[meteorite-list] Re: Denver show/COMETS events
Hi All I would like to announce the upcoming fall show in Denver. The official show dates are Sept. 15-17. That is only 4 weeks away. Several of the Satellite shows start a few days before the main show. Once again the COMETS will be hosting a few events. Our first event is the auction at the same location it has been at for the past few years. There will be maps at the show with directions. The auction will start at 7PM on the 16th. Anne Black will be there from noon on for anyone who wants to drop off there items or check out what items that will be in the auction. In fact we already have one submission. Hans Kosher is putting a 64kg Muoniolusta in the auction. I can't wait to see that one. We will also be having our annual Denver Show Party at LaLoma on Sat the 17th of Sept. Hopefully everyone at the show can make these two awesome events. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see lots of people there. Main Show http://www.denvermineralshow.com/ Holiday Inn. [meteorite-list] Re: Denver Museum address
Writing a cordial letter to the museum, asking for a meteorite display, could sway the thoughts of Chief Executive Raylene Decatur. The address is: Denver Museum of Nature Science 2001 Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 80005 Budget cuts have been made at the museum. This was taken from the Denver Post, Sunday edition: The cuts have even reached "Space Odyssey" staff. Curator Laura Danly was let go when she volunteered to leave rather than cut another person in her department. She had been the museum's space-sciences curator for five years. "It's wrenching. It's a tough time," Laura Danly said, refusing to comment further. The Denver Post was being polite with the above statement, as Laura Danly RESIGNED IN PROTEST, per an earlier Rocky Mountain News article. So, one letter won't do any good, a dozen letters requesting a meteorite display may get them thinking, but a few hundred would catch the museum's attention. E-mail? Better then nothing. After all, it's not like they would have to go out and buy the meteorites. You should see the Glorieta iron! A beauty. Thanks, Fred Hall
[meteorite-list] Re: Denver show info?
Hi Jamie, Welcome to Denver! One location you won't want to miss will be the International Room at the Main Show in K aisle. A South African dealer will have a very large selection of Thuathe (perhaps he'll even bring the two mainest masses) and Gibeon (including slices and spheres, some with distorted crystal patterns) and the H3 Korra Korrabes (including thin sections). I'm sure there will be additional postings about the COMETS (Colorado Meteorite Society) activities.
