Re: [meteorite-list] Happy Holidays!! And Selling Out!

2016-12-26 Thread Count Deiro via Meteorite-list
Hello Pierre and the others who have so kindly expressed their interest,

I wasn't sure how my notice that I was going to sell would be received. Now
that I see that there is interest (Thanks to you who responded and your good
wishes) I will take the time to put together a list with pictures and
provenance and asking prices.

I am not in any shape to do that myself and I have to wait for a friend who can
do most of the technical work to come back from his holidays. I estimate ten
days or so.

So I beg your indulgence and trust all understand the circumstances.

Happy New Year!

Guido

[meteorite-list] Happy Holidays!! And Selling Out!

2016-12-24 Thread Count Deiro via Meteorite-list
Hi Friends and Associates,

I have a lot to be happy for as I am still taking up space and vital resources
after surviving a near lethal heart attack October 15th. Know what it's like to
croak and I would share that it doesn't hurt, no anxiety, no pain, just slip
away into nothingness until they blast your heart back into running again and
you wake up to the sirens and poking and prodding.

What with the cancers and now the heart issues I will be liquidating my
collection now nearly every specimen bought from you all... The 2.1 gram
crusted British Museum Nakhla is gone already to a member. You have to know
when to hold them and when to fold them...as was famously sung.

A Happy Christmas/Channukah Holiday to you all and your loved ones. Best wishes
for a Happy and Prosperous New Year. I have enjoyed my association with IMCA
and the Meteoritical Society.

If anyone wants to jump on their horse and come out here and get first
dibs...be my guest. It all has to go. Over 150 specimens, plus a plethora of
books, references, scopes, tools and detectors. Sold the Jeep Grand Cherokee I
set up for hunts.

[meteorite-list] Happy Holidays to my Meteorite Collecting Friends

2011-11-22 Thread Thunder Stone

I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
too,

As there are different celebrations… some for me and some for you.

As we gaze into to the sky on Christmas night

We may see Santa's sleigh dashing in flight,

But there are other objects falling to earth

Which may have started life or created its birth.

And it's these black stones we hold in our hands,

Put on our shelves and display on our stands,

That have an attraction one cannot explain

To desire and collect, examine the minerals they contain.

So if you are wishing for one in your stocking or under the tree

Just remember the best gift of all…

are your friends and family.Greg S.

[meteorite-list] Happy Holidays to the List

2010-12-20 Thread Michael Gilmer
Seasons Greetings Listees!

I'd like to briefly thank everyone on this List for another year of
entertaining (and sometimes informative!) posts about meteorites,
meteoritics, dousing rods, UFO's, meteorite-hunting psychic animals,
Martian blood vessels, toliet plungers, eBay policy, meteorite sales
suspended until further notice, and all those other things that add
spice to the List. ;)

In particular, to those who have not blocked my email address yet(!),
thank you for tolerating me for another trip around Sol and at my
current rate of progression, I should be 10% more knowledgeable and 4%
less annoying next year.

I hope your Christmas/Yule/Hanukkah/Eid/Kwanzaa is filled with hot
food, stiff drinks, warm fires, fine cigars and good cheer. And if
you are lucky, that black rock in your stocking will be a
freshly-fallen meteorite and not a lump of coal. Although, if it is a
lump of coal, please send 10 blurry photos of it to me and ask me to
buy it - and then get offended when I decline.

According to the statistical averages of the last 10 years, we should
see 5 witnessed falls across the planet next year and we are long
overdue for another one. The last official fall was Mifflin back in
April. Maybe if we look up and see something streaking through the
sky, it will be a St. Nick bolide dropping fusion-crusted treats for
good boys and girls everywhere along the strewnfield.

My new year's resolution - regenerate my collection back to over 100
localities and manage to keep it for more than a year.. and to get
the Bolide Bus back on track. :)

Best regards and happy holidays!

MikeG

[meteorite-list] Happy Holidays from the Sonoran Desert M Hunting camp

2010-12-19 Thread U.S. Airborne

Happy Holidays from the Sonora Desert .
We got 5 hours of FOG here in the desert today, kinda strange. Only have
seen it twice before in my life.

Its been quite a long time since my last post to the list, as I had to go
back to my job teaching folks to fly

for a few weeks. I wanted to Wish you all a great and wonderfully joyous
holiday season. I also wanted to say congratulations to all the folks
that have made 1st finds lately. It is truly a out of this world feeling
finding space rocks that flew in from outer space. Kind of hard to explain
it
to folks off the street what a truly amazing thing it is. Also a big
congratulation to the

Hunters that have had there finds classified as of lately. Great job to all
of you. I finally got my Nov. Ca. find cut open she looks lovely. We have
been hunting the Sonora desert the last few weeks and I have
found some quite strange things I must say. But nothing that I can for sure
say yes it's a meteorite. I got a few that need cut looked at inside.
I just gotta say Meteorite hunting is so fun exciting to do that it really
does not matter if you bring home the space rocks on every hunt. I just love
just being out there in the middle of nowhere playing with mother nature ,
taking pics, smelling the different smells of the desert. Finding strange,
weird things trying to figure out what the heck they are. Finding strange
rocks that could possibly be a rare meteorite then researching them,
Studying the earths colors textures on Google earth then going out and
flying over it in person. Then

hunting those areas you have studied in detail. Cutting , slicing, and
polishing all my great finds. And now the excitement of getting special
finds classified by Science to see what type of Meteorite
I found. The excitement just keep growing. Now with new dreams of hunting
fresh falls from around the globe . Plus studying old falls that need to be
looked over again and again. WOW, I feel like the luckiest guy on earth.
I wanted to send a special thanks to some of my fellow meteorite hunters
for

all you have done this last year to make my journey into the world of
meteorites easer by watching videos and reading your stories of Hunts from
around U.S. and world. Out here in the desert I don't get T.V. stations to
watch. So I have now down loaded my favorite TV show onto my laptop. I now
have both seasons 1 and 2 of Meteorite Men to watch any time I wish. So a
special thanks to Robert Verish Moni, Rob Matson , Ruben Garcia, Steve
Arnold
and Geoff Notkin , Sonny Clary , Count Deiro, And John Harrison my Id M
hunting buddy. Plus my wife Terri for putting up with crazy me all the
crazy wildly fun things I love in life. There are many many more so thanks
all of you.
Happy Holidays and Happy Meteorite hunting over the Holidays . May you find
that rock of your dreams.

Thanks Sonny.
Naughty would be an understatement, if my wife found out how much I've spent
on meteorites lately! I'd have to explain that that they were all on sale.
And now I've got pretty respectable pieces of Claxton, Gujba, Peekskill,
Bondoc, NWA 5000, Lost City, and D'Orbigny. All from list members. So, I
might be a little *naughty*, but my collection is much more *nice*! g

Best wishes to all!

[meteorite-list] Happy Holidays and Peace on the List

2009-12-20 Thread Galactic Stone Ironworks
Hi Listees!

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a
Happy Festivus.

May your stockings be filled with space rocks. :)

Let's keep the bickering off the List, at least until after the holidays.

Many Moroccans are honest dealers. Some Americans are dishonest
dealers. This is a market for rare commodities, and there will always
be bad apples from every group. No group represented on this List is
immune to bad apples.

As for Steve Arnold from Chicago, the list archives is full of
messages that are pro-Steve or anti-Steve. For many people, myself
included, this is enough to prevent me from dealing with him. He
could be the nicest guy in the world, but once the doubts have been
placed in public, they never go away. There are others on this List
who have similar reputations - some of these people are on hiatus (or
have vanished entirely), and others are still operating in the open
here or on eBay. The wise buyer will do their homework on a seller
before making a purchase - so launching a new round of venom on the
List is unnecessary and distasteful.

I wish all of our space rock brothers a happy holiday season -
American, Moroccan, European, Asian, or otherwise.

Best regards, clear skies, and happy huntings,

MikeG

PS - thanks for the continued prayers. My wife is slowly improving
and should be out of the hospital before Christmas. :)

Re: [meteorite-list] Happy Holidays!

2008-12-24 Thread Sterling K. Webb
Hi, Tracy, List,

may a meteorite of your choice fall in your backyard...

The ideal wish meteorite? Hmmm... OK, it will
be the first unequivocal Mercurian meteorite, or a
Lunaite (which Randy Korotev will demonstrate came
from the Moon's farside and is a unique type).
It will strike the steel support of your TV antenna
and bounce off, smashing the edge of your roof, thus
becoming a house-smasher.
It will bound downward and strike the obnoxious
neighbor standing in your yard arguing with you a
glancing blow, thus becoming a people-striking
meteorite, not seriously harming him, but shutting him
up.
It will complete its re-entry by dealing a fatal blow
to the neighbor's yappy little dog who wakes you up
in the middle of the night; the dog becomes the first
witnessed authentic dog-killed-by-a-meteorite.
You become the sole owner of the 11.7 kg meteorite,
conservatively estimated by the market sages of the List
to be worth $1728 per gram, not mention the value of
pieces of your roof and antenna, old Band-Aids off the
neighbor, and the dead dog, of course, all eminently
collectible.
Other than getting possession of a meteorite that
strikes Santa in his sled, I don't see how you could do
better than that.

[meteorite-list] happy holidays and a new meteorite fall

2002-12-20 Thread STEVE ARNOLD
Good morning all. I just want to take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous new year. Also I just want to let everyone in on my little secret. I am getting a christmas meteorite present next week! A brand new fall from Nigeria. Less than 6 months old! It is called KALIBO! They say around 20 kilos fell, but only 7 kilos have been found. Next week I'll be the first private individual in the world to get a whole piece of it. I'll be getting a 61 gram piece. You will not here anymore about it till Tucson. It is nice to know people in secret places.
 MEERY CHRISTMAS HAPPY NEW YEAR

Re: [meteorite-list] happy holidays and a new meteorite fall

2002-12-20 Thread Eric Twelker
Hello All

This does sound like the meteorite I call Hadejia. It is currently
being classified by Institute of Meteoritics at the University of New
Mexico. Because the Met Soc has not used small villages (apparently with
variable spellings) as names, I have used the name Hadejia. Some
information, photos, and a link to the newspaper article can be found at
http://www.meteoritemarket.com/HDJ.htm

Eric Twelker

maybe it's just a typo, but I think this one's been submitted to the Met
 Society as Kilabo, not Kalibo.
Isn't this the same July 2002 Nigerian LL6 fall that's previously been known
by the working name of Hadejia?

Last month I was offered 10kg of a 21 Jul 2002 fall, LL6, under the name
Kilbu. With a little research I found the newspaper article on Eric Twelker's
site which mentioned both Hadejia and Kilbu villages. That is close enough to
the Kilabo that Rob mentioned that it was the same fall. So there is at least
10kg in addition to what Eric Twelker received.

Fellow wanted to sell it to a dealer to save myself from having to retail
it, but wanted full retail prices for it. Supposedly At this time scientists
are scooping it up at $xx.xx per gram. The speculation based on upcoming
article is that around March of htis year price will multiply manyfold
I declined and wished him good luck. Since I haven't heard anybody else
offering it recently I suppose it is still floating around out there
 somewhere.
