Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Auctions Catalog update (AD)
Hi All, You can now see all but 2 of the items so far registered (60 so far) at: http://michaelbloodmeteorites.com/TucsonAuction08.html There is also a Printer Friendly link at the bottom of the list, but I suggest waiting until just before you leave, as I am hoping to Get several dozen more items up before the end of January. Remember, Lists in by Sunday get the 10% listing fee - and LOTS of exposure. Also, people interested in absentee bidding should begin placing Bids NOW. RSVP off list. I expect them to at least answer these questions in public. -- Hi Bill and all, Due to responses from both collectors and a few dealers (and the lack of dealer response) AND due to the fact that, indeed people at the auction can and do write down prices - often the WRONG prices (as per Mike Farmer's - at least in the instance of the piece I bid on as an absentee bidder), I will be posting results shortly. It should be noted that one of the things I mentioned may have been at play in Al's auction results is that he apparently did not mention the absentee bids at the auction, itself. This apparently contributed mightily to the inaccurate reports of prices, including Mike Farmer's report. In my own auction I always bid for the absentee bidder or have someone else do so, so the crowd in the room can bid against him (and they usually outbid him). In any event, the final price is always declared at the auction and the bidding number for absentee bidders is always in the 200s, making it clear to anyone awake that the winner was an absentee bidder. Someone commented to the effect that putting together a well organized auction of 100 pieces was child's play. They obviously have never put together an auction. In any event, I will be posting results in the immediate future, since I do not want false results posted and there has been a lack of negative response to this issue. Personally, I always would have preferred to do so - though I saw negatives in doing so, the plusses outnumbered the negatives - and in light of recent events and inaccurate rumors of prices, it is the thing to do to be clear to everyone everything is on the up and up. (I can only be responsible for my own auction, of course). Dear list members, on February 10, 2007 9:26 AM, Michael L Blood at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Someone commented to the effect that putting together a well organized auction of 100 pieces was child's play. They obviously have never put together an auction. I had the pleasure of working for Mike Blood at this years Tucson auction. When you are working behind the scenes at an auction it really is rather intimidating. It becomes readily apparent that there are any number of situations that could occur that could have an adverse impact on the auction. On the other hand, it was truely amazing to see the processes and controls Mike has in play to counteract these potential threats and ensure a good auction. Mike does make the auction process look easy, but that is due to his professionalism and hundreds of hours of hard work on his part both before, during, and after the auction. Please don't ever think that putting together and managing any auction is easy. [meteorite-list] Tucson Auctions???
Greetings. I know that this might be a little off topic these days, but I was just wondering, with only 2 months to go till Tucson that I haven`t seen any adds or anything anywhere else about Michael Blood`s Auction or The Macovich [Darrly Pitt] Auction listed anywhere? Shouldn`t we be seeing something really soon about these and also if you possibly wanted to list something in said auctions, would you contact them directly? Thanks. Dave __ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo!
