  Biggest concerns are battery life and fan noise.

 I have a T440s. Battery life and fan noise are excellent
 (using Linux, though).

 A major issue with this device is: Its highly painful to
 open the case for a hard disk replacement or to extend
 RAM. You have to be extremely careful to not break a
 latch. According to its Hardware Maintenance Manual
Hi.
I also have an T440s with OpenBSD 5.7 installed.
Fan noise is excellent. I didn't tested battery much, but it's enough for my
needs.
Video works, wlan (with patch)/lan works, audio works, docking station works,
display
port works. Last time I've checked suspend didn't work.
It won't wake up. There are also some issues with
USB3.0. See http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-miscm=142873134010452w=2. It's some
race issue. OpenBSD is installed on 2nd M.2 SSD disk, and it works fine.

Asus M4A78LT-M or M4A88T-V EVO/USB3?

2011-03-18 Thread Rafal Brodewicz
Hello misc.

Has anyone run successfully OpenBSD on Asus M4A78LT-M motherboard?
I found bug 6454 related with this motherboard, but it has open
state.

Maybe Asus M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 would be better choice?

Thanks for reply.

Try this patch.
I have same problem with my HP 6510b. It has broken acpi.
With this patch my fan work as it should be, but be aware that I didn't

RS232 communication using hardware registers

2008-10-08 Thread Rafal Brodewicz
Hello.

I need to write program (in C) for my classes to communicate two PC's through
RS232C interface
using hardware registers.

I'm mostly interested how to get to these registers.
Can someone guide my, or give some point from which should I start?
Maybe some relevant book?
By the way, is it easy to accomplish this with OpenBSD OS?

Thanks for any help.

 Same cd blanks with no problem on amd64 laptop. Don't know if it's cd drive or
 platform issue.

I've investigated cdio.c and mmc.c files and here's what I've spotted.
Below are values from mmc.c's while loop in
get_media_capabilities(int *cap) function;

mmc.c: feature == 0 *cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 1 *cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 2 *cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 3 *cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 1d*cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 21*cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 23*cap == 0
mmc.c: feature == 2d*cap == 1
mmc.c: feature == 2e*cap == 1
mmc.c: feature == 100   *cap == 1
mmc.c: feature == 104   *cap == 1
mmc.c: feature == 105   *cap == 1

Above function sets *cap to 1.
MEDIACAP_CDRW_WRITE has 0x02 value, so
if ((mediacap MEDIACAP_CDRW_WRITE) == 0) test in cdio.c file is true.

When I comment out this test my cd-drive blanks with no problem, so I think
that its features are discovered wrongly.

Regards.

I've tested same hardware (on which it doesn't blank) with 4.3-GENERIC

Same cd blanks with no problem on amd64 laptop. Don't know if it's cd drive or

Hi.
I have problem with pf on -current. It's enabled, but it doesn't work.
It's behaving like there was an empty pf.conf.

Thanks for any help.

Laptop display refresh rate

Hello.

Is there any tool to find out what V,H refresh rates should I set in
xorg.conf for my laptop display? It's HP Copmaq 6510b with 1280x800

Are they still needed btw?

Same problem when connected through RGB cable.

fH: 36.8kHz

There's no problem with Radeon 9200 Pro and the same xorg.conf as in
previous post.

4.2 xenocara + Radeon 9600 Pro problem

2007-11-27 Thread Rafal Brodewicz
Hello.
Since 4.2 i have strange problem with my Ati Radeon 9600 Pro, and flat
LCD display, Eizo FlexScan L568, connected through DVI.
When I boot computer, run startx my monitor display frequency error:

Digital
fD: 108.0 Mhz
fH: 65.2 kHz (red color and blinking)
fV: 61.2 HZ

After about 40 seconds X server starts, or at least I can see it on display.
When I close X server, and start it again, it starts with no problem.
But when I boot computer again, the problem shows up again.

There was no such thing in 4.1.
Refreshing rates are from monitor's manual 31-64 and 59-61 accordingly.

Thanks for any solutions?

Refreshing rates are from monitor's manual 31-64 and 59-61 accordingly.

dmesg, xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log http://brodewicz.pl/OpenBSD

Thanks for any solutions.

Re: 4.2 Trouble with HP Notebook

2007-11-02 Thread Rafal Brodewicz

Frans Haarman pisze:

The model is HP Compaq 6710b

And indeed, enableing acpi crashes things!

I have 6510b model and enabling acpi crashes system. The main problem in
disabled acpi is that cpu fan doesn't respond to cpu temperature changes
so it's very easy to overheat cpu.
dmesg is in my previous post HP notebook fan issue. Probably acpi
related thing.

Try install amd64 version which works fine. i386 stops at MTRR for me too.

Regards.
