2009-07-25 Thread Richard Kowalski

If these are actual pieces of Station 6, I'm glad to see that fragments of my
discovery are finally making on to the market. I understand that specimens are
finally starting to make it our of the Sudan for proper research, which is much
better than them sitting in drawers at the University of Khartoum

The largest fragments are going for ~650 euros or 925 dollars per gram. I hope
all that can afford to move now and purchase the ones available will enjoy them
for years to come.

2009-07-25 Thread Matthias Bärmann

Hello Richard,

how nice to have the opinion to express sincere respect in regard to your
discovery. Station 6, or Almahata Sitta, is not only an incredibly fresh
and rare Ureilite, it is simply a historical meteorite - we all know the
reason: its precisely predicted entry in our atmoshere and landing in
Northern Sudan.

I only don't know whether these offered stones are result of your and the
students research - or did Siegfried Haberer his own expedition?

My respect again,

best regards,

Matthias B.

Re: [meteorite-list] AD - material from the 2008TC3 Asteroid, availability of the meteorite Almahata Sitta Ureilite-an

2009-07-25 Thread Richard Kowalski

Hello Matthias,

thank you for your kind words.

I just want to be clear here; I discovered 2008 TC3, but I had nothing to do
with finding or collecting the meteorites now called Almahata Sitta.

As far as I know, very few of the original meteorites collected by Jenniskens,
Muawia Shaddad and the students of the University of Khartoum have been
released to researchers in any quantity. Since they were collected during
expeditions paid for in large part by NASA, I doubt that any of those fragments
and individuals will be released to the collector market.

I collect meteorites only as a personal hobby and while I hope one day to add a
piece of Station 6 to my collection, this offering is a bit beyond my current
meteorite collecting budget.

Cheers

Thanks, Richard, for making this clear. Well, without your keeping eyes wide
open ... In any case, in my opinion you necessarily should own a piece of
this meteorite.

My very best,
