I've read the FAQ again and searched the archives and suspect the answer is No., but is there a way I'm missing to switch the console to com0 and still get output to the screen? If I understand correctly, your new setup does not seem to need console redirection anymore. You need to edit /etc/ttys and boot.conf accordingly. -- Antoine

Thing is, I *know* that the serial console can get me out of a pickle because it's already saved me making a physical trip to the server. And I don't know that this new linux-y KVM over IP won't lock up at the absolute worst time. Redirecting the console won't let me see the BIOS and MegaRAID control, but I can use the KVM for that and if that is locked up or worse *and* the server won't boot I'm probably going to make the trip regardless. If I can't have both, I'm going to leave the console redirected to com0. Geezerhood is making me suspicious, paranoid and sometimes cranky, and yes I am wearing a belt with suspenders, too. Jeff

Well, you can only have one output in this case, and it's either the console or the kvm, not both (maybe I'm missing something and others can comment). Cheers! -- Antoine

Having my console and kvm over ip, too
Hi all, I just got a KVM over IP for use to let the folks at Command Prompt act as emergency remote database administrators. http://www.startech.com/item/SV441HDIE-4-Port-Enhanced-Digital-KVM-Switch-Over-IP.aspx The KVM over IP works great (even without X) but I've been spoiled by my serial consoles.
