I guess you may not have too many martian or lunars.

I collect similar to you except I don't go for too many irons. Just
have a couple to show people and sxplain the broad range of meteorites.

Re: [meteorite-list] What types of meteorites do you collect?

2010-07-05 Thread Richard Montgomery
Hi Listers! While I started out with irons, naturally my curiousity
grabbed me because hold a specimen in hand and under the scope is so much
more of a learning experience. So, I trended toward CV3s, then CRs
(SaH00182 and NWA801) facinated by armoured chondrulesnow have landed on
achondrites as the most fun, LODs and eucrites. Throughout it all though,
I've favored pieces that stand up on their own, some defying gravity in the
display case!

preferences! Although I'm also very fond of carbonaceous chondrites (of
which my favorites are the more exotic primitive types: i.e. Tagish Lake and
Murchison, etc), and out of ordinary chondrites - Ls, LLs, breccias, and the
more exotic lesser known types.

I want to become a type collector.

Mike and List:

Maybe that's better:

I'm not to big on Irons - only have a few and my first was an Iron.

I favor Achondrites, the more exotic the better - I think it's so neat to see
crystals in a meteorite. I also think meteorites without metal are really
cool. The bigger the crystals - the better. I favor Mars over Lunars. I have
three mars and only one lunar.

It's such a fasinating hobby,

 Gary,

From your post it really should be What don't you collect. ;)

I guess you may not have too many martian or lunars.

I collect similar to you except I don't go for too many irons. Just
have a couple to show people and sxplain the broad range of meteorites.
Chondrites of all shorts (especially W0 unequilibrated) and HEDs. I too
 love Dho 007

 Cheers!

collect the most and are most interested in, and why?

Well, being far too scatterbrained to choose only one type, I have many
interests. I love carbonaceous chondrites, and among them CM and CVs in
particular (I love the smell of Murchison in the morning ;^)

For achondrites, I collect HEDs a lot, and love brecciated cumulate eucrites
 like Dho 007.

WIth respect to ordinary chondrites, I love any unequilibrated stone, and
type 3s of any classification float my boat.

Oh, and last but not least, I love big, regmaglyped complete irons of all
kinds. There is something about a large iron meteorite that captures the
attention and imagination of most people.

This brings up another idea for a thread:

What class or type of meteorite to you collect the most and are most
 interested it?

I myself like rare ungrouped achondrites and my favorite is the Angrites.

Re: [meteorite-list] What types of meteorites do you collect?

2010-07-01 Thread Barry Hughes
I've bought from you...I'm a newer guy and what I collect is large NWA
unclassified. I have no interest in rare small specimens, but that
may change. I'm still amazed that I own these this, and there is
nothing better than a huge meteorite to examine. I have one
especially that shows several different ancient impacts and different
materials in one slice. It makes me wonder how analysis is made
considering the 4 or5 different materials one is made up of. I'm
slowly getting into the etched metals but rocks have my attention now.
