Re: [meteorite-list] New Subject - Nigeria
Hi All, Since the last survey of the list resulted in 26% of the members responding that they considered themselves meteorite dealers, I post this to the entire list: I have received six or eight inquiries from NIGERIA - all different individuals, asking weird questions about buying my products - such as: Do I ship to Nigeria? Will I take a direct bank wire, etc. The first one I tried to accommodate, but then received additional inquiries from others in Nigeria. After that, I strongly suspected I was receiving some sort of spam hustle (like the never ending posts, often in all CAPS, about some widow from some obscure country who's dead husband left her 26.8 million dollars and if I would just let her wire it to my bank account she would happily give me 5% or the like). As a result, I am no longer responding to any inquiries from Nigeria. In any event, I wonder if others on this list who have commercial web sites have been getting multiple enigmatic posts from Nigeria? Best wishes, Michael -- You and I do not see things as they are. We see things as we are. -Herb Cohen -- If a million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing. __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] New Subject - Nigeria
Hi Michael List I have received several of these myself. None of them mention the exact product that I sell or what they want to buy. They only mention that they are interested in the merchandise I sell. Also all ask if I take credit cards and if I can ship FedEx or DHL. I would guess this is so they have their merchandise before you figure out that the cc is stolen. I stay as far away as I can from these scamsters and recommend that everyone else do so as well. Michael, Man, you need to stay up on the common scams. These are people wanting to buy anything using STOLEN credit cards. First warning should be when they ask to buy your product. They don't even know what they want, just anything you can ship using stolen credit cards. Best to avoid any business with Nigeria. Hi to both Michael! Yes it is true that many spam e-mails are coming from Nigeria, to propose some wonderful looking deals, that 99.99% of the times are ways to get information about you, your bank, your account number, letter heads and so on... Some years ago, those highly suspect enquiries were sent by fax to companies that are exporting to Africa including Nigeria; I received a lot when I was an export salesman in a company making packaging machines, as I was in charge of the sales in Africa. On their request, I reported some to the French Embassy in Lagos, providing tel and fax numbers I had from the messages received, and they were always leading to empty offices for rent, where those thieves were sitting for few hours or days, just to try and catch some fish. So the best advise I have about those e-mails is to try and tune your outlook express or whatever in order to refuse those messages, and to delete straight away the ones passing through. Re: [meteorite-list] New Subject - Nigeria
Here is another that I just received a minute ago (sorry, the last one from me): -Walter Dear sir/madam, I must solicit your confidence in this transaction this is by virtue of its nature as being utterly confidential and top secret. Though a transaction of this magnitude will make any one apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you that all will be well at the end of the day. We have decided to contact you due to the urgency of this transaction. But let me first introduce myself. I am Mr Patrick Harba, Manager of BillsExchange at the Foreign Remittance Department of Zenith Bank of Nigeria,I came to know of you in my search for a reliable and reputable person to help handle this confidential transaction, which involves the transfer of a huge sum of money to a foreign account. Detail: The President/Ceo of Mark Kogan Farm and Engineering Drilling company Nig. Ltd, Mr. Mark Kogan (CANADA) made a fixed deposit of USD14,000,000.00 (Fourteen Million United States Dollar) deposit with the Zenith Bank of Nigeria PLC five years ago. This deal was to mature in April 2002. But Mr. Ramirez Sanchez and his only son whom he used as next of kin died in kenya air crash in the year 2000.Since we got information about his death,we have been expected his next of kin/relations to come over and claim his money because our bank cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to Mr Ramirez Sanchez the late depositor as indicated in our banking guidelines. Unfortunately none of his relation has come for claim. It is therefore upon this discovery that i now decided to make business with you and release the money to you as the next of kin/relation to Mr Ramirez Sanchez for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for the money and i dont want this money to go back into Federal Government account as unclaimed fund. The banking law and guidelines here stipulates that if such money remains unclaimed, the money will be transfered into the banking treasury as unclaimed fund. The request for a foreigner as the next of kin/relation in this business is occasioned by the fact that Mr Ramirez SANCHEZ was a foriegner and a Nigeria cannot stand as a next of kin/relation to the late depositor who is a foreigner. Therefore i request you to provide a reliable Bank account into which the Zenith Bank of Nigeria Correspondent bank abroad will pay the funds into. Documents and proves to back you up in the receipt of the funds into your account shall be carefully worked out. We have also decided that for your assistance you will be entitled to 30% of the funds as your commission. 10% shall be set aside for reimbursement to both parties for any incidental expenses that may be incurred in the transaction. If this proposal is acceptable to you, contact me immediately through Email. Please furnish me with your most confidential telephone and fax numbers, including your full names and address, complete Bank information so that they can be used for all your official communications. Thank you for your anticipated co-operation and God Bless.
