Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Signs Project update
The picture on Martin's submission page may be unique in showing a road sign with two meteorite names (Guffey and Cañon City). Does anyone know of any other cases where it might be possible to find a sign with two or more such locations? I can think of at least one other in this same area; I'll have to check it out. This particular sign is somewhat humorous. Even though it is an official sign placed by the state of Colorado, both town names are misspelled! There's a sign on I-40 eastbound in Arizona that has several on it... I think they're Winona and Holbrook. It's possible that there's one that says Holbrook and Grants as well. jeff At 02:49 PM 2/11/2006, Chris Peterson wrote: The picture on Martin's submission page may be unique in showing a road sign with two meteorite names (Guffey and Cañon City). Hi Chris and All, The Imilac picture has both Imilac (60km aheard) and Monturaqui (crater) (left then 25km) on the same sign. In fact, this very pic and the G/CC one were the stimulus for this project. Regarding the Guffey and Cañon City sign, those numbers are miles to the city, not dollars per gram in case you are wondering. Dear Chris, List; I am not positive but I think Mark Bostwick may offer insite, the I-40 stretch across Kansas should have two meteorite locations on an exit if I remember right...there are many named towns across the state with meteorites associated with them. Mark, what say you? [meteorite-list] Meteorite Signs Project update
Hello All, The meteorite signs have been drifting in slowly. So slowly in fact, that I have been able to easily manage the volume to the point where I can include the submitter's name along with the image. Even better, the wonderful folks at the Meteorite Exchange and Meteorite Times have provided a home for the images. As you folks send them to me, I can upload them into this photo database. http://www.meteoritetimes.com/gallery/ I would like to personally thank those who have submitted pictures, and encourage others to take some pics along your travels, or dig up the images you've already taken and send them in. Cheers, Martin Meteorite Signs Project http://www.geocities.com/planetwhy/signs.html __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
