Re: [meteorite-list] Munich Show----book

2014-12-25 Thread Anne Black via Meteorite-list

Merry Christmas everybody!

Now for the bad news: going strictly in the order your emails came in
my in-box, I can say that the Munich Book sold out late last night.
Sorry.
However I know that the Munich Show does send a representative to the
Tucson show, so I will ask if that person could bring a few books with
him.

More later I hope. And Thank you everybody for the enthusiastic
response.

Hello Fred,

thank you very much for your enthusiastic report about our Munich Show
book.

Since I have written seven articles (about 50 pages) and have edited
the wohle
meteorite part of this book, I'd like to make some additions,
especially four

our
collector friends in the US.

The 2014 Munich Show book METEORITES will be available at the Tucson
Show 2015 at several booths.
For those who don't want so long, maybe a collective order from the
Munich Show
web site https://munichshow.com/en/shop/the-show-catalogues/ is a good
clue.
The shipping costs for SINGLE book orders are very hight - but if more
than ten

copies are ordered, the shipping is totally free of charge (worldwide)!

Enjoy reading!

Best regards

Thank you Martin for the recommendation.
And thank you for all of you who asked for a book. We have the minimum
10 already.

Now for the cost as some of you have asked.
If you were to order just one it would cost you 28 euros plus 36 euros
for shipping, so 64 euros, or $80 to $85 depending on the exchange rate.
So I would like to ask you all for $45 per book plus whatever the
postage will be from me to you.

Is that acceptable?
Do let me know as soon as possible. Thanks you.

I have to concur with Martin that this publication is top notch, from the
content of the well written articles to the photographs, to the printing, paper
and binding (I was in the printing industry in another lifetime). It is highly
recommended and well worth the price to find a home in your meteorite library.
Its also a bit less expensive than traveling to Munich for the actual show, but
Im not scratching that off my bucket list.

Thanks you.

Hello Fred,

thank you very much for your enthusiastic report about our Munich

Show book.

Since I have written seven articles (about 50 pages) and have edited

the wohle

meteorite part of this book, I'd like to make some additions,

especially
four

our
collector friends in the US.

The 2014 Munich Show book METEORITES will be available at the Tucson
Show 2015 at several booths.
For those who don't want so long, maybe a collective order from the

Munich
Show

web site https://munichshow.com/en/shop/the-show-catalogues/ is a

good clue.

The shipping costs for SINGLE book orders are very hight - but if

more than
ten

copies are ordered, the shipping is totally free of charge

Enjoy reading!

Hello again,

A List Member pointed out to me that the cost of the book is 28 euros,
and that translates to $35, and then asked why I was asking for $45 for
that book.

Yes, 28 euros does translate to $35, however we all know that Paypal
will not translate it quite to that, they will add a fee, and then most
of you will be paying by Paypal, another fee, and I need to get a lot
of padded envelopes so those books do not get damage in the mail. And
that is not counting my time packing all that and all the trips to the
Post Office.

So I don't mind being helpful, and I do want a copy for myself, but
really I would rather not lose any money on that deal. If any of you
have a problem with this please do let me know as quickly as possible.

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing, Marcin. I wonder how many of our American friends could
easily identify most (or all) of the guys in the group photo at the top of the
line of pics. Some well-known people, collectors/dealers/scientists, from
Europe here concentrated right on the spot.

There will be hardly anyone out there on this list who really does not know who
that guy from the U.S. is, in about the middle of the top row? Do I see any
fingers up..?? :-)

Nice, representative pics! I especially like the closeups of the Kraehenberg
meteorite from Germany, a famous historical and very nicely oriented stone,
with just a few grams from likely only very few earlier cuts in private
collections.

OK, Oktober is a gone as all the months before.

Would someone be so kind to post some Munich pictures or stories or ...
to remember it nicely?

Prost!

Hello!
I have just finished to set-up two maps for the Munich Show.
You can find them here:

http://web.tiscali.it/francesco.moser/A5.jpg

http://web.tiscali.it/francesco.moser/A6.jpg

I went to this web-site and I'm looked for meteorite in each one of

the

4
halls.

http://mineralientage.de/en/the-munich-show/public-days/exhibitordirectory/

Other years there were meteorite dealers in all 4 halls, in 2011 the
search
engine finds matches only in Hall-A5
and Hall-A6, so I post to you just the maps of these two halls!

I hope this will be useful!

Francesco!

Re: [meteorite-list] Munich Show 2010 - Photos

2010-11-02 Thread Gary Fujihara
Aloha Hanno,

Many thanks for publishing your fine photographs of the Munich Show. For me,
and perhaps many others as well on this metlist, seeing the meteorites on
display are very cool, but better yet are the opportunity to see many friends
with whom I have only a written correspondence. Its certainly nice to be able
to connect a face with a name, and maybe I'll be able to attend next year to
meet them all in person.

In the meantime, there are 92 days before the Tucson Gem Mineral show beings.
 Let the countdown commence.

Hi Martin:

Is there some going to the Munich show who could do a short write-up for
Meteorite? Does not have to be long and the more pictures (captioned), the
better.

Thanks

And of course also this year the fair can't be without the traditional,

Same procedure: Friday evening, October 31, from 8p.m. on.

 Address is in nearby Feldkirchen.

Here you find a map, how to get from the fair ground there.
Starting from the main entrance/exit East, where the show halls for the
 mineral fair are located.

It seems that the menu is different now, so maybe we're lucky and the
chef has changed too... Anyway, the beer is good, after all those years the
meteorite people know, where it is, and most seem to like it, right?

Of course it would be nice, if you'd let me know, if you plan to take
part in, cause in past there were always to few places in the beginning.

And here are the general show information:

For any questions, feel free to contact me.

Chladni's Heirs you'll find in the middle hall A5, booth A5.633
and I'm glad to announce, that Stefan already will take be back again. You
have to purchase a lot from him, that was the recommendation of the
 doctors.

Regarding the meeting point of the meteorite aficionados on the show,
Friday, Saturday, Sunday - I heard, that Erich won't have a table this
year. (I hope nothing serious, cause as long I'm able to think, he was
selling at the Munich Show), so we have to find a new point.

Looking forward to see you all soon - who will be in Munich?

 Hello
Munich was very interesting this year.
Two new spectacular falls in one place. Thats what I like.

Mali fall was well represented on many tables from tiny
complete specimens to large regmaglypted stones.
Morocans show each fall on different box, so there was no
problem with mixing both falls together. Both falls have
similar crust but very different interior. Ofcourse
everything depends of the size of specimens and how fresh
 they are etc.

Carancas specimens was incredible. It really SMELL very
strange. Its fragile like dust, so every touch produces
new tiny fragments. I belive its becouse of high shock
while meteor hit ground. Another surprize was that I have
found 90% complete, crusted specimen. I belived its
impossible as this meteorite was sooo large. Will show it
 soon.

 OK, enjoy my photos http://www.PolandMET.com

Hallo friends,

I have some photos from the Munich Show last weekend available on my

Unfortunatly I could only be for 2 days in Munich thursday and friday
because I had
to be with my material also here, at a local mineral show close to my home
town.

Anyways, we had lots of fun an it was nice to see all the dealers and
collectors and friends.

Yippie, we'll have a new crazy lunar, several astonishing not yet published
exotics, thin sections we have only 2 dozens from David New...some good old
Americans among them, not available anymore.
As it's an European show, most probably these won't sell, ao there is hope!

See you today, tomorrow, tomorrow evening at Fliegerbraeu and on weekend!

Hi Martin and List,

To those who are at the Munich show:

KarlsVassiliev had the first Hungarian meteorite I saw offered since
many, many years.

Martin pointed to our Hungarian meteorite but that is not the only new
thing
we offer this time. Six new irons from Australia are available!
I guess it is difficult to find them on out overloaded stand but don't be
shy to ask! ;-)
Our stand is: A5.546

I had to leave Munich last night because of my family problems but will be
back tomorrow
around 12:00

Too bad I'm missing the today's party again this year... :-(

All the best,

and many meteorite people, but no Bernd :-(

Today was still the setting up of the tables and stalls, so that I can judge
the complete pomp not before tomorrow.
Evident, as also last year, the NWA-flood dries out.
Meanwhile Dean seems to have more stones than all Moroccains together :-)
(there were sitting in 3 wellknown meteorite freaks indeed making faces like
in a candy shop).

Saw I nice fullslice of Page City at Andi Gren,
the KarlsVassiliev had the first Hungarian meteorite I saw offered since
many, many years.
Believe it or not, the Egers still haven't sold the phantastic Seymchan
slice with the angular wedgeshaped olivine inclusion, which was also
pictured in the Metorite Magazine.
Abdullah had a perfect flat small iron, it was so oriented that the
temptation was large to let it dance over the surface of the fair lake...
A new, still unbknown, Russian ordinary chondrite find I remember.
A new Dhofar-Ureilite...
and as always to much beer around for me.

Re: [meteorite-list] Munich

2005-10-25 Thread Martin Altmann
Hi Francesco, list,

thanks for the work.

Some remarks:
During the last years many mineral dealers found out, that meteorites are an
attraction, hence they give it in their assortment in the exhibitors' list,
although many of them have perhaps only a handfull of lousy indochinites or
a dozen Canyon Diablo micros.

On the other hand, there are much more specialists, who aren't listed among
the exhibitors.
Main reason is, that the table prices are horrendous, something around 3000$
minimum, so that they share stalls with other dealers or take some meters as
sublessees.

For instance you won't find listed Mike Farmer, Gregor Pacer, Andi Gren,
Andreev, Pellerin (- Allan Lang, E.T. et.al. will come too, dunno whether as
visitors only) and so on.

If you plan to spend only a few hours on the fair, then concentrate on the
second and third hall, in all the years before almost no meteorites (or good
deals) weren't found in the first one.

This year the organisators missed to set plans of each hall online (don't
know whether the numeration of the stalls will be the same as last year). A
little hint: on the information desks at the front ends of each hall sheets
with plans for take away were to be found (please be fair and take only one
each, they were gone quickly) as well as a booklet with the exhinbitor's
list for free.
Both very helpful to make your notes and to avoid superfluent running
around.

S you
Martin

Andreev, Pellerin (- Allan Lang, E.T. et.al. will come too, dunno whether
as

visitors only) and so on.

If you plan to spend only a few hours on the fair, then concentrate on the
second and third hall, in all the years before almost no meteorites (or
good

deals) weren't found in the first one.

This year the organisators missed to set plans of each hall online (don't
know whether the numeration of the stalls will be the same as last year).
A
little hint: on the information desks at the front ends of each hall
sheets
with plans for take away were to be found (please be fair and take only
one

each, they were gone quickly) as well as a booklet with the exhinbitor's
list for free.
Both very helpful to make your notes and to avoid superfluent running
around.

S you
Martin

Yep Francesco,
would be great, if you could do so.
(Perhaps also to check out this year, who of those claiming to have
meteorites too in their assortments, really do have some).

I fear this year it's to late as many are already on the way to the show.
But next year.
An addition I have to make. Mike Farmer will be not before Saturday on the
show and Serge Afanasjev (cometshop) can't come because of an unexpected
reason. Carsten Capot Rey Giessler, whom several were eager to get to know,
neither.

Buckleboo! (there it is again...)

 Martin and List;
for the next year all the meteorite dealers here in list can send a post
 with the:
 -Halle Number;
 -Stand Number;
 -Table Sharing;
 -Main meteorite on sale.
Someone (like me) can collect all the post and write a doc file with the
 real meteorites exhibitors list.
So we can know easly where we can found somebody.

Is to late for do this work this year???
Can someone post just the table sharing??
I can update the list on my site.

  Hi Francesco, list,

  thanks for the work.

  Some remarks:
During the last years many mineral dealers found out, that meteorites
are
  an
attraction, hence they give it in their assortment in the exhibitors'
  list,
although many of them have perhaps only a handfull of lousy indochinites
  or
  a dozen Canyon Diablo micros.

On the other hand, there are much more specialists, who aren't listed
  among
  the exhibitors.
Main reason is, that the table prices are horrendous, something around
  3000$
minimum, so that they share stalls with other dealers or take some
meters
  as
  sublessees.

For instance you won't find listed Mike Farmer, Gregor Pacer, Andi Gren,

OT Re: [meteorite-list] : Munich show - hotels

2005-09-26 Thread Martin Altmann
Hi Marcy, list

this year the day before the Mineralientage the Systems is ending, a
larger IT-fair and parallely to the mineral show there will be a cosmetics
fair, so better book as early as possible.

There are two possibilities for accomodation:
The village Feldkirchen ,closely situated to the fair ground
(accessible by bus), where also the Friday evening beer place is,
or in the city center around the Central Station, Karlsplatz, Marienplatz,
where many cheap hotels and pensions are to be found for those, who will be
fed up with the old ugly stones to do some sight seeing and shopping, the
tube is going from there directly to the fair (and on Friday evening a
suburban train back from Feldkirchen).

In general everything around 50Euro or below for a room (note that some
charge per person, some by room) with breakfast is cheap for Munich.

Let's see.
Marcinhho, in the vicinity of your beloved IBIS, there is a Holiday Inn,
last year they had some specials at the fair's season below 50Euro. Hmm, but
this year not (twin room 59,50 per person, triple 40 per nose).

Hyenas they are in that hicksville, living only from the fairs - all other
hotels I checked in Feldkirchen 80-120Euro per room.

So back to town:

Last year I heard some were staying at the hotel Senefelder:
http://www.hotel-senefelder.de/index.html

Others at he Creatif Hotel Elephant (I guess each elephant would be more
creative in finding a better name):
http://www.munich-hotels.com/

A voilá, here I found last time the cheapest accomodations in the very city
center:
http://www.munich-info.de/hotels/lists/zentrum_de.html

Sorry it's only in German, search for your own (I'm very buzy), if you have
any problems, feel free to contact me.
But I'm at home only tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and then gone for 3 weeks -
I'm sure, that somebody else, who is German-speaking from the list will
assist you too (Svend? Ingo? Hulk starrockers? Hanno? Christian? Alex?)

Click on Hotels (= hotels) and Pensionen (pensions).

About the quality of the individual places, I don't know nothing, as I'm not
wealthy enough to lodge in fancy places of my hometown.
Last year I found a pension in last minute, which hadn't even one star, but
was o.k. - clean, room with bathtoilet, tv, breakfast buffet - 50Euro. (Ask
Razvan, I don't want to tell it here, as he wants to stay there again, but
hasn't reserved his room yet).

And again, for those, who are coming by plane, don't take a cab to the city
center, it's a huge rip-off and will cost more than 50Euro.
Take the suburbian (8 stripes from the blue ticket with stripes ~ 8Euro).

Much success!
Martin

Yes, it was a nice munich getogether. The noon fiday
getogether at erich's table was a good meeting spot
and well over a dozen people showed up. There were
lots of people who dont go to Tucson including people
that I had only known through email so it was a great
trip. I believe somebody said 50 people showed up to
the restaurant and munich was a nice event this year.
On the way back the security people in amsterdam
airport wouldent let me carry my meteorites in my hand
luggage and I had to check it but they were OK in
munich.
A good time was had by all and hopefully we well see
more people next year or maybe in ensisheim if I can
finally manange to go next year.

 Hi,

Serguey just put the maps online - and even as jpg, so that those who
can't
open pdfs can watch it - THANKS!
So he deserves also some free beer!

 http://sv-meteorites.jodoshared.com/plan1.jpg

 and
 http://sv-meteorites.jodoshared.com/plan2.jpg

As all what I try to mark dissapeared, when I changed it to pdf,
 some orientation:

Plan1: The fair areal is the large rounded, orange blob to the right,
 rimmed by the streets named:
 Paul-Henri-Spaak-Str. / De-Gasperi-Bogen / Willi-Brandt-Allee.
Most parking places are to the Easst - there inside De-Gasperi-Bogen
and to the North, below Paul-Henri-Spaak.
So just exist and go East (right) - there is no other road.

The bus terminal and the subway station is there were the vertical road,
which divides the areal is meeting De-Gasperi-Bogen.

Plan2: The bus stop will be there on Mnchner Strasse, somewhere
between
Eschenstrasse to the right and the yellow road.
Or you may go a station further, it's on top at the brown train symbol
(there stops the suburbian, if you will come from town) and walk down
 Sonnenstrasse - it's equidistant.

Now, you can't miss it anymore!

2004-09-29 Thread ROCKS ON FIRE
Hello, Folks,
unfortunately Heike and I are unable to attend this great show
personnally again. :'(
Our stall for ROCKS ON FIRE will be displaying only OPAL again, as it is
really too much trouble for a third person to haggle with our custom's
officers in regard of meteorite export permits etc.
So, for our friends at the Munich Show, if you find us in the catalogue
and want to see our display of meteorites, our sincere appologies, there
are none this year. And for Tanja, the young lady representing us at our
stall, knows a lot about opals, she really does not know much about
meteorites. But she will be very happy to talk to you. Perhaps you are
also looking for an affordable opal? ;-)

But for next year we'll be back and Heike and I are so much looking
forward to seeing you all over there.
Yes, the old homeland is not just next door to Australia.

All of you, enjoy this great show, catch a bargain, and pity all those
who are unable to attend!

I don't really fit Martin's description, except for the love of cats, but I
will be in Munich this year, for the first time. Landing Wednesday morning, and
flying off Saturday afternoon to go help my father celebrate his 90th
birthday.
I am planning on being at the Show all day Thursday (if possible) and Friday.

Bernhard: take a look at my site, if there is something there that interest
you, just let me know and I will bring it with me. Of course, this applies to
everybody else.

See you all soon.

Re: [meteorite-list] Munich show - being more specific

2004-09-29 Thread Martin Altmann
Oh that's really a pity!

I missed you last year on the show
and freely spoken to the list, I remember the show 2 years ago and if I then
had to award a prize for the best colletcors' prices, no doubt the Kammels
would be the winner!

More and more the specialized meteorite dealers are bringing their internet
prices with them to the show, less and less small dealers with bargain
prices are to be found as the fees for the stalls are horribly high and the
business was mere during the last 3 years
and finally the deserfication pullulates, so that it's more and more
difficult for the conservative collectors, who like names rather than
numbers to catch their bargains.

Two years ago I remmeber almost nobody noticed the assortment of the
Kammels, but on the opposite side of the aisle there was a guy selling
etched shiny Nantan chips for 3Euro/g (!!!) with good success,
whilst on the Kammel table there were waiting all the fine names from down
under - Hamilton, Broken Hill, non shale Dalgarangas, a marvellous
Millbillillie at so low prices, that, if I had more cash, I would have
bought all what they had!

So promise to come again next year!!
Martin

All of you, enjoy this great show, catch a bargain, and pity all those
 who are unable to attend!

and a brand new booklet on this unique event.

We look forward to meeting you there.

Hello Bernhard,

it's easy to reckognise the meteorite collectors at that show, if you
haven't met in person yet.
The average meteorite collector is between 30 and 55 years old, male, has a
tendency to be corpulent and to loose his hair, loves cats and most
important, he bends over ugly stones, where nobody else on the fair would
stop.

 Hi there,

thanks to all who told me they will be at the Munich Mineral Show this
 year.

The reason why I was asking is twofold: first of all, I am looking
forward to see fellow collectors. I haven't been in the public so far
:-), and this will be the first time to see those I am writing to.

The second reason is that I will use the opportunity to buy some
material there. It's my first fair, so I don't really know what to
expect. So I thought that it would be clever to ask those selling there
what they will offer, and maybe get some deals done before I come to
Munich, so I can pay and pick up the meteorites there.

Now, apart from getting this or that beauty that comes to my eyes in
Munich, I have a list of items I will be looking for. I want to add some
lower numbered NWAs to my collection, whether they are just ordinary
chondrites or something more exotic. I am looking for a piece of
Mauerkirchen, sized in a way that I can afford it. I want to get a
larger slice of an ordinary chondrite (no prob if it is unclassified) in
 the range of 500-1500g.

I am NOT really looking for new falls or lunar or martian material.
Price DOES matter, of course :-).

If you feel you have something I am looking for - or even something I am
NOT looking for but could be interested in, feel free to contact me. I
am no millionaire, so proposing me a $5000 part slice of something will
just waste your time *g*, but I do not expect you to offer me a 25g CK5
 for $75 either :-)

 Bernhard

Hi everyone, just a quick note before I head down to work here at the
Munich mineral show. It is a huge show, 3 buildings, all with several
hundres dealers. Nice museum exhibits including the Neuschwanstien
meteorite. There are of course, alot of meteorites here, but virtually
NOTHING from the Moroccan dealers! Each one has a small flat or two of
chondrites almost all are the several thousand kilo NWA under so many names.
Some nice historical meteorites, ALL with very high prices. Nothing in any
sort of bulk except the maligned Shirokovsky, which the Russian owner is
still selling with the help of a very nice display and printed information
that looks like it was made in hollywood. That scam is with us to stay!

 More later.

Yes Martin, I know them all from Morocco, and I have
looked at all their meteorites, they want me to
identify what they have, other than a couple of
Eucrites and Howardites that are the same as already
on the market, I have seen nothing very interesting.

 Hello list,

I put some pictures of the Munich Show 2002 (Mineralientage 2002) on
 Yahoo Photos ( http://photos.yahoo.com/mauroianeselli ).
You can see the new Neuschwanstein fall (the original and a copy made by
Dieter and Gabriele Heinlein - Dieter, I hope to see you next year!),
meteorites from BrunoCarine, the new Tabelbala (HOW) from Achmed Pani,
some pieces of lunar martian, how and acap (Mo's Meteorites).
I met Mike Farmer and Jim Strope at the stand of Peter Pittman and
Sergei Afanasiev. Siegfried Haberer had some nice pieces, I saw the
gorgeus meteorite that you can see in the front page of the last issue
of METEORITE and a beautiful (some kilos) carbonaceus chondrite.
Some nice pieces at the stands of Christian Stehlin (Abraxas), Labennes,
Rocks on Fire (Norbert Heike Kammel) and Eric Haiderer.
Nice show, I hope to see more dealers next time and I hope that my
friend Matteo Chinellato will come at the 2003 show!
 Enjoy!

 Mauro
