Robert Verish
More of a heads-up here:

Going to cut some specimens from my LA mars rocks for some researchers.
If you have been waiting for the next piece of Los Angeles to come onto the
market, NOW is the time to contact me, while they are still in the saw-vise.
Don't know when I'll be cutting samples again.
So, contact me off-List with your size/shape weight/cost requirements.

[meteorite-list] AD (sort of) - Online store glitch fixed.

2009-03-08 Thread Michael Gilmer

Hi folks!

This is just a quick notice to let everyone know that the glitch in
my online store has been fixed. Some of you were having problems
using the checkout and shopping cart function on the Galactic
Stone website. There was a problem with how I setup the store,
and I corrected the issue. Everything works properly now.

List members please use the "metlist" coupon code at checkout for a
15% discount off the total order. :)

I apologize for any inconvenience this error may have caused.

Best regards and clear skies,

MikeG

[meteorite-list] AD (sort of) : Rare Russian Meteorite Texts (English Translations) for sale soon.

2008-09-28 Thread Michael Gilmer
Hi fellow meteorite aficionados and bibliophiles!

Recently, I bought a lot of books from an estate sale liquidator. These books
(over two dozen of them)
contained several astronomy and cosmology titles I have been searching for,
some Asimov titles (a fave of
mine) and some interesting meteorite books.

These books are currently on their way to me. I plan on selling some of the
meteorite texts.

In particular, there are 3 meteorite titles that lay outside my interests.
After searching the web for
more information about them, I have determined that they are quite rare. These
are English translations of
Russian works.

1) "The Nature & Origin of Comets & Meteors" - by Sergei Konstantinovich
Vsekhsviatskii, published
1970. 183 pages. This is a translation of the original Russian work -
"Priroda i Proiskhozhdeniye
Komet i Meteornogo Veshchestva" (1967)

2) "Meteoritics No 19" - a translation of the Russian journal Meteoritika
(Sbornik nauchnykh trudov)
200 pages. 1960. (articles on the age of meteors, tektites and silica glass,
x-ray studies of meterors, lead
content, preliminary results of 1958 Tungas expedition, more)

3) "Velocity and energy of the Tungusk meteorite" - translation of the Russian
"O Skorosti i Energii
Tungusskogo Meteorita" (Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR, 1961) - 8 pages. (academic
paper)

All of these books are graded good to excellent in condition with no major
flaws and only typical shelf
wear from very occasional usage. All are softcovers.

It is my intention to sell these books to offset my costs of purchasing the
larger lot.

Once I receive them, I will inspect them, photograph them, and offer them for
sale.

If you would like to be notified when these books become available (within the
next week or so), then
please email me and let me know. Once I get these books, I will contact any
interested parties with a more
detailed description of the books and photographs of them.

I can be reached via email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks for looking and clear skies!

MikeG

PS - I still have a mint copy of the journal MAPS (Meteoritics and Planetary
Science), volume 43, Number 4,
April 2008. I am asking $20 shipped to anywhere in the CONUS. $25 shipped
overseas via Priority Air.
Contact me if interested.

[meteorite-list] AD: (sort of) My Free Meteorite Micrograph Screen Saver Download

2008-04-05 Thread STARSANDSCOPES
Hi list, Paul (Meteorite Times) has set up a page on the Meteorite Exchange
site where you can view the images from the new cross polarized light
meteorite micrograph screen saver and download it for free.

http://www.meteorite.com/meteorite-gallery/screensaver/

It is a great page and I really appreciate all the hard work Paul has put
into my shots! Thanks Paul!

Also, I have had some interesting observations about the Mount Tazerait
inclusion micrographs (and by the way, Anne Black has some Mount T for sale on
her site http://www.impactika.com/Metlist.htm )

I did get a question about how to find the shots. Go to the Meteorite Times
Magazine
http://www.meteorite-times.com/meteorite_frame.htm
and the in the top left there is a section called "Columns", in that section
is the button for my "Micro Visions" A few people went to the Tom Phillips
Gallery and could not find "Micro Vision" in the Gallery.

If you have not seen those shots, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK! And let us know what
you think.

Thanks, Tom
