Re: [meteorite-list] Enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show Now Happening in Arizona
Anne, I do not know where you come up with your information. I doubt a room at the Ramada would every be rented out by the hour since it is a top-ten rated luxury hotel in Denver. It still has a three star rating although I would rather stay at the Ritz-Carlton. In any case, the stay at the Ramada was not cheap running about $1,800.00 which was $1,8000.00 too much in my opinion. The bottom line is that it doesn't matter what you spend. That is why the bed bug registry is a good indication. Perhaps you should look into the Tucson City Center Hotel since that is where you will be staying in Tucson. as the old saying goes "Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite" Adam showing in Tucson. - Original Message - From: "Anne Black" To: ; Sent: Saturday, January 07, 2017 11:52 AM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show Now Happening in Arizona OH! I remember that! And that was some 10 years ago. You told me about that hotel, and I told you that if you had asked me before going there, I would have told you not to go to that "hotel" and that I thought they only rented rooms by the hour considering the neighborhood! That neighborhood has improved quite a bit since then, but I don't know about that hotel, probably still very cheap. Anne M. We discovered a "four star" hotel in Denver (the Ramada) had bed bugs so you never know what you are going to run into. It ruined our entire trip so we destroyed our luggage and have never returned since. If you check the bed bug registry, you will be shocked how many hotels in Tucson are listed. We paid $140.00 a day and found a crack pipe and drugs hidden in the kitchenette oven since there were no other rooms available in Tucson at the time. Thankfully, the attendance has been dropping off every year in Tucson so you can actually get a decent room for under $100.00 a night if you shop around. Bed bug registry http://bedbugregistry.com/location/az/ For those attending the Quartzite show, I would stay in Lake Havasu that is less than an hour away or stay in a motor home which over 250,000 other attendees do. Over 250,000 attend this extremely large show so it must have something to offer. I have found everything at this show and more. As a matter of fact, the swap meet type atmosphere means better prices and more selection. I found new and used saws, polishers and other preparation equipment at a fraction of the price. I find that some of the older equipment is way better. It says something when a 50 year old saw will outlast a brand new one. I agree there are good deals on all manner of lapidary equipment and tools there. Sadly the minerals are mostly junk. But like all swap meets and junk shows there are certainly treasures that can be found as well. I always stay in Blythe but it's a craphole too. But less crappy. Just buy your gasoline in Arizona. Re: [meteorite-list] Enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show Now Happening in Arizona
It was the highest rated hotel in Denver at the time according to their online ratings and they were next to the US Mint. We wanted to tour the Mint but changed our plans after the unfortunate encounter with the disgusting vampire-like blood sucking and diseased bugs. Now we pull all of the bedding apart and shine a black light around a room before unpacking our luggage no matter where we stay. The only way to protect yourself is to wrap yourself up in a mummy type sleeping bag covered in DEET and dispose of it when your done. A lot of vendors checked their beds at other hotels that year and couldn't sleep after observing the tell-tale signs of the little blood suckers in their rooms. A women at the Tucson show was covered with bites and welts after sitting on couch for about a half hour in one of the vendor's rooms. She had no idea what had attacked her until we pointed it out. The poor woman was allergic to them so we gave her some antihistamine. If you find strange red marks or welts after entering a room, then you would be wise not to bring any items home that were exposed because it could cost you over $10,000.00 to rid your house of them. We were very fortunate choosing to leave our cloths and luggage behind after seeing these nasty things first-hand. Re: [meteorite-list] Enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show Now Happening in Arizona
Quartzite has turned into a horrible giant swap meet filed with trash. The last couple of years I've gone over there for some reason and wasted an incredible amount of time looking at trash. Very few decent mineral dealers there. Hmani is about the only one. 95% is junk. I mean really garbage people have hauled out of the dump. If you enjoy swap meets, quartzite definitely fits the bill. Don't plan on staying in a hotel there, they are all infested with bedbugs. You will have to stay an hour away in California for anything resembling clean. The enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show in Arizona is up and running. This tiny town gets over 1 million visitors a year and has eight different shows with thousands of gem and mineral vendors so it could take weeks to go through all of the material including meteorites. Vendor show fees are only $50.00 for those who want to get a head start on Tucson. It is free to buyers. I will try to attend both this year.
