Re: [meteorite-list] Get a grip....
Good evening list members, I do believe that this met-list is a very good one. There is a lot of good information and sharing going on and ads which would not be known if not for the list. 'Problem children' are everywhere and like some of you wrote, just delete. I recommend this list to every one I meet, along with my yahoo group of course ;-) I even send them the URL for it. Thank you Art, you ARE a great moderator! With best regards, Moni PS. Hope you all had a great Easter! _ Need a break? [meteorite-list] Get a grip....
Now, come on, get a grip you lot on the list - some of you are massively transgressing the boundaries of common decency. Any noobies coming to the list would be horrified to see the rubbish some of you lot put out. Get your acts together, stop this vicious bitching, act professionally, do NOT rise to ignorant comments and let's make this list an informative list, not a forum for slanging matches - Jeez, it's like bare knuckle fighting or cock baiting with you lot. Why Art doesn;t just step in and delete delete delete I do not know, but I am getting increasingly fed up with this constant verbal jousting. I want read about meteorites, anything space related, finds, ads - anything. . but not the disgusting vituperative crap I have had to see over the past few days/weeks/years get it together folks. Hi Im affraid that we need REAL admin, not virtual Texas Ranger like Art. I have seen him on the list maybe 2-3 times last years. This not enough. On normall forums, like this about computer hardware where Im registered You can be banned or warned for smaller sins than calling someone a Gay. Not topic related mails are immediatelly deleted by forum moderatos. But here is real bonanza. I can say and send everything I can and noone guarding quality of discussion on this mail-list. Thats why seweral valuable persons leaved this forum. It is for our interest to have better admin/moderator. Thats why seweral valuable persons leaved this forum. I'm subscribed to only 2 mailing lists-- this one and the paleolist. On this list, people act like they know each other, care about each other's interests and lives off-list, often get chatty about topics that stray from strictly meteorite-related and yes, often bicker with each other. On the paleolist, if anyone says anything that strays off-topic, with even one reply, highly uptight people bitch, threaten to quit the list, and sometimes do. The meteorite list ends up with tens of messages a day. The paleolist goes days at a time without a single post with only a few threads getting many responses at all. It is a mostly dry, mostly empty environment. And the odd thing is, Geoff isn't more heavy-handed in moderation than Art-- it is other list members who seem to have an inflated ego (I'm too important to waste my time reading these messages-- either they go, or I do). Of the two lists and two posting/poster styles, I like the meteorite list the best. It is a community, not a interactive search engine. __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] Get a grip....
I'm reluctant to wade in here, but I was thinking exactly this earlier too. The idea of the list self regulating just doesn't work. People mouth off all the time, because they always get away with it. Some stricter moderation and the majority of problems would be solved. Once it is made clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated, then most reasonable people will modify their own posting habits (if necessary) and those that do not can be removed. I don't want excessive moderation, but some standards of social decency and responsibility should be upheld. A handful of people repeatedly ruin this list for the vast majority of us. This list could (or should) be the centre of intelligent meteorite related discussion on the net (in actual fact, it seems to me there is little alternative). Unfortunately, as somebody who has spent a lot of time enthusing to others about how great meteorite collecting is, and what interesting items they are in all their variety, I would be very reluctant to recommend people to join here. That really is a sad state of affairs Matt. Re: [meteorite-list] Get a grip....
I would be very reluctant to recommend people to join here. There is nothing wrong with this List. There are a lot of members, and a lot of personalities here. As far as I'm concerned, this List is dynamic, and has life! Most of us don't need to be modded, and regulated, and have our hands constantly held to ensure our sensetivities won't be offended over a little sillyness that happens from time to time. If you want, tell me what upsets you, and I'll tell you what is safe to open. I read everything! I would recommend this List to anyone!
