Re: [meteorite-list] MGS Photos of the Spirit Landing Site
Hi Ron and List, Visible in the photos are the Spirit lander, the parachute and backshell Now, that is amazing! Has MGS been able to locate Beagle2, or is it just too small to image? -Walter -- www.branchmeteorites.com - Original Message - From: Ron Baalke [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Meteorite Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 23, 2004 5:04 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] MGS Photos of the Spirit Landing Site Check out these images of the Spirit landing site taken by Mars Global Surveyor: http://www.msss.com/mars_images/moc/2004/01/23/index.html Visible in the photos are the Spirit lander, the parachute and backshell, the heatshield impact, and bounce marks. Spirit actually bounced in and out of a small crater on the 4th bounce. The heatshield landed near the rim of a large crater, and it looks like it may have gone into the crater. This crater, incidently, is the same crater that the rover is slated to visit, at a distance of 250 meters away. Walter, They are trying to: locate Beagle 2, Pathfinder, image Spirit once away from the glare of Columbia Memorial Station, and Polar Lander - althought that is a very long shot to do so. Re: [meteorite-list] MGS Photos of the Spirit Landing Site
Hi Greg, Thanks very much for the information. Do you know if the orbital elements of any of the orbiting spacecraft have to be changed in order to facilitate trying to image any of the landers? Looks like Opportunity will be landing in a few minutes. -Walter -- www.branchmeteorites.com - Original Message - From: Greg redfern [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Walter Branch' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 'Meteorite Mailing List' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 24, 2004 10:52 AM Subject: RE: [meteorite-list] MGS Photos of the Spirit Landing Site Walter, They are trying to: locate Beagle 2, Pathfinder, image Spirit once away from the glare of Columbia Memorial Station, and Polar Lander - althought that is a very long shot to do so.
